Line of the day, Sasha – ‘I nailed it’ Gary ‘No – you agreed with Robert Parker’

Good show – I like the way Gary has so much more knowledge and insight into the wines tasted but doesn’t make Sasha feel bad for not knowing so much. Classy

  • Oakmon’s BF

How about Justin? Are in-laws invited?

  • Thanks, Castello!

Sasha checks his watch twice in the first 5 seconds…like, how long is this thing gonna take?

  • Anonymous

    Thanks Dan, she appreciates it!

castello, yep! It kept opening up, getting better and better. At around 48 hours decanted it peaked!

  • Check out Caduceus from Maynard James Keenan of the band Tool. Making lots of noise!

  • Globex

perfect example of why my wife & I fell in love with this show, WL, and the entire Vaynerchuk family. Love the relationship between you and your pops. But dude, seriously, you know he gots to have the food with his vino. Last time the poor guy had to pull out left-over sandwiches that he bought at the mini-mart the night before cuz your mom was out of town. Funny thing also is that I too decided to suit/tie it up a bit more this year while my sons appear to have dressed down even more (I didn’t think that was possible) so we balance out the office just fine I guess.

    QOTD: Green Bay

  • awesome show! love it! i’m going with the Steelers, but should be a good game.

Would rather have the snow than the ice. How’s the electricity over your way? Are you N-Central-S?

  • Good for you… or not. We actually had rain yesterday and snow today, but only half an inch. More is forecast for tomorrow and next week: february is the snow month of winter for us so… 🙂 At least it’s not to much below freezing right now.

  • Your dad is one cool guy. I enjoy him being on the show. Good stuff.

We can change the wine world and keep it classy too!

    Packers.

Tool has always made a lot of noise! ; ) How much does the Cad retail for?

  • Anonymous

And let me guess…the 3.8% that can age is…Bordeaux?

Great show with Sasha, as always! I’m kind of getting tired of Napa Cabs and my darn local wine shop wine club keeps giving me Napa Cabs. But once in awhile, they are really good, especially with a big, juicy grilled steak.

QOTD: I am rooting for the Packers but I think the Stillers will win another one (gag!)

  • Phaser

    Hey Gary,
Great show, allways like the ones with you father in the. Never been one for the Cabs but still a fun show.

  • Def packers!

    I love pops episodes!

  • Sal B

Great show! Always great to see your dad on with you. They are saying that 07 California cab is killer.

  • RobinC

QOTD: I don’t have anything invested in the outcome of the superbowl. So if you like the Packers, that’s fine with me.
Gary, I think you’re the nicest when you’re with your dad.

Shasha and brown bags. What could be better?
Maybe Shasha, brown bags, and food from the start. Your pop likes his food alright.
QOTD- Sorry. Could not care less.

  • Anonymous

    Gary: It’s just delicious

    Sasha: Whats wrong with that?

    Love it! 🙂

  • Anonymous

Lisa S, I am on your frequency! The Nor-Cal Cabs, brown bags, Sasha, and the big ass glasses. Bring me more!

About the tie thing. Look to the right here. Episode #780. Gary with the flip camera. Looks like an important wine event. Just about, almost, the only guy in the room without a tie on. Classic.

Enjoy seeing you and your dad together Gary.

    who’s Sasha?

  • Anonymous

One of the most poetic moments in WLTV just passed before our eyes. Shafer One Point Five is a collaboration of the wine maker and his son. Sasha guessed the sale price, Gary guessed the retail. AWESOME. Sasha was a little pissed to not have any food, but what a payoff. The intimate banter in the last 2-3 minutes was priceless. Thunderishous.

QOTD: Green Bay?? Don’t know. I’ll watch. I know too many Steeler fans that I feel like not cheering for Steelers.

    link up cheese names?!!

  • Anonymous

No food? What?….. Sasha had his head in his hand until the cheese and bread came! Hilarious…. We all love your dad Gary!

  • Sasha and bags!! I think everybody at home picked up on the fact that Sasha would not rest until he had food. The man knows what he likes! Classic! Yes the PALs change. Sipping some excellent Wind Gap Syrah as a testament to that!

QOTD: Will have to go with the Steelers since my wife is from the Burgh.

  • Anonymous

    G’s just warm’n up. He’ll make it!

  • Anonymous

Sasha is indeed the greatest guest ever.
Thought GreenBay was gonna win it last year so gotta stick with them this year 24-13.

You guyz is too funny together. I love me some cheese, drinking a 50-50 blend of torrontes and ugni blanc that I paired with some pepper crusted cod tonight. Simple wine but tasty nonetheless. Packers 21- Steelers 17.

    Hey Gary,
Have you tried our Coonawarra Cabernets or those from Margaret River? They would blow you away just like Cyclone Yasi did to north Queensland! You should do a program on these rather than the el cheapo ones we unfortunately export. Great show as always. Steelers 27 Packers 14.

    Awesome show with your Dad!

    QOTD: I don’t watch football, so I don’t have a prediction.

  • No doubt, I’m sitting on my Wynn’s John Riddoch and Houghton Jack Mann from the 90’s waiting for them to grow up. The ’99 Jack Mann is drinking well but I’ll bet there are more things to come… I hope more importers take your advice; in the mean time I’ll buy up as many great aussie reds as I can while they remain unpopular and ridiculously underpriced.

You are right Pat. There are so many other regions in Australia that produce Cabernets that are almost as good. I just picked the first two that came to mind. Enjoy those wines!

  • Haha great show, sorry to post this here but the forum doesn’t seem to work, does anyone know any good wine wines also this is my question?

Hi, I’ve got a blind tasting exam in a few months and was wondering if I could get some help. These are the grapes that could come up in the test:

White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Viognier and Pinot Grigiot
Red – Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Zinfandel, Syrah and Sangiovese

Basically I was wondering if people could recommend some good examples of each varietal for both new world and old world that demonstrate good, clear examples of the characteristics typically associated with each grape and where possible costing no more than $15.

    Thanks for your help.

    Conor

Side Question, what is up with the camera? The zoomy zoom is loud for the last couple episodes.

    QOTD: GB 30 PIT 27

Almost QOTD: Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Prime Steakhouse

Great episode. At first, Sasha checks his watch (does he really have time for this?) and he says “no food.” Gary usually opposes Sasha’s food requests but when the food finally arrives Gary elbow’s Sasha out of the way to get to it. But Dad and Son obviously love each other and how wonderful is that?
