Drank some Brut Rose with my Honey.

  • Alex Truelove

QOTD: Unfortunately 500 miles away from my valentine today, so I kicked it with some great local pizza and an Anchor Liberty Ale.

CKC, never tried Greco before…pumped to check it out!

QOTD: Skirt steak and a 2000 L’Esprit de Chevalier which is Domaine de Chevalier second label with wifey.

BTW: Not blow pop, you meant ring pop. Like the socks. Nice recovery.

  • Kick-ass show, Gary. As soon as I saw the running time of 13:22, I smiled. This show delivered. You didn’t look like you were struggling to condense anything into a narrow timeframe, nor were you stretching your information to meet the 13 minutes. Informative episode, with room to breath. Jokes. Jets references. Featuring a wine style that I’d never tried before. THIS is why I love Wine Library TV. Thank you for the return to form.

QotD: no date this year, but my housemate and I had some girls over. We watched a terrible horror movie called “Frozen,” and drank Torrontes (specifically the 2009 from Trapiche). It was a good time.

  • FAY-YOU-DEE….not FWAY-DEE. Just wanted to throw that out that….great wines all around. Falanghina is definitely killer, as well.

Wife worked so I sat on the computer and drank a beer: Alaskan Amber.

Really like 984. I see what they say but….
I like to compare 2 varietal side by side at dinner parties 15-20 people. 2 glasses. glass 1 sniff taste, wine 2 sniff taste (without a word) everyone raises the one they like the best. Then let the discussion begin. I will totally sped taste 5-8 wines and wait for the one that blows me away to buy. A little insight in how you pick your wines for the store. I think thats great. ’06 Lan Rioja Crianza 10 bucks went great with the lamb chops going to be our new house wine.

  • Can we talk about the other white elephant in the room… FRIDAYS? I feel bad asking for episodes on that day but I cannot be alone in wanting to see an episode everyday of the week.

QOTD: Drinking some Royal Ambrosante Sherry… solo.

  • Hey GV you have 15 shows before the big 1000 and I think you have yet to discuss America’s oldest AVA. My husband and I for V-Day drank a bottle of Chambourcin and Norton from Missouri. They are some of our favorites and we feel they don’t get the play they deserve. They are great everyday drinking wines along with many of the other varietals from the Augusta, MO AVA. Living in Alaska, we load up on Missouri wines whenever we are back home.

Long time lurker. No real experience in the wine world (except what you’ve given me). I appreciate the apology, however, i feel it’s unwarranted. I feel you have done an AMAZING job in all 985 videos. In my honest opinion it boils down to 2 things:

    Education
    &
    Entertainment

If education doesn’t happen then no one cares… and believe me when i tell you Mr. Vaynerchuk, you educate. That’s what matters. It’s just a bonus that you entertain in every single video that you post.

For me, you’ve given me an outlet to explore different wines that I normally wouldn’t have tried without your guidance. I mean… everyone knows what Cabs, pinot noir, sauv blacns, etc etc are… but the way you present them gives us a better explanation of the varietal. And for that, thank you. Please keep up the excellent job you are doing.

I love the fact that you bring real life smells/tastes into your descriptions. I’ve never heard of someone describe a taste as “fruity pebbles”…which in fact…is correct. Side note* I heard a wine rep at my local store describe a wine to a customer as “spicy”. Well… what does that mean? cayenne pepper? Cinnamon? Ground black pepper?… what do you mean? It’s the real life smells/tastes that you bring to every episode that is truly entertaining.

Now, as far as educational goes. I love that we get an insight into the regions/tastes that each wine embodies. It’s perfect. I feel like each episode i watch I get a mix of culinary class mix with a Jets infused commentary. Its great.

Thank you for taking your time to do what you do. If it’s any consolidation, I appreciate it. Again, a long time lurker.

Nice show Gary V. Haven’t heard of this varietal until now but excited to try it. Insightful and informative. QOTD- Rosso di Montalcino. Can’t remember the producer, but it was killer.

  • Due to the fact that my wife Larissa is pregnant, I had a glass of 2001 Joseph Drouhin Chablis Domaine de Vaudon with a Prawn-Risotto with graipefruit und mint. She got a massage afterwards. Both “goods” were delivered by me ๐Ÿ™‚

Got invited to a friend of a friends birthday, had a flute of non-alcoholic sparkling peach drink from a bottle that was styled like a champagne bottle. It was actually pleasant, especially if you don’t try to compare it to sparkling wine!

  • Great comeback, Gary. Had never heard of Greco di Tufo. Now I’ll have to give it a go. This show would have come in handy two years ago in Venice when I got lost trying to pick an Italian white to accompany our fish dinner…

QOTD: 2005 Bisceglia Aglianico del Vulture Gudarra with The Wife, Ph.D., pork bourguignon and mashed potatoes.

  • Great show GV – I find Greco di Tufo to be a great Summer picnic type of wine. My fav is a Vesevo Grecco di Tufo D.O.C that I pay about 12EUR a bottle for. Great wine and great value.

The “map” idea is a good one.

Interesting wines and a good show. Greco wines are new to me so it was fun. Gary any show is better than no show , no apologies necessary.

QOTD; Would you believe Hot to trot from 14Hands winery.

#1: DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR A THING! You always keep it real and give a solid Ep., including 984, but I understand that you have to address the majority of the comments. I enjoyed it, especially from doing the same speed tasting format when buying in the restaurant setting.

#2: I love Greco, and I’m SO glad that you tackled this value white in this EP.

QOTD: In the Resto business, Valentine’s Day is always a work night. It’s also one of the most stressful nights of the year with a multitude of reservations, and whether you’re offering a prix fixe menu or not, it is always an…interestingly complex service. SO, after all of that, us restaurant folk usually want to drink something that satisfies and doesn’t tax our brains after the shift. For some, that means a refreshing beer. For others, that means a vodka tonic or tequila shot or some delicious cocktail. For me, tonight, it was a Costiรจres de Nรฎmes Rose– refreshing because it was chilled and had bright acidity, yet more complex and peppery than most leaner Provence versions. Satisfying. Refreshing. Delicious. Happy V-Day. Cheers.

Good job Gary! Thats the way we like it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
QOTD: Clemens Busch vom Roten Schiefer Riesling 2009. With a couple of friends at a party.

  • Great Show! Both are good wines. Have you tried Benito Ferrara’s Greco selection: Vigna Cicogna? This one is, by far, the best wine the estate produces!!!

For Valentine’s day, my girlfriend and I started with a Donnafugata Damarino 2009 and then moved onto a bottle of Carpineto Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon 1998. Both were great!

Gary – As your big “1000th episode” approaches, I have heard myriad suggestions regarding what that show should feature & with whom. As this “WLTV” thing is solely your baby (as is the lions share of the hard work required to make it the success it is) I believe that perhaps it is time you “reward” yourself with a show featuring your self-professed “desert-island wine” – Champagne. What better way to commemorate this memorable milestone than with the “wine of celebration?” Perhaps a blind tasting of three luxury cuvees (Krug, Cristal, Pol Roger ‘WC’, for example, though there are many that would fit the bill) or even three world-class “grower” champagnes (Selosse, Leclapart, Egly-Ouriet), although many of those, certainly, are more difficult to obtain. Regardless of what wines were chosen, or the type of show you choose to do, I think most would agree that after doing 999 shows “for the people”, you deserve one for yourself, for a “job well done”. Here’s to your continued success – you’ve earned it – and “Cheers”!

  • Great show!
QOTD: I had some glasses of milk, and 1 glass of Fanta.

  • Great show Gary ! Nice 2 see U getting excided about a less known varietal again ๐Ÿ™‚
QTOD: We started with a nice, full bodied and creamy-crispy Bramito Chardonnay from Castella della Sala Antinori 2009 to accompany our sea devil with raddichio, hazelnut and sweet potato and went on a enjoyably rich, chocolaty and smokey Chianto Classico Riserva 2005 from Marchese Antinori, my fav Tuscan estate :), to accompany a big chargrilled piece of Irish Beef Loin ๐Ÿ™‚ absolute amzing combo ๐Ÿ™‚ which brings me to a suggestion: how about another food-and-wine pairing show in the count down to the 1000th episode ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

    Back on track Gary!

QOTD: a 2001 Barbera Cru and a 2007 Rosso di Montalcino (in a restaurant, forgot the producers) with the best pizza in town. Together with my girlfriend.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

QOTH: I went out to a nice restaurant with my friend yesterday and we had a Bourgogne Blanc, Frรฉdรฉric Magnien, Bourgogne 07. A bit funny though, I ask about the wine and this was the waiter answered: “its from Burgundy. Its made from chardonnay. Its a blanc de blanc”. 3 different ways of telling me that is was 100% chardonnay. I would not have expected more from a “normal” restaurant, but this was a fancy one. Anyway, just wanted to share.
Loved the show, yet another grape I did not know about. Thank U.

  • ha! So true… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • You keep quiet. Oh wait, Yes, Randall. ๐Ÿ˜›

Nice job on the Grecos, Gary. Valentine dinner: spaghetti with 2009 Dogajolo Toscano (Carpineto). Lean, true-to-type. Limited excitement, but salvaged by the food.

  • Shhhhh…don’t tell him that! I was gonna see if I could persuade him to sneak out a bottle of something sparkley.

All part of the plan Lisa S…….all part of my nefarious plan. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nice show. And…..for once I can actually get a hold of these wines here in Copenhagen. Does ANYBODY in here have some recommendations when it comes to Feudi di San Gregorio???

QOTD: Stayed home with my girlfriend and daugther. We had a 2007 Domaine du Petit Clos from Bourgueil. A decent effort.

Thanks for again a nice, passionate show.

QOTD. Drank no wine because of La Tempesta di Mare.

    Hi Gary,

Loved the show ! We drank Barbera d’Asti Terredavino 2007, loved it.
    Greetz !

  • Ryan Richards

Loved the episode, and honestly didn’t really mind 984 either.

QOTD: I came back from an overnight patrol and took a nap.

Great Show GV!! That last one wasn?t terrible, sometimes you try a new recipe and the diners, who love the standard dish, get disappointed. Thanks for doing it, even when you don?t have time!!

QOTD: Down here we are in pre-Carnaval festivities, Valentine?s day here in Brazil is 12 of June. Yesterday I had some Santa Dose (A Cachaรงa + Lemon + Honey bottled drink, delicious on the rocks) On Saturday we had the Baptism of my little nephew Joรฃo, afterwards the family gathered for lunch that my mother and her amazing cook Vรขnia did, a seafood dish + a Lamb Rib dish (Outstanding!), we had a variety of wines: A Sauvignon Gris from Chile, a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a Chardonnay from South Africa, and two Spanish reds, a Mencia varietal, and a Codice (Tempranillo). To finish up with the dessert, we had a Sauternes, delicious wine selection.

  • I don’t think last ep. was so bad, in fact I’ve enjoyed it more than the one with bourbon after the jets lost. Keep up the good work!
