    Dear Gary,

Don’t be too tough on yourself about the last show. I still appreciate you doing a show when you’re very busy.

    GREAT focused show today!

QOTD: Deutz NV with my gf.

Greco di Tufo, sommehing to try!

QOTD: CELIS WHITE with my wife.

  • Kind of a rare type of wine to my experience, buy I think that I’ve had at least one or two Greco Di Tufo. Good stuff. Great show. Important content. QOTD: Sadly, I worked yesterday from 1600 hrs on, so we did not have dinner together, nor wine. I believe that Concepciรณn and I are going out this evening, but we have not decided where yet, thus not decided on the wine either. I’m kind of craving for Pinot Noir.

  • Andre Aaspere

Very interesting wines were chosen for this show. Never heard about Greco Di Tufo. Thanks G !

QOTD: Yellow Tail Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009 South Eastern Australia by Casella Wines
with my lovely partner (she made surprising 3 course dinner for V day).

Dang, my ears are still ringing from the booming thunder Gary. I was on the phone with my wine shop before the show was over looking for Greco di Tufo. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any. One guy says he only gets it in the summer. Sounds right ๐Ÿ™

Gary as far as the color of the wine. I had a moment of genius as I was watching this episode. I can’t believe I hadn’t ever thought of it before. Why don’t you just put the glass in front of the Jets helmet. Hello it’s white and should show the color off really well no? Man, can’t believe I had never thought of it. It probably has been suggested before, but there it is. And I claim the patent anyway. You are my hero bud, keep up the great work.

QOTD. Black Box Cabernet. Mxcn blushes. Hey I’m poor and I had to work and got home late anywho ๐Ÿ™‚ Shared a pasta from Pizza Hut, cheesecake and the cab. Hope you had a great one with Lizzie.

c’mon G, I’ve got a basketball game to go to. I’ll email you an updated version of my schedule so you can record and publish your shows accordingly.

Anyone notice in the comments for V-Day how many of the Vayniac wives are prego? Oh my! Can you say “Population Explosion”. :O

    GV. Another great show.
    QOTD: Truth? Stone IPA

  • Anonymous

Better than a double rainbow hahha!

  • QOTD: Sexy Wine Bomb (because someone in the spouse’s office “returned the favor” of a recommendation and spouse felt compelled to buy). It’s meh. Much prefer something that isn’t so conflicted and knows who it is (the wine, not the spouse.)

’03 bordeaux with my wife and a movie

  • Have you ever had McKinley Springs Horse Heaven Hills? It’s a Washington State Chenin Blanc which I thought was very good. It was 16.99 by me in NY (I assuming you can get it 3-5 dollars cheaper by you.) Just a thought. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I had experimented with the Feudi Di San Gregorio last year…I really liked it. I haven’t had a Greco Di Tufo since, but I will keep an eye out.

QOTD: Just water, mostly. My better half has a cold and flu at the same time, so we cancelled dinner last night.

QOTD: I went out to dinner with my girlfriend last night but she had a headache so she had a coke for the caffeine. I bought a vin de pay consisting of 50% Ugni Blanc and 50% Corbodon that I intended to open but haven’t yet. I’m looking forward to it though.

QOTD: 2009 Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir with my girlfriend.

  • Now there we go! Great show, Gary! I work at an Italian restaurant in Evanston, IL, just north of Chicago, and we do not feature any Greco di Tufo, but now you’ve inspired me to change that! V-day? Worked, then some cocktails and beer with friends afterwards. Some Allegrini Palazzo della Torre tonight! Can’t afford the big Amarone’s, but this baby version’s quite tasty!

  • QOTD: Drinkning (drank) a local Nova Scotia barley wine called ‘Ol Fog Burner by Garrison Brewing. 10.4% alcohol ale oak aged in barrels for 11 months that previously held single-malt scotch. Big time brew!! A sipping drink…in the company of my bride of 17 years of course =)

  • The SAQ by Beaubien Metro has an awesome tasting bar. Have you been?

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Shelley and I enjoyed a 2008 Martin Codax Albarino from Spain, as well as a 2008 Balleto Estate Pinor Noir from California. We paired both of these with veal. I tried to find the Teroldego that you suggested a while back for the veal but came up empty handed so we went with this. The Abarino paired better, only because it was with a white sauce but the Pinot was ok.
What did YOU have for Valentines Day, Gary???

I love Greco Di Tufo and was first directed to it when looking to try some wines from my Dad’s home area of the Old Country. I currently have a bottle of ’04 Mastroberardino Nova Serra in my fridge. Actually one of my contributions to the 7/10 WL Bottle Party at the Roger Smith in NYC was the ’07 vintage of the Feudi Di San Gregorio which was enjoyed by all. I will have to give the Benito a try.

QOTD: Nothing to drink yesterday except water. Wife was not feeling well so we just stayed home and watched the DVR and had leftovers. However we had some sparkling Brachetto d’Acqui over the weekend while enjoying dark-chocolate covered strawberries

  • QOTD: ’08 Stag’s Leap Winery Chardonnay with wife at fine dining restaurant. Yummy.

Great show. Informative, useful, and tight.

QOTD – had a Sauternes with my wife – always a nice choice.

My last 03 Bordeaux from Saint Emillion did not turn out to well. What was yours? Was it OK?

Yellowtail is still a great value play. I don’t care what anybody says.

The restaurant Canoe in Atlanta has Greco di Tufo on the wine list. If anyone is that way say hello to Matt Bradford. He is in charge of the very nerdy wine list they have. The food is awesome as well.
Gary, they even have Chinon on the list!!!

  • Christopher Dickens

QOTD: drank Fat Tire Beer with my wife of almost 10 years. Went great with our heart shaped pizza! Interesting, vie been more intruigued wi white wines lately, this show and 986 has piqued my curiosity to explore.

GV I love Greco. A great everyday wine at these prices. But it is worth spending a little more for even more amazing wines. Ferrara makes a Vigna Ciconga Riserve which is fabulous. And Feudi di San Gregorio makes a single vineyard Cutizzi greco, as well as Capanaro (a blend of Greco and Fiano), which are both amazing and eye openers about the richness that Italian wines are bringing. And, at prices just a little more than the basic Ferrara and Feudi di San G. grecos, the Pietracupa and the Mastroberandino Nova Serra are both wonderful, I’d always pay the few dollars extra for those. Hopefully this terrific episode will inspire enough people to try the wonderful Campana whites so you and others can stock more of them. (Ps Now that I’ve bought as much as I can, I urge you to try the Colli di Lapio Fiano 2009: to me, at $20, the best QPR white at WL.)

  • Excellent episode. Both format and content.

Weird Valentines day. Had lunch with my wife, started with burgundian sparkling(on the house) then Riesling and third was Sauv blanc and semillon blend(both from the Okanagan Valley in BC). Dinner was with my Mother in law and had Boutari Red with my roast lamb.

Why so hard on ep. 984. It wasn’t so bad and you’ve had much, much worse. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That Greco has me thinking warmer weather and chicken/fish on the grill!!

QOTD: Italian food and wine w/the wife. Barbara d’Asti to be exact.

  • Anonymous

Had a bottle of Blaufrankisch at a restaurant on Cape Cod with my wife. It was the only interesting wine on their list in our price range (40 or under). It worked nicely with my tuna and my wife’s pheasnt.

  • Went to my local wine shop. Only Grecco Di Tufo was actually from 2005, said it was old vine, very golden in color, and similar to a Washington Semillon form Cave B, acid heavy probably due to the years past the vintage. Wish I had either of the 2 you tried, sounds a bit more my speed than what I received. Won’t call out the wine shop nor producer. Not bad but not past the 80’s in points.

  • Even after the 984 fiasco I went and found some Aglianico. For dinner on Valentines I drank a bottle of Taurasi from 2001 with my parents. Very nicely structured with some nice acid and tanin still hanging around

  • Hey Gary

That is a kick arseshow! Great to see you back in action and back doing the classic shows. I really, really, really am getting into Italian Whites and I love San Gregorio’s wines.

QOTD: It was casual dinner at home with my girlfriend the lovely Joey. We shared a bottle of ‘Philippe Portier Quincy 2009’; a tasty, great value wine; though nothing amasingly special.

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • Dear Gary,
I am proud to hear you love our winery and our wines. We have been following you for quite a long time now. I thank you for this wonderful video and for the energy you put in describing wines in general – an energy that is shared by your broad community.

  • Hi Antonio,

I’m a big fan of your wines as well and I would really love to come visiting your winery.
Lastly I tasted your Rubrato which I found great and really interesting from a price standpoint.

    Gabriele

  • Good to have you back to basics Gary, I’ve loved this show and even more as you tasted wines I’ve tasted in the past.

QOTD: unfortunately I couldn’t drink anything on Valentine’s day as the day after I had an exam in the hospital and they wanted me at empty stomach, can you believe it?
I’ll try to recover this during the week..

  • Hey Gary, No need to apologize. You showed us how you have to work to find the wines you like for your place. I have been watching your show for many years from Phuket Thailand knowing full well that I can never buy the wines you discuss becasue they are not available here in Thailand.

Keep up the great work and look forward to someday meeting you. You are always welcome in the Land of One Thousand smiles.

    Peter

  • Valentines day: amazing lunch date with my bride and then a great evening with the whole family.
