Lines of the day – ‘I literally want you to take a bell pepper, turn it into a boxing glove and punch me in the face’ and ‘If this was the 1960’s Mott would be smoking a lot of pot and I still wouldn’t be talking about Merlot.’

Great show, GV absolutely on point and pumped full of energy. This is what WLTV is all about

Gary, thanks for mentioning me in the show.
After you mentioned the first guys I thought **** (we do curse in Europe and this one begins with an s and ends with a t ), why doesn’t he mention me?, although I’m writing nearly every episode a comment.
But, you did mention me, though a little silent 🙂
I would have preferred a big shout out …. MARCBELGIUM. Maybe that’s for another time.

    Nice show, poor wines.

    QOTD. I have an Iphone.

QODT: No, I don`t have a iPod or a iPad.

  • No iPhone or iPad here, either.

    QOTD: No/No. I’m working the Driod/Kindle equations.

Like the South Africa white blend situation too – try AA Badenhorst’s White. It’s round £20 in the UK. In $, I have no idea.

Totally love the “If this was in the 60s, things would be different… Mott would be smoking a lot of pot” line. Brilliant.

    #CKC love,
    A

  • Yes I do have an iPhone.
Thanks for doing a South African wine.
Like I mentioned in a previous tweet. would like to hear your views on some Hartenberg wines as well.

Gary, I have an Ipod Touch. I have watched a couple hundred podcasts since the end of 2008. I want to comment on your programs, but it would be highly beneficial if your podcasts would be uploaded as soon as your episode on winelibrary tv. Otherwise, I will always be the 500th person to comment, which isn’t very motivational.

Being a Huge Jet and Bears fan I’m miserable that the Packers won, I HATE THEM more than any other NFL team.

I love the value wines for week nights. I call them my “non cringe” wines for during the week!

I enjoy the whites and some of the reds from South Africa, but NOT the Pinotage.

    QOTD: No, I HATE anything i- !!!!

Yay, McGill! I’m currently reading “Ancient Wine: The Search for the Origins of Viniculture” by Patrick McGovern, which is really good. So far it’s really good, but I doubt it’ll have much information on modern varietals and terroir. I’d also love to hear other’s suggestions about that.

Gary, you should start a consulting firm for developing wine countries!
QOTD: iphone, im a freelance stylist, so as dumb as it sounds I really couldn’t stay on top of my work like I do without it.

  • iPhone: Yes
iPad: Not yet (waiting for v.2)

  • Love to se the value wines. I regularly by a $100 mixed case from our local wine merchants – almost always find a gem or two, occasionally dump one out.

QOTD: No iPhone or iPad. I’ve got a laptop, a Blackberry, and a Nook. That’s all I need.

    Gary,

I’m a student at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, and I’ve been watching your show for about 250 episodes now (haven’t been 21 that long!). I’ll admit, I’ve been a lurker until now, but I saw today that you’re going to be visiting my school on March 23rd. I’m so excited for your visit, and if you were serious about doing some shows on the road I’d love to talk to you about setting something up while you’re here. The alumni association here has been reaching out to my senior class this year about raising wine consciousness- the speaker series of which you will be a part, known as the Athanaeum, features wines for students on a nightly basis, and we just had a wine appreciation night for our class hosted by the board of trustees last week. I think an episode of wine library would fit perfectly into this theme.

Looking forward to seeing you live!

QOTD- I do have an iPhone, but im hating it right now b/c the app “words with friends” is taking over my life!

    QOTD: No.

  • Packer_Backer

QOTD: I own neither. My Blackberry works great and 1 iPad = 2 cases of very decent wine IMHO.

I am a CKC from Auckland! A Major lurker and have been for a long time now! If for some reason you do come to New Zealand you have to come visit Auckland Uni. I would love to see you around..ill even help organize if needed haha!

Yes iPhone, waiting for 2nd gen iPad. ALSO–I thought you guys don’t edit? Definitely an edit point at 1:44…

  • Like for many people, a plain smart phone does it for me. Not part of the apple frenzy, sorry.
Thanks for bringing Loire again. I discovered it thanks to the show, and life is not the same since…

Fun show, like how you are so excited about Chinon, really makes me wanna try it. Was surprised to find some celery sticks in the Merlot I had this week. (Columbia Crest, 2006 Merlot – Washington state)

QOTD: No iPhone, use an iPod touch as en iPad 🙂

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Neither! (Must be one of the last…)
Loved the show, would love to hear more from ‘obscure’ markets, what about Bulgaria, Japan or Brazil??

  • Anonymous

    Yes… Both.

    This show…meh.

I can’t find wines Gary talks about on a regular basis at SAQ. When I do find them, the following pattern arises: value wines (ckc budget) are priced higher at SAQ compared to Wine Library but high value wines are similarly priced.

    QOTD – yup, iphone 3gs.

I’ve really been meaning to try out a chinon at some point, I haven’t had the chance yet.

Weird QOTD – no and no.

    CKC’s in the house
What up GV? More value play. I will definitely seek out some Chinon sounds like my kind of thing.
I’m in law school now at Maryland so if you’re doing events in the DC Baltimore area let me know. Love to grab a glass.
QOTD: I’m a blackberry man no i-anything here

I’m in the CkC, I go to Fairleigh Dickinson University. I’m taking a wine class during my last semester at school and I’ve been watching your show for about 3 weeks now and I love it.

    Nice! I love the bloopers!
QOTD: No and no. I currently do not own any iProducts.

Dude! Thanks for the shout-out. Actually, I used to be just “JayZee” in the old days, but stupid Disqus wouldn’t let me have that as my profile name so I had to modify it. Anyway, interesting show, although not the type of wines I usually roll with – meaning “value play”. Not that I don’t like a decent and inexpensive wine. It’s just that they are harder to find than the $25 decent wines and I am fortunate enough to be able to afford those. I did have a Madiran once and it was fantastic – a big, tannic beast of a wine. It went great with the steak I was having for dinner that evening.

QOTD: Yes, I have an iPhone.

Oh, yeah, I loved the tasting with James Suckling from WS. Really cool and you nailed it, Gary. Kudos!

  • QOTD: iPhone and waiting on 2nd gen. iPad.

  • Anonymous

Great concept today Gary. You gotta make your way out west (and a little north) to BC to taste some of the interesting Tannats (Twisted Tree) and Cab Francs (Hester Creek, Burrowing Owl) coming out of the Okanagan!

Not a CKC, not an owner of an IPhone or IPad, but definitely know that I don’t need any of those to enjoy the energy and passion you bring to wine. My QOTD, when does that supercharged battery of yours ever run out? By the way, big fan of the Chinon.

I’m a new watched of your show and enjoying it. Have you done anything on Virginia wines? I may be biased being surrounded by a bunch of Virginia vineyards, but I really think there are a lot of good wines being made here.
