EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

Game of Thrones must be something that is on your side of the pond. πŸ™

  • Thanks. Not too bad if I say so myself. I would have played with George Brett (last yr I believe) and Paul Splittorff so I’m dating myself. I actually have Brett’s rookie baseball card as a keepsake.

My last game was a no-hitter (5 total in HS), struck out 17 out of a possible 21 though the O’s, Senators, Mets and Royals were in attendance the week prior where I did not fare as well. The mound was a mess yet I stroked one off the 365 foot sign. Oh well. It’s only high school. Alot of players did well. Now the 64k dollar question as to “why” I didn’t go farther will take some major analysis and a nice magnum of Pommery Louise to resolve that one.

    Cheers!

P.S. First off, on the way to tryouts a friend of mine thought he had to go by this girl’s house to show off and ended up turning the car over where he broke his arm and I saved him from the wreckage. Of course, the beginning of wrecking my chance to even find out if I was MLB material.

    Barbra Eden! Mmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜‰

  • Agree NWID. Being the cynical one, I thought it was awfully selfish of him to leave his family in such disarray by ripping out their hearts.

That Soter pinot is absolutely delish. I will finish it up tonight.

  • That’s what I call a major kick-ass review. Sorry for the swear word but it’s appropriate at this time. Very well done and I, too, have never had a Trousseau Gris though now, I will try my darndest to find it.

You live in MD? I may have asked “over there” so I apologize if I have and forgot.

I live in Rockville, work in DC so I have my wine shipped to work and tote it home. MD will always have some restrictions with their shipping laws but it is a start. I do believe one day every state will be able to ship since the Supreme Court will decide it’s unconstitutional. Case closed.

  • I’m telling you. We need a group hug/winefest. Truly amazing. πŸ™‚

  • To Kalon is THE cab parcel. Top notch, first class. Doesn’t get much better than that.

  • SOB! You lucky dog! Tweet us, link us up, anything!

    Can’t wait.

  • OK, these little snippets are getting a little bit “Twilight Zone” right now. Do do do do . . .

I, too, have a few bottles of KB and Sea Smoke. How gorgeous is the Sea Smoke label and the pinot in those bottles? Quick story: I’m a big fan of Flowers Pinot and at T’giving there are maybe two people who enjoy wine, myself and one other guy. I made it an annual event except last year I forgot to order some more and took with me the Kosta-Browne. Ugly, cartoonish label so he thought what the heck is this? Well, the smile that came over his face after he tasted it was epic as Charlie Sheen would say. Needless to say, we wiped out that bad boy. It is stellar pinot. Not bad for California. πŸ™‚

    She found out clams. πŸ™‚

Thanks for the thoughts. Tough day yesterday for everyone there, esp the family.

  • Castle Rock does a nice job for their price point.

  • Clams are very “nutritional.” πŸ™‚

  • Though it’s not RRV, anyone tried this Chard? Being a fan of Kistler got me into thinking this might be pretty good. Label is pretty much the same so the wine should be the same correct? πŸ™‚

  • QOTD: 1) Popeye (hands down) 2) Roadrunner (I owned one) and 3) Bugs
    QOTD 1a: Soter Pinot http://www.oregonpinotnoir.com/Detail.bok?no=2147

  • Actually, House is my favorite. I was replying to you and Tennispro jumped in there with Damages. πŸ™‚ It’s OK. He’s still a good egg.

  • Ditto! Hilarious!

  • Great story, Dom.
The Sea Smoke label is my favorite. Understated elegance! I finally made it on their list.. …was on the waiting list for 1-1/2 yrs.

John Farrin brought a bottle of KB to Northern Ca Vayniak get together last January (in Palo Alto).. I’ve wanted to try KB for a couple of yrs and it did live up to my expectations!

Re Flowers.. I went to a tasting of the 2007 or 08 PN and chards about 1-1/2 yrs ago and was not impressed.. Maybe it was just the vintage? It’s very popular though.

I’m also a huge fan of Sojourn. Have you ever had Sojourn Pinot Noir? Really boring label though.. worse than KB. Great wine!

I like clams. I hear they are nutritional.

  • I’ve had the O8 Pahlmeyer Chard, but not the 09.
Very good, but I’ve had as good for less $$. The style is not as “big” as Kistler from what I recall.

I LOVE the Pahlmeyer red blend (bordeaux-type blend).. One of my most favorite red wines.

  • John__J

Hey Jon! Nice seeing you over here on the other side

  • John__J

Sorry to hear about your loss Dom.

  • Another Twilight Zone moment. πŸ˜‰

What it would be like to meet you . . . like that first sip of Champagne. Tingly . . .

  • This is the “right” site. It’s been bookmarked for years now. πŸ˜‰

  • John__J

Dont worry about the swearing, I’m far from a stranger to that myself.

Yeah you’ve asked me that before, I think this might be the 3rd time lol, no worries. Yeah I’m in Baltimore and I’m wine director up at Antrim 1844. I remember a long time ago your mentioning you’d been there, but before I worked there.

I couldn’t agree with you more about the shipping laws, but its passing was a great step in the right direction. Hopefully it will continue to be improved upon.

You can get the Trousseau Gris through Fannuchi vineyards. Apparently outside of a few random vines planted amongst some zin, etc. that ends up as a minor blender or in cheap field blends, there’s only a 10 acre plot up in Russian River and Fannuchi owns all of it. I was looking for more Trousseau Gris wines online and found 2 more, one is a late harvest, but both of them are sourced from Fannuchi’s 10 acre plot, or sold to them by Fannuchi or whatever. So not a wine you see every day. I’ve had the red Trousseau out of the Jura region, really earthy wine from what I remember.

  • Thanks John_J

Tough day, better now with you guys.

  • Just hit the recycle bin.

  • I apologize. That’s what happens in old age. Antrim 1844, what a great place. I recommend it to all my friends. It is so memorable in fact, I have a personal menu framed on my kitchen wall.

They had a wine/cheese evening tasting before dinner in the dining room which was very nice. Bordeaux was the feature varietal that night.

I’m a Civil War buff too which make your location easy for an excursion into Emmitsburg and Gettysburg. It’s a small world.

Congrats on that gig. That’s the job I want. πŸ™‚

  • Popeye! I loved Olive Oly! Did you see Popeye movie in 1980 with Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall?? Double feature with Alien. OK.. now I’m dating myself. Yikes.

  • Wilson!! Perfect compliment to House. I cried during last season (or season before last?) episode where he lost his girlfriend, Amber (a.k.a. cutthroat bitch). So sad.

  • No, it’s HBO new super duper , I have to to sort of over the net kind of thingy to get it

    DANG IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ™

I really thought we were going to pull this out! πŸ™

  • I love you guys! hahaha good stuff πŸ™‚ Hope you’re all drinking well πŸ™‚

  • Of course I did! I actually collect antique memorabilia of Popeye and Olive Oyl. Talk about geeky.

I also collect antique corkscrews so I guess it’s not too bad. πŸ˜‰

  • We sure do try. πŸ˜‰

  • It was sad. Wilson is what I would attain to be in this world. Good guy, handsome, tons of cash. He’s a catch.

  • Sorry my man. πŸ™ Damn Flyers won too. Maybe the Habs and Lightning can win tonight.

  • John__J

Thanks Dom, I’ve been there a year now. I can’t think of a better cellar in MD to work in. I’ll have to get you down in the cellar to check it out if you haven’t seen it next time you make it up. (You can have dinner down there too.)

  • John__J

and it happened again. guess I’ll leave and try again later. you’re the best disqus.

  • John_J, Try using Firefox web browser instead of IE

  • Hahaha! Yes indeed!

  • I’m sorry.

  • Hi Dom (Tennispro, anyone else ):

A couple of pages back in the comments we talked about champagne to celebrate reaching 1,000 comments.. So now I’m in the mood for bubbles!

My question for you guys: Am I drinking alone?

We must toast the royal couple on Friday, too. Somehow I doubt that you are as excited about this as I am. πŸ™‚

On another note, I opened a fantastic bottle of zin last night… Carlisle Sonoma County 2009… This is structured and elegant (not jammy) and just delicious. The Carlisle Dry Creek Zin is supposed to be even better. I have an unopened bottle of it as well. You must try it, if you can find it.

Dom, I found the ’06 Haywood zin you mentioned last week.. I hope to try it soon. Thx.

    Ciao for now!
    Lisa

  • What about Palmer MillΓ©sime Brut 2005. I think I have that on friday with the fish

Friday is a big day and will be watching it live …. just to say I did. I love Grand Slam tennis live, hate it recorded. I just feel I missed out.

Friday I will find some Champagne to drink and report back πŸ˜‰ If you have a suggestion I’m in. πŸ˜‰

  • AndersN: Yes! Pop, pour, and post notes by Friday-ish, OK? Cheers!
