Line of the day – ‘I start making kangaroo references that piss off Australia.’

Always love these on location episodes although could’ve done with Mott at the beginning when the light wasn’t right, GV looked like he was in a shadow.

Congratulations G.W. and WLTV – have been following for about 4 years, loving every minute! I only hope that you (and us, vayniacs) will get a chance, in the future, to look back on this revolution in food and wine, which has been going on since at least the 80’s, and to think of the part we played in it (As many others, WLTV have inspired me and my friends to start our own wine-video-blog, the first in Denmark: winefactory.dk). All over the world millions of people are slowly beginning to consume better and better quality products – and what can be a better cause than that!
QOTD: SO many spring to mind (J. Davies, Rocketboom, Jancis R., J. Simonetti-Bryan, WS Top 100, Bubbles in the snow, #151, #403, #463, #530 (!!), #692(!!!)), but for the most interesting and perhaps most important show: #628-629 with Nicolas Joly! 😀

  • Gary (and fellow fans),
I’m 38. Is it too late to become a wine “expert?” I enjoy wine, but don’t consider my palette “refined” or even “practiced.” But I’m very interested in immersing myself in the culture, and figuring out somehow to make a living from it. What route should someone with a limited background at my age take, if any?

Congrats Gary, and thanks for sticking with us! My favorite moment definitely has to be episode 148. When you started eating the white pepper, the jalapeno, the dirt, etc. etc. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched.

This is definitely a CLASSIC!!!!!!!! 😉

Great episode! And thank you for 5 years. I remember catching on at episode 6, then watching episodes 1 through 5 that same day. With 989 eps under my belt it is hard to get one favorite WLTV moment. Maybe the Gretsky episode but there are others that I can easily favorite too (training your palate, mentioning a happy BD to me). I will probably think of a few more after I hit the enter key.

Congrats Gary!! I’ve been watching for years and this is my first time posting a comment, I want to thank you, your insight has been very helpful in my quest to learn about wines and your show has also been quite entertaining. Cheers!!!

  • Great show Gary!
    QOTD: episode 500 “Boo Niners!”

  • Todd

Congratulations GV! 5 years and onto the 10 episode countdown to 1000! I have only been watching for a little over a year, but I have back logged many episodes. You have been a big influence on my approach to wine and it has helped me tremendously, I am a total wine nerd now and am constantly learning and tasting, thank you.
QOTD: #182 is so great, also any show your dad is a guest or you visit a cellar.
    Keep it up GV!

Congrats Gary and thanks for all your insight. I’ve been watching for years and this is my first time leaving a comment. I really like the fact that you have taken the time to educate people about Portuguese reds (My favorite) and other wines that are not really all that popular but are very good wines and good value. Keep up the good work buddy thanks.

you’re a youngster in the wine world

Great show, this is where you shine best GV.
QOTD: there have been many great shows but I’ll say this one because of the content!

  • Thanks, castello. But how/where do I get started on a “proper” education?

  • Thanks for sticking with it Gary. Look forward to five more years.

QOTD: The Kermit Lynch double-feature was pretty fantastic

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Why am I not receiving emails about the show being posted? 🙁

Congrats on the 5th year of the show! I can see this going another fiver, stronger than ever!

  • I guess there are all kinds of courses and event you can go to. Even a sommelier education maybe. Searc for some sort of wine society in your area.

I’m 4 years late and trying to catch up!! Congrats!! That Pinot has got me interested. Too bad its out of stock. I’ll try to obtain it elsewhere.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Yeah…tell me about!

  • Congratulations Gary, how time flies – good thing we’ve not aged a bit.
I have found La Follette, Blackbird and some other exciting boutique vintners on http://www.taigan.com

    – have you seen this before?

  • Congrats on the 5 year anniv. hopefully for your audience, we will get 5 more!!
QOTD: special episodes with your dad, Sasha…..love him!!!

  • Congrats on 5-years to Gary, Mott, KMurph, and the whole crew over there!

QOTD: I think all of us could go on for an hour or so about all our favorite moments. I love Sasha and Couch eps in addition to Lynch and some of the other industry people. Winecrazy and SchneiderMike represented the Vayniacs well too. As a craft beer advocate, I will have to second #519(lambics and wild ales) in addition to the doubleheader from Bill Covaleski of Victory.

  • QOTD: Episode 182, and the special guest episodes. Gary, you have put your signature on the wine world, that is for sure. I can’t wait to see where the next five years takes you!! Congrats, and CHEERS!!!!

  • I Have seen it before and I just… Had the La Follette 2008 Sonoma Coast Pinot!~ FANTASTIC!

  • Tom

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WLTV!!!

Gary, don’t you even think about quitting on us now. With soo many new wines coming out each year- we need you now more than ever!!! Best parts of this ep. were- ” It’s like when you shoot an opossum witha bb gun and throw it on the grill.” and the Mr. Perfect ringtone.

QOTD: So many great moments on WLTV that I can’t think of just one. BUT one of the funniest things I have ever seen is when Gary was on Conan and they were eating dirt. There was a moment where it was like they were challenging eachother to stuff the most into their mouths. You could tell it just happened in the moment and was priceless!!

  • ALLAN

You’re quite awesome as well castello, Cheers! 🙂

  • ALLAN

My favourite episode, you’ve yet to do, will be, The Oz Clarke Special………… 🙂

QOTD: When you asked for pics of people with the wrist bands you used to give out. Then made a montage of all the pictures. Somehow seeing my picture made it exciting.

  • Anonymous

    Happy five years, man.
I came into the Vayner-nation late in the game, but I appreciate what you do.

Thanks for hooking up the tasting room deal too. I look forward to expanding my palate 🙂

QOTD: Favorite momentS are when GV says something outrageous that sends me into a great belly laugh 😀

  • Forgot to answer the QOTD:”
Episodes with Laura Catena and “Moms who need wine” are the ones I remember best. So there you have it: more female guests please! 🙂

  • Congrats on FIVE YEARS!! I hope you continue I really enjoy watching your show!!

QOTD: Has to be a tie between the Great One Wayne Greztky and Jim Cramer!

  • DR

I have to wonder if you would like the La Follette at temps above cellar temp (e.g. your usual tasting environment). I can’t think of any Pinot at 15% aren’t hot; though the cool temperatures will certainly temper the apparent alcohol

Happy 5 year anniversary! I’m glad you decided to go on because I just learned about your show a few months ago and I look forward to hearing more.

QOTD A few weeks ago you were describing a wine and when you gave it a “sniffy sniff” you were reminded of being a ninja turtle and taking the cover off of a sewer only to go on a short time later to describe a “barnyard” sort of smell only to top it off with being in a barnyard and having a rhino fart on you. Rhino fart! Really? Now that’s good stuff!!!

  • Alex Truelove

Too hard to pick a favorite moment…still have 200 episodes to catch up on. BIG fan of this episode, though! Happy 5th.

  • Congratulations for 5 years of unbelievable success!! I can’t even imagine how many people you have helped to become more educated about wines (myself included), and you’ve truly been a huge part of a revolution in the wine world. Many kudos!

I’ve got a couple of Reislings from 1981 and am afraid to open them. I bought them over in Spain when I was there in 1981 and have been sitting on them since. Waiting for that special occasion I guess. 🙂 I’m glad to hear you did well with yours.
