  • I am Argentinian and a fan of Garyvee (and by extension a fan of the Jets), and my wife is American, and a die hard Steelers fan. So I’m in trouble. I predict Steelers 24 – Jets 21.

Yes, I’ve had many, many torronteses. One of the most spectactular was Susana Balbo’s “Crios” torrontes, which is not light at all, it’s thick, delicious, almost honey-esque. Another one that I think stands out from the crowd is the Domingo Molina, which is lighter, more traditional, and with loads and loads of gardenias and salty sea water on the nose.

  • Never had Torrontes.

Steelers over Jets 14-10. Last game you had the kickoff return for TD and no Polamalu. Won’t get it done this time. Steelers season ticket holder here! Your Jets season comes to and end Sunday at 9:30!

  • Torrontes does that frequently, good nose but nothing behind it, so you have to search out the ones that actually deliver on the palate too.

I also have been trying the South American Malbecs and Cabs. The Malbecs I have tried are a bit to fruit forward but with nice tannins. Now the Cabs I have had are very nice, more from Catena after GV had them on the show. Their 2006 was amazing and the 2007, 08 seem to be a little disjointed thou still a nice bottle of wine.

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets 24-21. As for Torrontes I just had great one last week with some oysters it was the Crios by Susana Balbo. Great wine at an amazing price point here in Ontario (which is often hard to say together). Gary love the show and big respect from all your followers here in Kingston Ontario

    😉

  • I’m a massive Jets fan from the UK and have supported them all my life. The win over the Pats blasted straight into my top five days on earth! I feel it in my water that this is our year so I’m definitely going for a win over the Steelers. 16-10 – Polumalu is a great player and now he’s back for them it will be tough, but we’ve got Revis and he’s the best player in the league in my humble opinion.

Great game Sunday but next Sunday is dependent on Troy Polumalu. If he is healthy, the Steelers will be hard to beat. 21-14 Steelers.
Yes I’ve had Torrontes. One of my favorites is Susan Balbo Crios Torrontes and a good buy as well.

  • Jay

I have not had torrontes yet. Actually I’ve just recently started developing a wine pallet and look forward to learning more about various wines.

Torrontes – Yes. Buy Susana Balbo’s Crios every year and really really like it.
    Steelers 27; Jets 25

Gary, I´m an argentinean sommelier. It´s good to see you tasting our iconic white grape variety.
An important thing to say is that Torrontés may be consumed during the year of its vintage or maybe in the next. So, today the best consumption vintages for Torrontes are 2010 and 2009. When you try an unaoked Torrontes (95% of the torrontes are unoaked) from older vintages like 2008 or 2007, it has probably lost its aromatic intensity and some bitter flavours could appear.
It´s just an explanation to justify, maybe, the bad performance of Altivo Torrontes in this episode.

    Cheers!

    Matias.

  • dcrob

Torrontés : yes, good QPR. But i need to get more familiar with the producers.

I think the Jets could do it..

  • good info

  • a super bowl , that must count for something

  • Omnipresent 🙂

  • tvi, tvi,tvi as we say in Sweden when a black cat cross the road in front of us 🙂

Believe me–all of us Pats fans up here in New England couldn’t stop yelling OMG at the TV! Oh well, congratulations–Jets played the better game.

Yes, I’ve tried Torrontes because of another show you did on that variety–I bought the one my local store had (can’t recall which one) and I loved it!

Also just had my local store order the Sainte Cosme Cotes-du-Rhone that you liked the other day. I’m surprised, but I’m not loving it. Very hollow to me. Maybe it would be better on a hot sunny day. Guess I’ll have to wait awhile for that since hell just froze over on Sunday in Foxboro:)

    Jets 23-19
(so that you can take NY Pete and NY Joan to the Super Bowl)

and, No, I don’t believe that I’ve had a Torrontes

  • Anonymous

I was asking the same question to myself in the intro, I think its bad luck??

  • Anonymous

Actually Gary, you have me to thank for the Torrontes, as I kinda discovered it, when I took a trip to Argentina some 3 or so years ago.
OK, maybe that’s not the case, but it was my first exposure to the wine. A couple of snifs followed by one swallow, and I was hooked, and the wine has been a staple in our home since then.
We very much enjoy the Altavista, or, if pricing is important, the Mendoza Station is not too bad, and is a little different, as it has a light pepper taste to me. But, if one does not want to disappointed, the Susan Balboa Crios is a no-brainer.
QOTD #1. Sorry Gary, really don’t give a squat about American football, but wish your team well.

QOTD1: Steelers 27 Jets 17, but I’m pulling for Jets

QOTD2: Yes. Quite a few. My neighbor hosted a Torrontes tasting last year. We tried about 5 of them. My favorite was 2007 Zolo.

  • RobinC

I’m a little fuzzy on football, but I think the Jets will win, and not by a small margin but by a moderate margine like 6 or 7 points.
Yes, I have had Torrontes. I’ve liked most of them very much.

Can you come to the bay area for a wine tasting on the 30th?

  • Yes on Torrontes.

    Jets 21 – Steers 17

  • Anonymous

We’re looking good. We have about 8 or 10 now with room for 30.

Was that “is or is you ain’t” line an O Brother Where Art Thou reference? If it was I applaud you sir!

Good show, I also enjoyed the “drinking wine out of season” comment. What happened to the playoff beard? I didn?t shave during finals week once and have kept the beard ever since; that was a few years ago.

QOTD 1: I have no dog in this fight; and frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.

QOTD 2: Yes. There are no yes or no questions on this forum apparently.

  • Anonymous

I am fairly certain you broke some sort of personal comment record on this episode; keep it up! Someone has to keep everyone in check!

This was a good old school WLTV episode. Two wines, one varietal. Enjoyed it.

I am happy for you and your Jets.
    QOTD: Jets 20 Steelers 17
QOTD: Yes, plenty of Torrontes especially in Spring/Summer 2009. PA sells a couple of good value Torrontes, Trivento and Santa Ana. In Spring/Summer 2010 I was drinking Italian whites, chenin blanc, and I couldn’t avoid New Zealand Sauv Blanc.

I care little about Pro football when the cowboys and the chiefs aren’t in the mix… but i was very happy to see the Jets win because i knew that G.V. would be ecstatic
