Dateless on Valentine’s Day so hung out with the girls at a local wine bar. Had some great wine but unfortunately so much so that I can’t remember what they were now! The taxi ride home is a bit fuzzy as well…

Keep up the great work GV and I agree with several others here that you do not need to apologize. πŸ™‚

    Nice show again Gary!

QOTD: Had to work, but drunk a Pieropan – Ruberpan (Amarone style) after work. Good P/Q

My wife & I had a 2009 Bourgogne Aligote paired with salmon.

  • QOTD: My fiance and I drank Tzuba Chardonnay 2009 (from the Jerusalem Hills), with very yummy sushi and we watched the 1968 version of the Producers! It was a coincidence that Kenneth Mars passed away last night, sad.
I enjoyed this show…thank you for the more indepth background.

  • Great show. This show has me really looking forward to spring!

GOTD: My girlfriend and I had a bottle of NV Jose Dhondt after GV’s great review from a recent episode. It was excellent!

  • Good show, Gary! 984 is in the past and we’re back with the thunder!

QOTD: My girlfriend and I shared a bottle of LaMarca Prosecco after dinner.

  • Great show GV…way to return with the thunder.

Oddly no Vino for us last night. Had some beer, Sierra Nevada Glissade Bock, very tasty. The local Theater didn’t have anything Vino wise that peaked our interest.

    Keep it rolling!

Great show – like to see Greco getting some airtime – Feudi di San Gregorio are a great producer.

QOTD – Bottle of Vedett beer in the pub after running an event.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. Leatherpalate! πŸ˜‰

  • That’s the name. It was under $10/bottle and not the best chenin ever but still drinkable. First chenin I’ve ever had from South Africa.

double 90s?! What does it mean?!

I had the Saggi from longshadows with restaurantiness on the 13th, and then my girlfriend had a port waiting for me at home after work on the day proper.

QOTD – Had a big bottle of Westmalle Trappist Ale Tripel with my girlfriend, Abby

  • BAM!!! Nice to see the thunder back. Awesome episode! I love the comparison of the two producers and I am very excited to try this wine. I’m due for a wine run this weekend and these are on my list.

QOTD: Had a free pitcher of Guiness brought to our table so I shared that with my GF and my parents last night at dinner, no wine unfortunately.

I’ve been looking for that sort of lighter crisper viognier or chardonnay and according to the description, this seems to be it.
In my region the only Greco di Tufo available is the Mastroberrardino, anyone know if its any good?

For valentine’s day I wanted to try the 2009 burgundys which are supposed to be great, had the 2009 Nicolas Potel Vieilles vignes burgundy (20$) and it delivered in a big way.

I am now exceited about this vintage, granted I only tried one wine but this is looking good for the 2009 burgundys

  • We just did a head to head with these grecos for a glass pour and we decided on the Benito Ferrara, we liked the viscosity.

QOTD: Orin Swift Mercurey Head(Too Hot) with my wife at Boca in Cincy. Gary, you were there last year when the Jets played the Bengals in the playoffs, I came up to you and said go jets and you went crazy.

Wow, didn’t realize people hated episode 984 that much. It was definitely different but I completely disagree with it being that bad.
QOTD: Valentines day, homework and no wine

Here’s the approx 211th drug for gary:

QOTD: None, and I shared it with everyone!

  • loveya G, keep that under par eps πŸ˜€ Comments have actually increased lately. I think that is not a proof of under par eps, but the coming of the 1000 !!
I’m off to buy some Greco
QOTD:Don’t you watch my show? No didn’t drink on the chocolateTV show. But got a nice cool lager with the food being served (Swedish sausage casserole made by plastic son no 2) and it was with the love and the two remaining plastic sons still living at home.

  • wow night olws you lot are then

  • Just wait NWindianaDan. Keep your eyes open. That is all I can say. πŸ˜‰

  • Ok. I’ll bite. Plastic son? πŸ™‚

  • Wow, this was definitely the kind of show I like… and with one of my favorite white wines! Feudi di San Gregorio also produce a great Falanghina, another typical white varietal from Campania.

QOTD: worked until late… Venica & Venica, l’Adelchi, Ribolla Gialla ! delicious white wine from Friuli… their Sauvignon Blanc (Ronco delle Mele) is to die for

  • Back on track with this show GV. Nice work. A bit difficult to find any Greco down here in Tampa area, but I’ll keep looking.

QOTD: Had a bottle of NV Henri AbelΓ© Brut Millesime and the dregs of a bottle of ’88 Margaux left in the decanter by a neighboring table who thought we’d enjoy it more than the sink :-)…This was, of course, enjoyed with my lovely lady.

    Hi there,
this is my 1st entry ;-))
I had a very nice 2008 Verdejo from Rueda, Spain with my wife, and it was lovely – Jose Pariente by Victoria P. Afterwards a GAM 2006 of Mitolo, Australia. Shiaz usually isn’t my favourite varietal, but that one was absolutely spectacular. So much silkyness there!

Like the longer episodes much more, ’cause I love to know all about every wine you taste.

Nice show, like Italian wines pretty much (try Ribolla Gialla from Friaul). Keep going, RobJ.

  • QOTD: Riondo Pink Prosecco. Went great with the cajun catfish and glazed carrots. Actually, you should review this wine because it was amazing. I never drink Rose but I have told my gf we could do one a week from now on.

Also, I thought last week’s show was good. I wouldn’t want to watch a show like that every day but it’s nice to have some variety. (Speaking of variety, it’s been a while since you had a guest on?) I think the most important thing is to have fun doing the show; most people like to watch other people that are having fun.

Cheers honey! I generally manage to find fun date or no date. Life’s too short right? Gotta make the most of it!

  • Tom B

    QOTD..I was drinking Nyquil…blah!
Great show. Can really feel the energy from this one. I am going to try to find this varietal locally.

  • QOTD: 2008 Melange Noir, Waterbrook Colombia Valley. Hard to find any of the wines you taste πŸ™ in the middle of no where….way, way north in the mountains of Montana.

Fabulous evening with my husband and ‘Dinner with Schmucks’ …..Wine was better then the movie.

Since love means never having to say you’re sorry, then you must not love us GV. Really, one bad episode in 984, so what. Hope someone puts together a new highlight reel. Still will never forget deer with cherries on it. Now when I am at a tasting and say something like, smells like radishes, pickles, and bandaids, I can reference GV and people know what I am talking about. Greco de Tufo is always in our collection as just a good, inexpensive white. Had it for the first time on the cruise and buying since.

  • stepson but we are not married so I call them bonus sons or plastic sons. Bonus when they behave, plastic when I get tired of them

  • hmm, I may to re route the flight from Honolulu to Las Vegas then? Darn I had my sights on San Fran and drive north…..

Since the girl’s bday is feb 9th and my bday is march 18th, we decided not to ‘celebrate’ v-day. Everyday is v-day in my house though πŸ™‚

I whipped up a couple chocolate martinis when she got home from work, then she decided we were going for sushi. Unfortunately, that meant no wine, but a handful of Sapporo cans were enjoyed!

  • Anonymous

Apology accepted but if you were REALLY sincere, you would send all who comment on this episode a free bottle of your favorite wine (red or white, does not matter)! πŸ™‚

  • QOTD: Had Gaetano D’Aquino Asti Which was delicious, then a 2008 Ca’ del Baio Barbera d’Alba Paolina, and then The Rare Wine Co. Historic Series “New York” Malmsey Special Reserve.
    Had with my girlfriend Morgan.

QOTD: I was busy being mom-taxi. No wine.

A couple of years ago you introduced us to Greco di Tufo on WLTV. I’ve enjoyed more than one however there was one that was disappointing. It was very heavy on the rubber/oil. It tasted kind of like rubberbands.

  • QOTD: Sara Bee Moscato from Trader Joes with my GF. It had nice bubble action with a little tropical fruit flavors. Not bad for 5 bucks! Made some Cooks Illustrated grilled salmon with some of my mega lemon pasta. Was dying for a NZ Sauv Blanc or some other tasty white to go with it but I didn’t have one πŸ™

Nice show GV No Sorry’s Needed man. QOTD: Just stayed in and cooked dinner for the wife we had a 06 Renwood Pinot.

  • Man, Romans are actually Greeks from Troy …

  • Anonymous

Nice show, good to see the thunder return.
QOTD: Buccella Merlot with my fiancΓ©. Awesome, btw. Best domestic example of the varietal, IMHO. The wine was ok too.

  • This was the closest to Greco I could find here:

    Triade Bianco della Campania 2009
    FIANO (33 %), GRECO (33 %), FALANGHINA (33 %).
    10?/bottle.

  • Christiaan

    Right on!

Long, long~ time lurker… for about a year. GV, just wanted to say, do what you like and that’s that. Be your own and that’s what I like about you… I’m very appreciative for your wine reviews!
QODT: ’07 Calon Segur with wife and son (son had sparkling lemonade)… decanted 5 hours ’cause too young… had to have it since I needed to pair with chocolates!~

  • ALLAN

    “Gary…. I am your Father…”

May the force be strong with you, as we get even closer to the Death Star that is #1000
    πŸ™‚

  • ALLAN

You have always been my favourite “Plastic-Sweede” ;P

  • ALLAN

    LOL

  • Anonymous

I’ve been looking a for a new and interesting wine to try and I think that will be the next one. I have to say I really appreciate the fact that you get so into these unique wines which is imo what wine should be about.
Qotd: I had a couple beers (O’douls- not that impressive) and watch some online vids.
