EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

  • Can’t help to doublepost, it’s another one of the many bugs.

I’m actually in MD too Dom and currently the guy behind the wine program up at Antrim.
( I remember you mentioning on here that you had been there before in the past, before I started there.)
No I know about Le Cadeau cuz we carry their wines and we did a wine dinner with Tom Mortimer (the owner) here a couple months back. Noble Vintner is the distributor that carries them and I’m good friends with the rep, I could find out what stores are carrying Le Cadeau if interested. Although most good wine shops will already be carrying things from their Noble’s portfolio so getting a hold of any if you want should be pretty easy.
Next wine dinner we’re doing is on May 5th for Chateau Ste. Michelle & Eroica, with their head winemaker Bob Bertheau and even Dr. Loosen himself coming up to present the wines btw.

  • John__J

cool I’ll be on the lookout for it, thanks

  • John__J

You sold me. What’s the name of that wine shop? Being a fellow Marylander, there’s a good chance it’s in driving distance for me.

I rarely get top ten over there. The e-mail notification system must work a little differently because often time I will get them from 7-10 at night. Most of the time I watch the episodes at work (when I have time), often the next day. And I agree whole heartedly, the wine talk is much scarcer over there than it used to be here. Granted, I do not do nearly as much scrolling through comments over there, but from what I have seen its just people posting and answering the QOTD.

I think the mobile app has really boosted both viewers and comment numbers over there. But alas, the content seems severely lacking compared to the lengthy discussions/debates that used to occur here. I even miss the “arguments” or whatever you would like to call them that I got into with a few of the posters. At least they were entertaining. I feel like I am shouting into a sea of voices and only getting marginal returns on my comments. To be fair, I have not gone into nearly as much detail breaking down the episodes or answering the QOTD (or discussing wine) for the aforementioned reason.

The Charles Krug 07 Cab was easy to drink right off the bat. If you let it open up a bit it really rounds out into a nice bottle of cab. Fruit and tannins are both in check and at $21 I will buy some more. 88-89 points on my cab scale. The second half of the bottle, the next day, was better than the first.

TTF … Time to start rating DG … episode #19 ….. I’ll use the wine scale and how excited I would be go out and buy that wine and a price point for reference.

86-87 points. GV looked exhausted with hints of energy. kinda like he had to pump out the show or face a DG revolt. Not a bad episode but not enough thunder for me to go buy it at $35 …. Just playing around GV, keeping myself entertained over here at WLTV

Also, as to the DG comment count. If it’s not more than 4 complete sentences is it really a comment to count???? Thoughts????

It is only a matter of time. As soon as the lobbyists figure out how to get their cut then hopefully things will be sped along. The beer lobbyists (mostly from the big three) are the ones who push the big bucks into the legislature restricting reconstruction of the 3 tier system. Craft beer and other importers can barley get their stuff on shelves, let along try and push distribution in the lower 48. I am sure I do not have to go into how much of a disparity there is between beer revenue and advertising in this country verses wine and spirits. We (wine drinkers) are a drop in the swimming pool, but people are starting to realize that it is well within their rights to get equal selection in delicious beverages fortunately.

TTF …. The comments section here just has a different vibe or is just me ????

While it is fresh on my memory I have to report on a German Riesling I had last night. For the life of me I cannot remember the producer (will post later). Opened up with a beautiful white flower (honeysuckle) nose with hints of pear apple cider and a little tropical fruit (pineapple guava). The honeysuckle and pear/apple combo transitioned nicely to the front end, middle had wonderful baked apple and a firm minerality and nice acid. Finished VERY dry with some of that apple/pineapple minerality lingering on for a respectable amount of time. 90+, and at 14.99 a steal!! TTF!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mosel? Rheingau?

  • Anonymous

Big fan of Riesling. Post the producer. Thanks.

  • NY Pete

    QOTD … Rangers or Caps

  • QOTD… Do you mean game 1 or the series? Slight edge to NYR on the basis of goaltending. Do you think either one will make it past the next round?

  • NY Pete

    the series.

I like the Caps chances of making some noise this year.

  • Watching it now, bothersome but have to go with Caps.

GV did not show up again over at DG. Better start calling it WG.

  • Totally different.

  • Double posting is a system problem. It dupes it for no reason.

  • NY Pete

QOTD … in what state of this great union will the elf be pimping his book?

  • Anonymous

    First “DG” show I liked.

Show Rating was 89+…. GV was more relaxed today and pumping out some very good info. That alone sent the episode into the low 90’s. However the backdrop was too busy/distracting and the “zoom” function was out of focus & awkward.

Now if he could only make it daily like the name say’s …. Nice job thou GV!!!

  • Anonymous

    producer ???

  • LMAO!!!!! I just heard “Florida” Oops, wrong, that’s to give a speech. Oh heck, I’ll go with Florida, kill two birds with one stone. 🙂

My Caps almost gave me a heart attack last night. I’ll be there Friday.

    Cheers!

  • Agree tennispro, much more like “old times.” Wines were solid along with “plear” notes, QOTD was good and his sports rant. The GV we know and love.

  • Another shoutout again today Dave, I mean Dan! 😉

  • Anonymous

I don’t know what to do with 2 “Shoutouts”? I think he is just getting tired of seeing me complaining and he figures that if he shouts out then I will stop. 😛

  • Anonymous

Just because the two wines were likable? He has had some descent shows. Not all, but some. I also have been hard on him because it is not WLTV, but it is getting better. 😉

You know we are just like him with his tougher scoring of wines, we are tougher critics on DG. 🙂

  • Anonymous

Australian? New Zealand? See I can do it too! 😛

  • Anonymous

Different, but kinda the same. 🙂

  • NY Pete

maybe I should have watched ep 20 before I busted his chops on wine and web tonight … 🙂

  • Anonymous

And I am sure that him giving you two shout outs in about three episodes did not hurt either 😉

  • Anonymous

Georgia, I have no idea why but that is where he will be.

  • I find it surprising, no, shocking, that many of the responses to GV’s question today re: word association for “Alsace” and the comments are “I have no clue” or “I have never tried them.”

    Huh?

    Here’s one:

    Name withheld.

    QOTD: I haven’t a clue.

    Safe travels!

Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler, Mosel, 2009 Dry Riesling was the Producer of that Riesling I could not remember. Got it at Total Wine and More; along with a killer Scotch that apparently was hand picked by Glenlivet specifically for Total Wine. 22yr scotch from Glenlivet for 80 bones is hard to come by.

  • Anonymous

Are you keeping track Cr5? I’m flattered. 😉

  • Anonymous

And why should you be surprised? He is constantly pushing the CKC’s, which is fine, but not a lot of experience with wine.

  • Anonymous

Caro Dorum -Seleccion Especial 2005 …. 92 points.

Dark purple, sweet silky tannins, nice weight. Glad I have 5 more ….. TTF – what Spanish wines do you recommend ???

Go Sharks !!! Season Ticket Holder in Year 1 when I lived in the South Bay Area.
You Gotta Love a Great Hockey Game !!!!

  • QOTD: How many times can one say I’m sorry?
Dont get me wrong. I like WLTV and enjoy DG, i have huge respect for Gary’s work and I have no pronblems with plattforms since I watch on a computer, and my android smartphone works really good with the webcontet too.
But Gary being an author that preach focus and that social is very important. Is there a line somewhere when all the sorry actually hurt the brand/business?

  • no, not if we are talking german riesling 🙂

  • Talking double posts, I saw the same comment 10 times today!!!

  • Good question AndersN. I believe IMHO that it can hurt a business if it happens too often but with GV it’s his nature. He takes this venue (WL and DG) very personal and wants to do well by everyone so the reason we hear it often. Just my two cents.

  • NY Pete

TGIF … here comes the weekend!

  • Thanks Cubatabaco Ray for the support over there. I am spitting nails right now. One thing really bothers me and that is being accused publicly of something totally the opposite of my view. I could have gone on and on and chopped up his response to pieces but felt it was not warranted on a public forum. Oh well, I will watch the episodes but I’m done with comments on DG until I settle down.

Home Sweet Home on WL. 🙂

    Cheers!

P.S. Where’s Mott damnit!!! Corked wine also bothers me. 🙂

  • Amen my man. Walking down the street in a few hours with my jersey on to “rock the red.” Are you doing anything exciting?

BRING BACK THE THUNDER SHOW!!!! Or Bring some THUNDER to the DG! Where’s the fun gone?

  • philoxera

Each day I visit this desolate place…no new episodes…no thunder…no weather at all!…Gone is the Vaynerboard with it’s subliminal messages to the wine loving aliens…I feel so lost and abandoned!…the horror…ther horror of it all!

  • Grabbed a screw cap Puyckeric from the rack tonight. A Sauvignon 2009. 5 ?. Really nice yellow color. Slight smell of white peach, hay, lemon zest and some grape. Taste is very fresh with pear and peach up front, followed by a high acid flavour green grass and more peach and ended with a a semi long finish of white pepper and distinct lime. Very fresh all the way, one focus. Light in every aspect but not watery. Best 5? wine I’ve had in months. Actually bought in Puycheric last september. It’s Friday and time to forget the toil of the last 5 days and just rest. I think I’ll borrow down in my lazy couch.

  • Nature, yep. But markets destroy nature all the time, even the forces of nature 🙂 But wth, it’s friday and let’s enjoy life a bit. Cheers.

  • NY Pete

Watching my soon to be 2 year old granddaughter tomorrow. I’m stoked! Sunday, I’m plotting a wine run to pick up numerous pending bottles. Go Caps!
