Don’t really know that much about Barbera d’Alba, so thanks for the info.
I think we might have one at work that I’ve been meaning to try for while, so perhaps I’ll slip it into the Tasting next week.

Episodes…anywhere between 75-150 +. I haven’t been paying attention to how many, just enjoying the content.

Up to about 900 eps and trying to get up to speed before ep # 1,000. As a result, I’m a big wine fan, and a big Gary V. fan, a huge Sasha fan, and finally after much resistance, a Jets fan. Thank you Gary.

    qotd: 472!

  • Thanks Mott. But I haven’t been able to get a show onto my iPod since 962 (Cava). They seem to download fine into iTunes but no matter what I do, they won’t synch with my iPod.

Go to Binny’s, that is where I get mine. I know it’s a hike, but when your in the area.

QOTD – only started last year after finding a comment in the forum at http://www.winepress.us mentioning a wine blogger talking about ‘grape bubblegum’ and I thought what’s that about? So I figure only 200+ episodes to date.

As an aside, I want to give a shout out to those winelibrary tv geeks out there who are also winemakers – and I mean serious amateur winemakers.
It’s all fine to swirl, sniff, sip – but it’s another to put down $4/lb for Rutherford, White Hall Lane Napa Cab from Peter Brehm (that’s about $13/bottle for the fruit) – and be able to _know_ a wine from grape to must to barrel to bottle to really find out how geeky it can get. Now if only I could get my hands on some decent Barbera grapes …..

Love the d’Alba – especially w/a heavy & spicey ragu sauce.

    QOTD: 900+.

Thanks for bringing attention to the beauty and structure of Barbera d’Alba. It should be an essential buy for many Italian wine lovers, but it surprisingly gets dwarfed by the big ticket wines from Tuscany and nebbiolo-based Piedmont wines!

    Rough guess, I’d say 400+

  • Over 750

A Danish girl after my own heart! Pinot Noir and Barbera, I think I’m in love! 😉

  • QOTD: I started watching in Winter (January) of 2008. I was a rabid WLTV fan in 2008, going back and watching at least 200 old episodes. (he had just topped 400 when I first started) I figure my watched number sits somewhere between 650 and 800. Probably closer to 800.

    Bring back Beer Library TV!

  • At least 850, began watching as a CKC way back when and am no longer in that crowd but still loving (complaints aside) everything about the lib tv.

  • Don Simpson

Gary – You were ramped up today and it was awesome!

QOTD: From the hip, I’d have to say I’d smack in the middle, right around 500. I did go back and watch some of the older shows and its amazing to see how much Gary has changed! Quite impressive.

  • After watching this episode I couldn’t help craving a nice burger with a Glass of Barbera D’Alba…

QOTD: from the hip, about 800.

    QOTD: around 600 id say

  • Really enjoying your exploration of Italy. I have been going back and watching your old Barolo and other Italian episodes.
QOTD: 200+, started watching in early 2007 but fell off for a while and then came back and now watch it every episode

Nice to see more exposure and opinion on Piedmonte region wines!

I started watching in 05 and I would guess ~500 or so episodes….

    500?

The first wine sounds great! I must admit Barbera has not been on my watch list but will give it a try. Good show your in the zone again.

QOTD: Watching since September 2008 but also hit the earlier episodes alot. Maybe 600 or more.

  • Anonymous

    Probably seen around 150 shows.

    Gotta be at least 200!

  • Ryan Richards

    I’d say 200-250.

For the record, Gary, you said d’Asti three times before correcting with one of your two time outs.
QOTD: I have watched about 309 episodes of Wine Library TV. Great question. I’m glad I knew the answer! : )

  • QOTD: I say I’ve seen about 450. I started watching in ’06. I continually come back to WLTV and take in massive quantities of WLTV and then life gets busy, I lay off for a bit, then I am a junkie again. Now’s a junkie phase 🙂

  • I love that you are doing more shows…welcome back! I think I have seen about 50 since I only started a couple of months ago. Yesterday I watched your first show because I have also started an Israeli Wine Show online and wanted to see how you started. Looking forward to tasting wine with you in March.

  • i know i’ve seen at least 600 shows.I started watching in winter of 06 via “veoh”. at some point i want to watch the shows that i’ve missed out on..but at the rate your poppin out new stuff it aint gonna happen any time soon and i’m perfectly fine with that

  • oh and by the way my favorite show is the 1 where you tried to encourage us to expand our palette so you ate a bunch of random shit..including your sock but my favorite moment was when you looked at the pepper and hesitated…the fear in your eyes almost brought tears of joy to mine, strange love…the things you do for us

  • i almost forgot to make a request. I don’t remember you doing a show that focuses on veggie flavor profiles….like some of the more dominant veggie flavors you’ve noticed in wines. you’ve mentioned asparagus, broccolli and peppers in the past but is that it-i doubt it. What else have you noticed that you think is yummy and you think we should be thinking to try or even herbs like tarragon, lavendar, etc flavors that you spot alot and have yet to discuss with us. I know your on a fruity kick right now but it would be cool if you can do another show about food flavors that you didn’t focus on in your grocery madness video (can you tell that i liked that show). if you did a video talking about veggies i clearly missed it. Let me know

Its funny because I usually find Italian wines a bit overwhelming because of the sheer number of varietals, or maybe its because I can’t understand Italian. However, Barbera D’alba are one of the few that I have tried repeatedly.

QOTD: I’ve probably watched around 300-400 episodes. This is a major guess since I go through spells where I watch the show for months and then I just forget to. Sometimes I do go through archives and watch shows that feature wine that I’m trying at that time.

  • those 16 1/2 days was a well spent investment

oops, next time I’ll put a little lol or :0 or 😉 or whatever girly men do to let you know that it was a humor-based comment. Sheesh! Oh, I mean LMAO

    Great show! I love Barbera!
QOTD: I think I could safely say I’ve seen 500-600 episodes

    Great show! I Love Barbera!
I’ve probably enjoyed at least 500-600 fantastic episodes!

The Piedmont region is on fire with sucessful vintages lately; the Big Guy has smiled on this region – the vintages from ’04 – ’08 (depending, as always, on the producer) are all excellent. About that 2nd wine (the Vietti)…through the years I’ve noticed that certain age-worthy wines can sometimes “close down” or go into a “dumb” state – usually within 1-3 years of bottling – only to re-emerge at a later date, the duration of which is anyone’s guess. During this period, they can come across as “aromatically challenged”, “without charm”, and be generally disappointing. Once they “wake” again, these troubling attributes vanish and the wine is once again the wine we hoped for at purchase; fruity, complex, and a joy to drink. I am quite sure Gary is well aware of this perplexing trait; perhaps it would be of service to his avid fans (the self-professed “Vayniacs”) as well as those new to wine to bring this to their attention. And if he already has…nevermind!

Don’t usually plug other critic’s on GVs site, but since he mentions Antonio Galloni, check out issue #190 (8/31/10) of The Wine Advocate – article “Italy’s Finest Values” – if, of course, you have access. Lots of 88-91 point Barbera/Dolcetto d ‘Alba/Asti for half what these go for. And don’t be surprised if the 2nd wine is the better of the two in another year (or if it had been decanted)!

QOTD: From the hip? Easy: 971. No, I did not watch them from day one, as I started watching at about episode #80, but I quickly back-tracked and caught up once I started watching 4…ish years ago. I’ve also been commenting consistently for probably 800+ episodes, but you know that GV. Cheers, my friend. Can’t wait for the #1000 episode!! Maybe I’ll fly to NJ for the taping if you’re having a shindig…

I’m starting to get pumped about wine again so i’ve been watching more episodes lately but i’ve been a fan since 2008

    QuEsTiOn Of ThE dAy: 122

  • Ahhh we sell the Cigliuti wines as well and they are un_be_lie_va_bly good, imho. Their Dolcetto is fantastic as well!

It’s nice to see Gary’s back in his old WLTV-rythm. Missed the consistent stream of shows, and since I’ve been too damn busy, I havent commented in a long long loonggg time.

    QOTD: I think I’ve started watching at ep…. 350? So that’ll make 620 eps!

    Cheerio!
