EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

  • I just talked my mom and aunt into a bottle of Prosecco for dinner. They loved it. I don’t like reds and a few white. Sparkling are my favorites. Following by Chenin Blancs and Gewerz. Oh it’s almost summer so the Vinho Verde will be out soon. 🙂

  • Oh, and for those who wanted to see the banana bread come out.

Well, sorta. I had a box of trader joes pumpkin mix in the house so I modified it and add 3 bananas. It came out awesome. 🙂

I love banana bread and this just looks delish! Great job Melba! 😉

    Pommery Royal Brut Tasting Notes:

On an overcast day here in NWIndiana temps in the low to mid 50’s more reminiscent of Autumn than Spring, even though the grass is green and the flowers are in bloom, what better day to try this fine champagne.

The look is pleasing to the eye, a pale yellow with a good frothy foam. At first whiff the aromas are clean and crisp and the bubbles are tickling my nose. It has been awhile since I had a champagne and one of the better ones I have had I’m sure. I am catching hints of green apple, fresh flower blossoms and a subtle hint of lemon peel. Very nice and pleasing nose.

Let’s give this puppy a whirl. The taste is just amazing, bright, clean, and dry but very even across the palate. Lemon is showing its self and that definite minerality which I like. The flavors dance across my palate lingering long and consistent. The citrus flavors last good and long. Now I remember why I liked Champagne so much and I won’t wait so long for another visit.

    I will score this a good 89.

Here is to our 1000+ comments and the 1000th episode of our dear friend WLTV!

  • And we thank you Dan for joining us for the ride here on Wine Lib and such a great review. Very nice. 😉

I just need to procur my bottle of Pommery so I can revisit an old flame of mine.

The WineFest went well today. I will give my reviews of a few stellar wines I had the privilege to experience.

    Cheers!

  • I think he can! Good luck

I play doubles from 930a-1130a and then another set from 1p-3p. I will be one tired but hopefully happy puppy tomorrow before the Caps game.

They were spanked like a newborn last night. 🙁

  • Hey there my man. Hope all is well.

    Cheers!

P.S. My other G-Men fan loved your draft pick. I love ours. I thought your boys may pick up Castonzo but left him for us.

Many have migrated …. but a few remain. In the end the people that want to be here are. They are not die hard Vaniacs but rather die hard WLTV ers’

For me, the people that I want to stay connected to are here ….. and it’s a cozy little place.

Like button hit to all that continue to post here 😉

If and when they (you) all leave then it will be a new chapter, but me becoming a “Daily Graper” – that will not happen. I may watch the show but I will not be conversing on that forum.

    TTF … 😉

P.S. Love that Lisa S and MelbLl are here posting and giving it that women’s touch 😉

  • Well, I couldn’t have said it better myself. Agree x 10.
As Dominus would say, time for a group hug. 🙂

  • Yaaay!!!!!!!!! Good job! You’re still playing with injured achilles tendon? Ouch! Wow.. you are one tough dude.

  • Loved your review, Dan. Well done!! I am drinking the Pommery Brute Apanage as I write this. My notes are similar to yours. I’ll report back in a few min. -Lisa

    We didn’t know???

  • Loved the wedding!! The highlight for me was also when the newlyweds drove off in the convertible with William at the wheel. Aston Martin?

Re: Enzo.. Where do you find these obscure wines??? Sounds wonderful though. Love the sniffy sniffs.

  • Good luck, D! Sorry about the Caps.

  • Beautiful day in SF Bay Area today.. temp in the 70s. I was supposed to be in San Francisco for the day, but change of plans, so I stayed closer to home and attended a couple of very interesting wine tastings today.

Wilfred Wong was pouring wines at the new Bevmo in Menlo Park today. I live about 3 blocks from this store, so I thought I’d pop in and see what was happening. He poured the following wines:
    1. Rombauer Chardonnay – (a.k.a. cougar juice, etc.) I think they put sugar in this wine.
    2. Ridge Geyserville ’08 – Good but not as good as previous vintages.
    3. Napanook 07 or 08 – Very good. My favorite of the group.
    4. Hall ’07 Cab – I’ve had the 05 and 06 in the past. There is something about the tannins in this wine (in all three vintages) that I’m not crazy about. A good wine overall -just couldn’t have much of it.
    5. The Prisoner ’09. Good for BBQ.. This is a crowd-pleasing red. Good although not very complex or interesting.
I have to say that Wilfred Wong is a wonderful guy. I think I may have driven other tasters away with my geeky questions. Anyway, we had a nice chat and I was impressed.

Down the street at my favorite wine shop, they were tasting 8 Oregon Pinots and an Oregon Sparkler: Argyle brut. I didn’t like the Argyle at all, so was looking forward to drinking the Pommery Brut Apanage.

    Pommery Brut Royal Apanage:
Well, I’m on my second glass of this lovely champagne. I could drink the entire bottle myself right now.. so if my spelling deteriorates as I write this, you’ll know I’ve had too much. 🙂

Sniffy sniff: pear, toasty bread, flowers. Very nice nose.

Tasting: This is so well balanced, dry and med-full bodied. Love the yeasty toasty bread, citrus and green apple, a tad sweet but definitely dry. . A well-made champagne. This would pair well with lobster or fish, buttery chicken.. I would definitely buy this again. 90+ points. Good suggestion, Dominus. I need to drink champagne more often… Very sensual.

Cheers TTF!! Congrats to us for reaching 1,000 comments!
Thanks so much for participating in this bubbly fest! x Lisa

    What, my brother?

Glad to see you back over here castello checking up on the old place. 😉

  • Anonymous

Nice Lisa. Enjoyed your notes and pairings. Well done! Did you get a chance to taste the Pinots from Oregon? That Hall sounded interesting to me and I have heard that about the Prisoner what you wrote. 😉

  • Thx Dan. I tasted only 4 of the 8 Oregon Pinots. I thought I’d spare you with my notes for now since I already wrote a short novel. 🙂

  • BTW. It says to use 1/2 cup of Veggie Oil. I think that’s just too much and too heavy. Instead. I used 2-3 tablespoons of butter (or spread sub) melted. The bananas keeps the bread moist. I think the butter gives it more taste and makes it lighter.

    Just a suggestion.

Finally, the Lisa that I know was going to show up, showed up … and in a big way. What a Great post !!! You Go G _ _ _ 😉

    1) Cougar juice is solid (very solid) if you this style. … I do 🙂 and have it on stand bye.
    2) Ridge is good stuff, but the 08 is such a tough year and inconsistent. Some of the other Ridge offering are better.
    3) Napanook, the baby “Dominus” is soooo good…… for the buck, a steal 😉
    4) Hall Cabs are not my cup of tea … agreed here.
    5) You are so correct in that the “crowd” loves this wine. If they “anyone” loves this wine, then I know exactly where they are in their wine journey. This wine is not for me, actually never was.

Sounds like You had a great day of wine tasting … Lucky!!!!

P.S. I’m sure you have been to Beltramos.. what a nice wine shop huh ? I have found so many great selections there 😉

I will be reviewing my bubbly tomorrow 🙂

I like the butter idea. Will be implementing your recommendation 😉

    Thank You !!!

Some of these wines I find on the WTSO web site. They catch my eye and I buy 😉

Not smart but I can’t let my partner down. 😉 I’d rather lose than not try 😉

  • Awww. Thanks TP. I appreciate your notes as well. Interesting how we agree on most of the wines. You know about Beltramo’s? It’s my home away from home. Almost like “Cheers” …where everybody knows your name? Not kidding! Great selection, staff, and weekly wine tastings.

It was supposed to be a reply to Anders about why we’re all not here……
    You folks are hard core!

  • Butter is the solution to good taste

  • Yes, an amazing review. It’s interesting what happens when original plans go array and you have to “settle” for sipping some Pommery. Thank goodness it did not disappoint.

Agree tennispro on the Napanook. For some reason, a smile and a chill went down my spine when Lisa had the opportunity to try it. Looks like a great day of wine tasting.

I’m making a nice risotto right now and will be making an attempt at Cornell Chicken on the grille. I am sipping on a William Hill Chard that I really enjoyed yesterday the winefest. This is a nice wine. With the Cornell Chicken (a professor from Cornell developed the recipe) I will open up the Santa Barbara pinot. I remember stopping by there on my “Sideways” tour a few years ago and enjoyed their wines. Yesterday at the winefest it was one of the better one. What a lovely part of our wonderful country.

    Back soon with reviews.

    Cheers!

  • Nice! We can do twitpics on here? I need to find out how to do it. Yes, yes, I’m a rookie. Someone needs to hold my hand. 😉

  • Amen my man, amen.

Reminds me of the big question at my cooking demos. Chef Haerringer asks “Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with butter?” And the entire crowd responds in unison “NOTHING!!”

    🙂

  • Me too. I’m in the need of one (who isn’t) and it feels great. 🙂

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • 49 playing the over 30s? Wow, you are good!

I played four hours today. Split sets in both 🙁 though the first match we lost 6-7 (5-7) in the tiebreaker on a a missed volley by yours truly. Bitch!!!! Oops, sorry. Can’t believe I missed that shot but alas, I did. First set my partner of one year have lost. Other than the tennis, the changeovers are an intellectual feast. This is my partner, wonderful guy and a doggone good player. Noted author, wrote the screenplay for “Body of Lies.”

Hope you kicked some butt tennispro.

    Cheers!

  • Thank you tennispro and Lisa for the good wishes. Time to grille some chicken and get pumped for the game in 90 mins.

    We HAVE to wine tonight.

    Cheers!

  • Congrats my man on your victory! Achilles are bad so don’t tear it. If it does, it wraps up your leg and you don’t want that for sure.

Hang tough my man and good luck.

    Dom

  • “Default” is not in our vocabulary over here. 🙂

    Kick butt.

  • I have referenced this movie before “The Scent of a Woman” and I can understand what you experienced. Sniffy sniffs is what it’s all about.

    🙂

  • Tell us what we owe Mott. A bottle of Tokay? Will that suffice?
