EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

Agreed, I commented on the music over on the grape comments. Reminds me of a job training video soundtrack from the 80’s, or an infomercial from the 80’s or something

    What the puck? It’s gone!

Schwartzel on the last four holes was “Redonkulous”. The network should have played that up more, but noooooooooo, it had to be all about Tiger! 😛

The Schwartzel last four birdies was a charge from yesteryear. 😉

Ah ha!!!…..so we found the missing link!…….When’s the next episode Bozo?

  • Why make a course harder when any normal golfer couldn’t shot 120 even with luck. Those guys are good and they have the good stuff. No, let them play with smaller drivers and harder balls, skip the first cut and then we’ll see. Perfect weather makes an impact to.

  • Luckily for me it was Swedish public service that aired the golf. No commercials and actually more players shown then usual. Tiger is still to often on the screen, even when he is not in contention. Feel sorry for Adam Scott this was his big chance to win a major and then this South African does that. But 4 straight birdies 15-18 is really, really good. It was good golf from everyone except Rory, hope he doesn’t crack completely by this.

QOTD … will today be the day for ep 1001?

No, Gary’s on his world wind book tour, plus he has some catching up to do with all his other projects. I’d say mid May…..

  • I vote “No Way Jose.”

  • That’s better.

I’m hoping to see alot of this Friday night.

  • It was fun to watch. I only watch one golf tournament all year and it’s the Masters. Every time Tiger missed a 2 ft putt I would raise a glass of Dom with my left hand, do his “Tiger Pump” with my right fist and yell hip hip hooray! He is such a punk.

Cheers to Charl with a nice SA Chenin Blanc!

  • Agree but it’s early.

  • John__J

I’m agreeing with Dominus on that one

Hey Gary, Love your show and your book! I gave your book, Crush It! to my 18 year old son to read for promoting his band, SleepLong. He loves it! He is doing an interview on the local radio station tonight and gave your book a plug. You should listen to it! http://www.kink.fm/pages/9598717.php

You can find the band and the full album on Facebook @SleepLong

Keep up the good work and thanks for everything!

  • Hope you’re right. They spanked us a couple times this year.

No “daily” grape today. Anyone want to start a spreadsheet where it lives up to its name?

  • Plus no “daily” grape. Talk about shutout for the night. 🙁

  • Not tonight my friends.

  • Ok peeps. What are we drinking on a Monday night? Surprised of the sparse banter on actual wine “over there.” It’s all about apps, what works, what doesn’t but I want to know what everyone’s drinking, any food pairings we should try, new cheeses, frequent any wine tastings/dinners, wine news, i.e. ’09 or ’10 Bordeaux futures. We can go out on a limb and pick our fav hockey teams if that floats your boat.

For me, I had the ’09 A to Z Pinot Gris which wasn’t bad, not great. Citrus flavors, nice acidity with a long finish while snacking on cheese. For dinner, I had this really nice Oregon pinot. http://www.oregonpinotnoir.com/Detail.bok?no=2753 I did not pay 60 bones for this for sure. It was one of the two bottles of the 50 bone monthly wine club. Maybe he likes me. 😉

    Tell me what you’re drinking.

    Cheers!

    GO CAPS!!

Ok, I opened a 2007 Cooper’s Creek Hawkes Bay Pinot Noir NZ. A bit of the “funk” on the first wiff and then some fine red fruit comes through. I kind of like the “funk”, has that burgundian feel to the nose. The initial taste was mighty nice, strawberry and raspberries, smooth through the mid palate and light on the tannins. All and all a nice bottle of wine, I paired it with Jimmy John’s #11 (turkey, ham, & bacon w/provolone). Actually it worked very well together. Maybe it was the turkey and ham that worked well with the pinot.

I give it an 88+ for the Pinot Noir and a 90 for the #11. 😉

  • Went low end tonight and paid for it. 2008 Chiusa Grande Trebbiano d’Abruzzo with herbed chicken. I think the wife picked it up at Trader Joe’s – wanted to try an Italian organic white. We won’t pick it up again. The remaining half bottle may be re-purposed as cooking wine tomorrow.

Just about to pop a Charles Krug 2007 Cab …. should be interesting.

  • John__J

Gonna go with a no frills Falanghina. Haven’t had one in quite a while and I’m in the mood for something easy, or not something I feel the need to mull over or whatever

  • John__J

Cool, I’ve been exploring more NZ pinot’s lately. Just got one from Tasmania recently as well, I’m pretty psyched to try (I know that’s not NZ).

I dig the funk on pinot’s too.

  • John__J

Hey Dom, if you can get your hands on any Le Cadeau pinot’s out of Willamette right now I def recommend them. They only do Pinot’s, they do 4 single vineyards-Cote Est, Equinoxe, Rocheaux, and Diversite. Even though they’re all very close together their really quite different and really good (and easily proving to all the naysayers that we are capable of terroir). Not too full bodied, good with food, and good balance of earth or mineral depending on the wine without the fruit getting too gloppy. They also make 2nd label pinot’s under the names Aubichon and Jolete, which are good values. And of course 08 Willamette is a year to get for pinot if you still can.

good way to put your own plug in for the band. plug plug plug …. as they say … whatever.

Hey all. This is my first comment and I have to say I love the show and literally have been trying to watch every episode for the last 2 weeks. I just got into wine and I am trying to read anything and everything about it. I cook for a living and recently started getting into food pairings and the way wine interacts with food. If anyone can throw out some suggestions for bottles it would be awesome. As of now I enjoy alot of fruit and am not a huge fan of dryer style wines. thanks and cheers.

  • but pairing with food might require “dryer” types of wine.

  • Tasmania, make really good whites too. Coombend Sauvigon Blanc is one of the best I’ve had.

  • Comtes d’Isenbourg Riesling Grand Cru Schoenenbourg Riesling 2005 and that baby had acid and tropical fruit in a hysterical mix. Had it with poached salmon and boild potatoes. Yum.

  • to confirm that it its every other day grape or ..?

I couldn’t help but notice today when checking D. Grape for a new episode that the last one they posted already has 1100 comments whereas this episode has been up nearly a month and is just now approaching 800. I’m assuming a 100 of those are us coming back and posting on here. I have no opinion regarding this, it’s just something I noticed.

  • John__J

After waiting for years and testifying for it in Annapolis for the past 2, I was thrilled to find out today that Wine Shipping in Maryland has finally been passed and will be effective beginning July 1st.

  • There’s alot of double posting but my question is, how many are actually about wine “over there.” Just saying.

Plus NY Pete has been slacking with no QOTD and there has not been a show for how long? One month? Take DG away for a month and take a guess how many comments there will be?

    Go Caps!

  • Still a long way to go but yes, a start. I live in MD and belong to numerous groups and this backwards/archaic state has begun to see the light.

Eventually, EVERY state will have direct shipping since it is unconstitutional.

    IMHO

  • Funny yet interesting. 🙂

Tighty whities prefer those stuffy, high end wines? Check!

  • They also make some kick-ass sparkling/champagne wines too.

  • Nice NWID. I will need to find some of that juice. Thanx

  • Here’s a great Falanghina. At my local wine shop they call this “liquid crack.”

CANTINA DEL TABURNO FALANGHINA 2009, ITALY
Crisp and fruity, this is an absolutely delightful wine! The falanghina grape can be tasted in perfect purity, with notes of almond blossom, lemon, and fresh nectarine. Perfect for light meals, appetizers, and just by the glass, this is a wine that will appeal to everyone! 100% Stainless. ON SALE – $ 18.98

  • I will definitely be on the lookout for these wines. You are from the Portland area? I visited your fine city about five years ago and fell in love with the Pacific NW. I stayed at the Heathman Hotel and had dinner with the owner of the Oregon Pinot Noir Club, Bob Wolfe to which I’m a member. Great guy and gets his hands on some of the esoteric, small wineries in Willamette.

    Thanks for the info.

  • My man, let us know what you find.

  • Nice review Col. I do a grab bag myself at times. That’s what it’s all about, expanding the palate and trying something different. Kudos to you and the missus.

  • John__J

Perhaps one of us or Cellarrat or NWIndiana or whoever the hell gets in 1st that day should do it.
Yeah I’ve been guilty of the double post myself

  • John__J

    Agreed IMHO as well.
