91/100

Line of the day – ‘Wine & Spirit is smoking some seriously good ganga if they think it’s a 92’

Great to see the quick-fire tasting method GV would use if he were tasting with a view to buying for the store. Interesting.

  • QOTD: I agree with the bunch, this is going too fast 🙁 If your shows can’t be longer than 6 minutes, 3 wines are too many. Would prefer 15-20 minutes though…

  • ALLAN

The Vayniacs are warning you G…………. HA! They’ll watch any & everything you do. Don’t worry, be happy.

  • This was a rough show. I was not a fan of this format.

QOTD: I think the refined version of this format is the bread and butter of WLTV. A few years back, you went at a steady clip and got through 3 wines in about 12 minutes (give or take).

Hmmm…….. Perhaps worst show ever? Love ya man but this was way bad……. No foreplay 😉

  • Anonymous

We all know the 5% is a mancrush. But seriously, even though you got a shout out, you don’t have a RELATIONSHIP with the man 😉

  • ALLAN

    1 wine = 5 minutes
    2 wines = 10 minutes
    3 wines = 15 minutes

Multiply by 100 = Serious THUNDER!!!! 😛 (I did it, YEEHAAWW!!)

  • The tasting notes on that first wine were very different when he was giving it to Wine Club C a few months back…

Your a laugh riot, your heinous. And no, that was NOT auto correct 😉

Gary, don’t want to just be critical, how about this? Do a different format each day of the week, just be consistent week after week. Mondays do a standard 3 or 4 bottle format, (we need a good fix after a weekend of no GV), Tuesdays do two bottles head to head, Wednesday do guests, thursdays do blind, then of coarse laid back fridays…..?? That way everyone gets what they want at least once a week and it mixes things up.

  • one twist….do the speed tasting but don’t show your cards (mark down a score)….

then have Mott brown bag them, shuffle them around, and then do the regular show where you tell some more stories and play around more, and score the wines.

Or you could also see if you’d like any of the wines Better tasting with Food.

Not feeling this show format either… kinda with the rest of the crew below. Something is missing… Need more animation… more passion…. more Gary-ness… that’s why the fans (myself included) love you so much. It’s not just about the wine reviews, it’s about your delivery that makes you come back daily for more…

you know what they say… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

  • Liked this ‘type’ of show the least…

    QOTD: Add some // passion!!!

    Busted!

This show and the shows this year, feel like a race to episode 1k…… but still interesting stuff….. though not feeling the Thunder…… sure hope there will be some higher (95+) point wines coming this year…… I feel the excitement when an excellent wine scratches Gary’s itch.

I am gonna have to repost this. Good job.

  • Honestly, I don’t think this was the right format. You can do a thunder show, full of energy and passionate show, but this one was the complete oposite, was just in a hurry.

I’m pretty sure that most of the people that watch and really like this show will not mind about 2 or 3 minutes longer shows.

QOTD: I’m a little late posting today because I had to watch the ep and then go through all the comments to make sure that mine wouldn’t be redundant. I must admit Vayniacs that I’m disappointed in your responses. The refinement that Gary wanted is SO obvious that I can’t believe none of you have given it.

PIP (Picture in picture)!!!!!!!! By my calculations Gary could get the show in at exactly 53 seconds by overlapping the various activities in six PIP boxes. Eduardo Nirvana! 😉

Not a fan of this show. 🙁 Not enough info and just seemed way to rushed. Didn’t bring anything for me. I’m Just Say’n. The one saving point is the “Ganja” Wine & Spirits is smoking. :O Classic!

I couldn’t believe you retasted the Irpinia that you tasted with Suckling. I’m sorry brother just being real. 🙁

  • MattB

Rwine – great suggestion. I like this idea of a “daily theme”. Nothing wrong with mixing it up each day but having some pattern would for me a leat add to the enjoyment of the weekend run of shows. I too would go with this!!

  • Anonymous

Gotta have the spontaneity. Being real is what Gary is. This seemed way too preconceived!

  • Anonymous

Slow down buddy. I think you missed rinsing twice. another minute per wine would help.
Overall, I love your shows. I’ve learned a bunch. Thanks.

  • Anonymous

I’m not a huge fan of the format, but this is a really good suggestion on refining it. I need some variety in life, food, and wine, I guess I can take some in my WLTV too!

Gary, while I understand that you are (a) busy and (b) taste wines like this on a normal basis, I just want to say that that was the most PAINFUL show I have ever sat through of yours. From someone who absolutely loves Aglianico, this show was utterly devoid of personality, demeaning to the growers and region, and dismissive of the wonderful complexity and richness you usually get from this grape. IF I was a first time watcher, I would not even consider watching again.

Let me say that I love your show and mean you no disrespect. But what I like about your show is that you excel at balancing fun, approachability, and charisma with respect for wine and wine culture. That REQUIRES taking the time to go through each wine, talk about the region, and give some depth in tasting notes. You have been able to effectively find that balance in your relatively quick brown bag tastings. I suggest revisiting this model and see why the tasting notes you give are so effective.

QOTD: Refine by never doing that again.

  • MattB

Good suggestions here. This way you could broaden the range of wines that you taste – getting into a specific category and then drill deep with detail and passion into the top 3. I think that format would work well.

The dead silence was way to uncomfortable! 😛

    I agree wholeheartedly. Well put.

Quite a discrepancy on how the same wine is reviewed, huh?

    http://tv.winelibrary.com/cclub0709/

First the salesman, then the speed taster. Gary, you know damn well what made us love the show, and it’s netiher of the above. We want the real-deal Vaynerchuk.
I totally get why you felt on to something; this show had a certain weirdness to it, that should be appealing to you, after sooo many episodes. BUT!
There has to be time for laughs, time for absurd mispronounciations, time for interplay with Mott, time for walking to K-Murph’s office, time for talking about childhood memories (Asphalt Bubbles!), time for at least seeming like you care, and most of all, time for talking about and really tasting the wine.
It was fun to see you do this, but there’s is no future in a show that quick. This has to be mixed with something of a more personal and entertaining sort, and 3 wines have to take a lot longer than this. Not enough heart, and not enough information.
I really loved the show (because of it’s surreal qualities), but I consider it a nice experiment and nothing more.

  • Anonymous

    ditto!

Oh by the way: was this the last show of a LOOOOONG day of taping? There has to be at least 8 shows in that shirt (counting the wineclub stuff as well).

  • Anonymous

Chill out GV – too manic – Aglianico deserved more of your attention and I wanted to hear you talk more about it.
Not a good show for me.

  • Anonymous

GV, you forgot a sniffy sniff!! A little bit too fast my friend!

I was intrigued by the description of how Gary V tastes wines for the store, initially tasting through a large lineup and then maybe going back and tasting a couple that were impressive. I like the idea of a larger lineup of wines, say 6-8, from a single region at one maybe two distinct price points, with very brief comments on each initially and then a more thorough tasting of the two or three best (where best could be defined by QPR as well as rating).

I do want the 2 minute intro with an overview of the region/varietal and some general comments, though. I think expanding one’s palate has as much to do with learning about different wines as it does with tasting them!

  • Quite an Interesting Experiment, and nice to see how wine tasting is done for a commercial scale, and I can see the value of of this sort of review for those who already know their wines, and are wanting your opinions on very particular wines.

However as a relative novice I love all the extra details you give in your shows, the interesting comparisons between other regions and grapes, and a bit of background on some of the produces.

In all I am certainly not going to be as negative as some of the other commenters here, more than happy to have a couple of episodes like this, but I defiantly find your other formats more helpful to my self personally.

Keep up the good work, and must remember to keep my eyes open for some of those at that price range.

If I wouldn’t have gone out and bought a Ribera del Duero and a Pinot from the RRV I would have been in the top 10 also. 😉 -6 this morning and 14 this afternoon. Hooaahh!

  • Should this one even count towards 1,000???

  • Anonymous

Slow down cowboy! I must agree with most…the show was too fast! WOW! I much prefer the longer format with your commentary, tidbits of info, etc., you provide between wines. I’m a newbie and trying to absorb it all. I’m starting to feel like a junkie needing more and more! I will take whatever you throw at me!

  • Gary,

I’m glad you didn’t do shows like this from episode 1, because I probably would not have been hooked when I first encountered WineLibraryTV. I’m with many other Vayniacs below; this is lacking the THUNDER that we all know and love so much! The wine facts and tasting notes/metaphors mixed with a healthy amount of banter about sports and other topics is what I personally love, and I’m sure many would agree. 5 mins is just not enough for 3 wines.

I’m with rwino on doing a different type of show each day, or maybe even just do a couple less shows a week if you’re pressed for time.

  • Anonymous

If it ain’t broke; don’t fix it!
Come on GV you can get to show #1000 in your usual style without the fire under your toukas!!! You’re getting away fron the charming GV persona and crossing into the Twilight Zone. Can you imagine if Carson did sports instead of late nite? Or how about Joe Buck doing comedy. Stay real pal…
QOTD: You ask us to refine. Maybe you should define.

  • Anonymous

Wha, wha, waaaa, what just happened? However,
1 out of 984 ain’t bad. (Not that I’m saying it was bad). While I do prefer the shorter reviews, even this one was too short for me. 6:10 is ok for one wine, but three……..?
Am I dissapointed? Heck no, as I’ll take anything you care to throw my way.

  • Gv

Whoa, 3 in 6 , sorry I did not like it at all.

  • Doing a show like this is worse than not taping a show at all. There is a reason you didn’t start out doing shows like this: you were into it, excited, and invested in creating a show that engaged. This show felt like: “ok, let’s hurry up and get this done”. I guess it’s a perfect show for the people who “don’t have time” to watch you.

  • Leatherpalate

Here’s what you need to do. Ditch the tri-pod and go hand held. Adopt the person ProGary Wine Taster from New Jersey( a la the Sir Gary stuff) back in the day. Trust me this is the play.

  • I agree with other Posters.
We can’t count that as a full epi, sorry.

So we are still at #983, No Fudging allowed,

  • What happened to the
SNIFFY SNIFF, come on GV jezzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • How about a guest and whirl????????????????????

  • I rate that show a 62, and a BIG PAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • Anonymous

To refine it you should do a short intro or make a graphic to let people know it is going to be this type of episode. It could be unnerving for new viewers. He made a drug reference on an episode where it seemed like he was on snow. Would somebody please tell me what he does with the wine after the tasting?

  • One last comment from me:
What was that crap where u were trying to get Mott to agree with you that this was a good show/format and was was a good style to evle into..

    Save it!! It suked

So thats the format that made this a whole WLTV thing happen?
By being short and condensed and what ever.

    Sniffy Snif
    I’m Out of Here

I was happy to see that people here aren’t kissing your butt here. That show reminded me of the Bastion Booger’s wrestling career… Short lived and not very good.

There was nothing I liked about the power tasting concept.

    toat agree!
