QOTD: Just had a Newton Napa Cab the other day and it was pretty good. Gary about the Supermarket Wine show were is it. haha” Just kidding man”. I do think a cool show would be trying collector or suv. wines like Elvis, Kiss, Marilyn Monroe to see what your take on them are just a thought keep up the great work GV.

  • Thx for the link. That was some real thunder indeed!

  • I appreciate your effort to mask your disgust with CA oak monster wines. I can’t take them at all. Every one is exactly the same until you get above 75 US Bones. France and Washington for Cab these days. But to play along with the QOTD: Kirkland Signature Series Oakville Estate. That’s right… Costco. It’s mystery juice but you know whatever the real source, it’s more than 30 bones in its proper label.

The show is too short. 🙂

Are you kidding me? Can’t believe we didn’t see the OAK MONSTER today!! After watching this I have to admit.. I kinda like the 20 minute epics. Obviously you’re not going to do that all of the time, but this felt a little short.

QOTD: hold on let me go check my wine rack!

Agree With the Sonoma Martini’s, 05, 06,07 & 08 GREAT for the $$. Also Hayman n Hill Cab for 12 bones! Souverain 06 Cab as well.

  • fat chef

and the winner is: Fetzer ’07!
lmao- that we actually had an ’07 california cab on the rack!!

  • ALLAN

    Life too

nice find Kasper. I’m actually drinking a Cab Franc right now. Justin Monmouseau (sp) Chinon ’08. Not bad for $11

  • saaaaaawing wood!
I don’t get it. Really oaky and not a monster?
solid, solid, solid, lot’s of solid uttered. What is that really?

QOTD: öhh, come again, Napa? I like Bonterra cab from Mendocino

QOTD: Favorite Napa Cab under $40.

Gotta go with Martin Ray Cabernet Diamond Mountain District. The 2006 pulled in 92 points from WE and I can find it locally at $35.00 … Too high for an everyday quaffer, but a great weekend juice. Also very nice is the Courtney Benham Stags Leap District 2006, which I can find locally at about $30.00 …

I’ve tried some Chilean Cabernet’s but get too much bottle variation for them to be reliable replacements (like the Cousino Macul Antiguas Reserva). The Bodega Cantena Zapata Cab’s seem more reliable out of Argentina and blow the doors off of Napa as far as QPR.

  • South African colombard here…

  • decent show

QOTD: Can’t really think of any good or reccomendable cab sauv under 30.

Ok, everyone needs to rewatch this episode just for Mott’s “Sniffy Sniff!!!”. Why don’t you cheer like that any more Mott?

  • and even if you drink them, life ends to soon.

Really enjoyed this show, which is strange because I usually feel unsatisfied after a quickie like this one. No shout outs this episode?? I will not stop until every one of the West Coast Vayniacs that was at our tasting gets a shout out!

QOTD: Hess select is decent, I honestly forget the price but I think it is right on the line. Folie a deux is not bad either (but has gone down hill since they got bought out).

  • stop rubbing that in….

  • I might have to explore the Martini wine. Liked this episode. Concentrated.

QOTD: Do not have one; I avoid the Napa Valley, looking for other wines of the world and in other parts of the state. Trying to get nerdy!

  • unsatisfied after a quickie? Nah?

  • Tastings? West Coast? Best Coast?

    Viva SoCal!

Can I “like” this comment,,, let’s see here… LisaS… barolodude… Rick and Anita… myself… castello, no, already shouted out to him… cellarrat5, no, already got him… John Farrin, um, no, already called “the Man” (and thanks again Dorothy).
So can I “like” this comment FIVE times? Judges?

  • Nick

boooo, i can’t answer QOTD because i haven’t had any napa cab yet! They are not that easy to find in Belgium. Had a Washington state cab on monday on my wine course. Should check my notes (too lazy) but definately didn’t baffle me

  • Randall

    You were invited, my friend…

    btw SoCal… it’s just SO 70’s, Ponch!
    :D!!

  • Curls_CDN

QOTD – Plumpjack makes a yummy entry level Cab… and their premium stuff knocks it out of the park. Killer wines….

To be honest, my palate has never really taken to Napa Cabs mainly cuz they’re overly oaked and to fruit-bomb like. I like my Cab Sauvs with a little more earthiness, minty thing, etc going on.

QOTD: I’m going with the Honig Cabernet – both 2006 and 2007.

I like the format. More head to head please.

Unfortunately I never had a Napa Cab… I guess I’ll have to wait until I visit California!

Gary. What’s the big rush. Looks like your sprinting to a thousand shows. Slow down enjoy the wine. Prefer the longer shows with more comparisons, brown bags, double blindes and obscure grape varieties.
    QOTD. Absolutely under $30 bones…Cenay ’07, Girard ’07, Hall ’07 and Villa San-Juliette ’07

Very good episode GV!! Did you follow my advice after yesterday’s QOTD?

Good episode. Snoring….another WLTV classic term. Got a chuckle out of me for sure. QOTD – Clone 5

K-Murph, Oz Clarke, Beer, Whisky amongst other stuff IS TOTALLY MISSING!!!??!! Can we REACH it all before the big BANG!???!

  • Anonymous

    Sure you can!

    Think Happy thoughts..

I saw the Louis Martini and at first hoped it was the Sonoma because I’ve had that (Costco $10.99) and even though it has a good deal of oak it’s IMO a good drink and only scored a point lower by Parker (90). So, on the QPR standard $20 vs $11 and only one point lower…..you make up your mind.

QOTD: It was the 2005 Conn Creek Limited Release until the 2006 came out. $16.99

  • ALLAN

Yeah, but you get Quality instead of absolute Shite!

  • Anonymous

Nice, quick show. 89 for $20. Not bad.

QOTD: I like the ’06 Cliff Lede quite a bit. I think you folks offered that for $30, and for $20 in a three-pack. ’06 Conn Valley is too young, but $30 was a good price for it.

  • fat chef

CLASSIC!!!!! Hooraah for archives, I’ve only been watching for like 3 weeks and have already watched somewhere in the realm of 40-50 episodes, so much goodness!!!

  • Anonymous

Only the best in the world! IMHO

  • The 2007 Obsidian Ridge, hands down best under $30 Cab this year

  • pounded half a bottle of Beaujolais Village 2009 tonight. Strawberry lemonade with rosépepper and some dirt mixed in riesling spritzy surrounding, strange but really good.only 10 bones

  • he turns 50 this year

Have a virtual smoke and the quickie will do the trick 😉 I see you’re trying to be super inclusive but what happens when the ‘little people’ don’t like us saying ‘Let them eat cake’? I don’t know about you, my friend, but I dislike sharp, shiny, descending objects. Fear the blade!

All that oak and no oak monster did I miss the episode when he passed away
