90/100

Lines of the day – ‘Sardine juice meets raspberry juice’ and ‘I’m a huge fan of red radish – Lizzie gets mad because I eat ’em then burp a little and it smells terrible.’

Like the wines, GV gets a bit funky before the Jets big game.

    Great show!!

  • Gary, Remember as you are Crying after your win against the PITTS. That you will also be Crying AFTER your LOSS against the BEARS in the Superbowl.

  • KAHUNA

wow Gary’s arms make his shirt look tan

QOTD — the short tight shows are a nice change of pace.
I had to laugh — you looked like someone who tries a red wine right after brushing their teeth when you first tried the brunello.

    LOL

QOTD: You talk so much about trying new formats, keeping it short, fewer guests, more guests, more information, more brown bags, more this, less this. Just do what you feel like any given day. You are in that position 😉

  • Big G, love the Italian episodes. Keep em coming and good luck on Sunday.

The BdM musta had bottle shock! did you drop it on its head? QOTD. How many disappointing Italian or Bordow wines have you had?
    Way too many!

  • Anonymous

QOTD: just keep mixing it up.

The Jets have the momentum right now – that is one of the best things you can have in the playoffs. They seem to have figured out their defense just in time. Of course, Gary, a few weeks back after the terrible performance against the Pats you said the Jets wouldn’t win another game. Maybe you shouldn’t be predicting them to win this week, either.

  • Tight, real, authentic : I like it Gary!
What about the wine suggestions out of the WLTV forum? Over?

  • wow, early today too. Thanks a lot.
    1352 😀
    Burp!!!
I ‘m making a three cours e meal every thursday and actually had a Brunello today. a 2005 Piccin Villa al Cortile Brunello di Montalcino and it was good.
TRue Garey, men should cry more often. If you have a dream and comes true, cry your heart out- Cheers!
QOTD: Thight is good a couple days and then break that of with nerdy and a bit longer ( not gigantic long)

  • QOTD: Let’s get real… all of your programming is entertaining. I appreciate your willingness to go outside of other wine drinkers and challenge the viewers of this show! Any format is good.

How about laid back friday with a pack of HOCKEY cards tomorrow?

Also, C’mon Ducks!!!! Big game against Toronto tonight. Those guys are going to be PISSED after last night’s big loss at the hands of the Rangers.

  • QOTD: Absolutely prefer the shorter ones. Easier to find time to watch.

GV–add one leather jacket and you can pretend to be James Dean.

its good when they are short + new post everyday

QOTD: Continue to mix it up! I like the short shows, LOVE the Brown Bags, look forward to new great guests, want badly a BRAZILIAN SPARKLING SHOW and miss the Friday Laid Back COUCH!!!

Question to GV: Just curious. What do you do with the leftover wines after the shows, give them to staff, take them home???

  • Anonymous

Tight is good, but I also miss the brown bags. I was looking at an episode from 2008 when you tasted 6 Sauvignon Blancs. I also like you zipping through 4-6 of the same varietals to give a good sample of what may be out there. Also, increases the odds that the viewer has tried one or two of what you are tasting, making it more interesting, I think.

  • Love the Right Bank Bordeaux shows… found a ’05 Les Lunelles at a local shop… will be picking it up this weekend… now it’s time for you to do Cht. La Pointe!!!

QOTD: I like when you mix it up… short shows, brown bags, ‘face offs’… a I REALLY miss the LAID BACK FRIDAY shows, on the COUCH, with the BIG ASS GLASS!!!

  • Anonymous

QOTD: No complaints, but I miss the couch, and the CKC always appreciates the bang-for-your-buck, ‘great wines under $_’ episodes. Like a good blitzing scheme, keep mixing it up.

  • Anonymous

I do not mind at all that the wines were lackluster, I enjoyed the sh*t out of this show; particularly your descriptions of the Clos Les Lunelles.

QOTD: This seems to be one of the more popular debates/discussions on this forum. I will say what I have always said; mix it up a few long nerdy shows (with guests or without, as long as they bring a similar energy you do). Brown Bags are some of my favorite shows, as well as laid back Friday’s (is there an echo in here??). All in all, as long as you keep expanding my knowledge of wine and keep raining down thunder like Zeus on Olympus I (and hopefully others) will keep watching. A hearty and happy PROST to all!

  • QOTD: *love* the taut shows. Keep ’em coming. Almost by default, any show that does not have a guest is taut.

  • Anonymous

qotd- i love the tight shows. very educational. I also love the brown bag show and would love to see a brown bag thursday type of thing. (it doesn’t have to be thursdays)
    Thanks for the show(s) gary

Hate the taut shows…..Longer the better! Bring on Oz and other wine guests!

  • Anonymous

I’m falling behind on shows! Never too busy for thunder though….just have to catch up later. Thanks for all the great new stuff G.

  • MGMWHINO

QOTD – Big fan of 2 wines, 10 minutes.
    Go Bears!

like the tight shows, as long as you have a guest from time to time, and a couple of brown bag shows thrown in; i guess i’m saying just keep it a mixed bag like it always has been. I feel you on the man-cry things; i cried like a baby when my beloved Flyers made it to the finals last year.

  • QOTD: Like the shorter episodes, especially when there’s lots of nerdy info in there. Love the blind shows. I also enjoy guests when they’re interesting and knowledgeable, as the past several have indeed been.

  • Gold Gary, Gold!!

  • Anonymous

Bring on the short shows – I like the efficiency! I vote for more blind tastings too.

  • Love the short shows, though that means I waste less time at work…

Question for Gary: Why use a 100 point scale if your idea of a bad wine is say 75 or 80 points? Meaning you have a 20-25 point scale really. Just a thought if you are really getting at changing the wine world 😉 I have never understood this.

Hey Gary, fantastic show today! One of your best in a long time. Very focused and tight. Being an obvious Brunello fan, I am disappointed in the 05 Barbi. The 04 is freaking awesome in my opinion. QOTD: what was the QOTD?

  • Anonymous

Like the tight shows but basically its the variety I like, sometimes more BS, sometimes more education, a little bit of everything.

One thing that I don’t think you have touched on is the filtered/unfiltered issue, basically I understand that un unfiltered wine is more natural but why is it an issue, I know Parker is completely against filtered wines but why?
Another question I have, and I have my own opinion on this but I’d rather gets yours or another vayniac’s opinion, is how do you know how long a wine can age for? Used to thing it hat to do with the tannins but then you have white burgundies that can age for 30 yrs, so now I have the impression it has to do more with the acidity and the overall balance of the wine???

  • QOTD: Great format. Easy to digest!

  • Anonymous

Qotd… I like a mix. It doesn’t have to be short and sweet all the time as I do like it when you have guests. I really like the on location shows at the vineyard/wineries… couple of those this year would not hurt my feelings.
When the JETS go to Dallas, I’ll make the 6 hour drive to come down to see you if you put something together.

Very Funny, DEEAsti. YEAAAAHHHHHHHH! “The Big Ass Glass” Finally. FANTASTIC!

Way to bring the truth and honesty, cause thats the way you roll. GV, I also love my steaks with that char on the outside, MMMMMMMM Good! Thems good eats.

Great show, and I too am disappointed with that Brunello. Just goes to show that those $40-$50 bones does not a good wine make.

Love it Gary, you are roll’n. NOSTROVIA!

me thinks G was auditioning for a part on Jersey Boys 🙂

QOTD: I like the tight shows, that is if you mean in length of time 10 -15 minutes with lots of content, I’m there.

Now if guests are involved, then we have to go 30+, even 2 parters. Gotta make sure we get to know the guest and feel where he or she is coming from.

  • Anonymous

    I can’t stop laughing. HILARIOUS!

  • QOTD: I like that some shows are short and some are long. Variety is key. Two wines in ten minutes is good once in a while, but would lose its excitement really quickly.

  • Meh.
QOTD: Likem longer with more info on the wines, plus bring back the bags. The WA syrah episode was classic one.

    Always “The Big ASS Glass”

  • Anonymous

    Yeah, OZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

  • Anonymous

I cry if my underware is too tight that day. 😛

  • Anonymous

We all have short comings, we know you would like it longer. Now tell us about the show format. 😮

  • Anonymous

Theres no need to be sorry about wines not bringing the thunder. That is the reassurance that this show isn’t just set up and all the wines are “amazing”.

QOTD: The small formats are nice because the show never drags that much. But I still like the length of brown bag shows. Not only that but the suspense involved and what not. But the small formats are a nice change to the overly long shows when a guest goes on a little too much about whatever. Though the recent guests have been pretty good about that.
