EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

  • I applaud you and thank you. It was a treat to see my name no matter what forum and in what context except of course in the post office under “Most Wanted.” That means I have some relevance in this world whether “good” or “bad.” I’m cool with it.

Keep up the good work and interaction over there. Remember us over here now and then. 🙂

    Cheers!

P.S. I saw my “friend” over there was spanked a bit in one of Friday’s comments. Funny.

  • Ouch my man, ouch. Sorry, don’t push it as they say though I know you being the competitive want to get out there asap especially with the weather getting nice. I remember I couldn’t play for weeks due to a problem with my right arm. Never any ailments, was a pitcher in baseball, quite durable and then all of a sudden I had this constant pain in my wrist that extended down the length of my arm. Ibuprofen, rest, splint/brace, lots of good wine didn’t help. Finally had MRIs and went to a hand/wrist specialist who told me the ligament that holds two of the three bones in the top of my hand was torn. Only solution was either surgery to place a pin or rehab and always wear a wrist brace after the pain goes away. I opted for the latter and have been fine ever since since I didn’t want to be out of commission from the tennis court for six months. So it takes some time but well worth it. Like a good Bordeaux. 🙂

Good luck with rehab and your wine shopping. I’m playing this morning and then hitting one of our nice wine shops in DC. My tennis friend who bought cases and cases of ’86 Bordeaux (d’Yquem, Rothschild, all the 1st crus) recommended the ’06 Vieux Donjon CDP (30 bones) so I will try to find some at MacArthur Beverages (Parker shops here) along with the Apenage.

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

  • It is quite obvious on point number one and agree with you on the rest. Can they really get into brown bags? Then it would resemble WL? The heresy! We can’t have that now can we?!?!

    🙂

  • That’s how I feel! I can still kick butt on the tennis court (I pick my opponents well) and I can remember what I drank yesterday. Two days ago, I get fuzzy but yes, you are as young as you feel.

P.S. If I ever get the opportunity to hold a lovely woman’s hand, well, let’s say I feel like I’m 15.

    😉

  • You have my dream job. 😉

  • The other one is home to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. One day I will make the trip to Newport, Canton and Cooperstown.

  • LOL 😉

2008 Domaine Servin Chablis Premiere Cuvee Les Pargues Tasting Notes:

Right from the moment the cork was pulled, full citrus aroma filled the air. Nice yellow color that is pleasing to the eye. Once in the glass the citrus became more pronounced with hints of lemon that was a clean wiping of the senses. You also get the sense of ocean air as if you were standing on the beach at sunset.

Letting the yellow nectar roll over my lips to coat the full palate a metallic minerality hits you right away. You get a taste of wet rock, citrus notes definitely has that saline feel. This is a well balanced Chablis with the acid in check, the minerality and citrus all working together giving you a good long finish.

This would go well with baked scallops with butter and garlic.

I would score this an 89. A good Chablis. $24 bones

    Nostrovia! TTF

    Like button hit.

Great review sir !!!!! I especially like the food pairing suggestion and will seek to create that combo.

Just had the Roar Pinot (Gary’s vineyard). I need to think a bit to create a post that is worth
    😉

… but just a quick hint, I did like it A LOT ;-0

  • 🙂 I think you’re in good shape, D.

  • No, no, no.. tennispro. you are missing my point! Hahahahaha! 🙂

  • Nice, Dan! Very nice. 🙂

  • I like Roar.. I’ll wait here for your review! 🙂

Re: Gary’s vineyard from Santa Lucia Highlands.. good stuff. Maybe the only vineyard I like from that region. I’ve tasted about a dozen PN from Santa Lucia Highlands and not impressed… probably my least favorite CA region for pinot noir. Is it just me???

  • Did I miss something???????????????

  • Hi D: Good advice for TP. I hope he listens to you!!

If you can find 06 Vieux Donjon CdP, pls let me know.. Is there any left on the planet? I recently bought the 08.
    Merci beaucoup. x

  • more like Thunder Squatters 😀

  • beautiful.. I can see I have to drink more wine and post reviews. Used to do the latter on Cork’d before it got corked.

  • Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Good work Dan!

  • Did you see the announcement that the newsletter price will be jumping again? Second price jump in what 36 episodes? The price will now be 50% higher than an online subscription to Wine Spectator?!?! Of course at WS, I can’t win a trip to Paso Robles. I will need a lottery ticket for that.

    Good job GV. Wow 🙂

  • Kahuna’s response today to the PPP police request is hilarious! 🙂

  • Hope you feel better Mott. 🙁

  • NWID: If you make it out to VA Beach, Ray and I will be there. Promise with camcorder in hand so we can post it and show Lisa and tennispro how it’s done! 🙂

  • Yes, very funny!

  • What?? Really? Another price increase? 🙁

Lisa and I will be in the situation room over at Beltramos wine tasting …. game on 😉

  • Yeah, baby!

    2008 Roar Pinot Noir ( Gary’s Vineyard )

A California pinot with expressive Bing cherry fruit that has a silky smooth delivery. Not to acidic or tart and with a wonderful mid pallet that leads you to a lingering finish that has you staring at your glass to see how long you can hold out for the next sip. Not to long in my case as my brother in law / sister and I polished off the bottle in no time flat 😉 Not sure if we were racing, but refills were coming fast and furious !!! Great Mothers day treat from my brother in law.

P.S. Thank God he is on the mailing list, now if I can only weasel my way into his allotment. 😉

93-94 points and still with a vivid recollection of that finish …. I guess that’s what makes it a great pinot for me !

TTF …. Be strong, these are times of change 😉

Italian Open Tennis Tournament … what a total disappointment to see so many empty seats in the first round of a super nine tournament. Now if I could only get there I could sneak up to the front row 😉

  • Ahhhh you are making me jealous TP and bringing back fond memories. I attended the Italian Open about 10 years ago and must say it has been one of my favorite pro tournaments ever. Beautiful grounds in a nice part of the city. I remember walking around and there was Goran Ivanisevic practicing that bomb serve of his on an outside court under some trees.

Sorry to hear that seats are empty. I would chance moving on down. I did it at the French Open and moved around like a gypsy. Pardone! Pardone!

Have a great time and no need to check out the food or wine. Not good. 🙂

    Cin! Cin!

  • Now I’m jealous! 🙁

  • P.S. I’m guessing “10 years ago.” It could be longer. I forget sometimes in my old age. I will check to see the last time Goran played there.

  • Anonymous

Not there, but I wish I was !!! I’ve been watching the tournament on TV. 😉

  • Oh ok. When you said make your way down to front row I assume you were globetrotting to Italia.

It is an amazing tournament and the “sights” are a delight. 😉

  • Just received my monthly shipment of Oregon pinot and two bottles of the ’06 Clos L’Eglise

    http://cinderellawine.com/2011/05/06/2006-chateau-clos-leglise-pomerol-la-reserve/

It will nice out on the deck this evening. 😉

  • got a subscription for wine. now thats a good idea 🙂

  • Yeah, it’s great to see the courier stop by and unload brown boxes with “Adult Signature Required” emblazoned on the side. I have wine shipped to my office in DC since MD does not allow direct shipping from retail outlets to homes plus there’s no one home to sign for it since I’m obviously at work.

I got turned onto Oregon pinots by a friend who suggested I give this wine club a try and I haven’t looked back. I actually met the owner on a trip to Portland and had dinner at a nice restaurant http://portland.heathmanhotel.com/html/portland-fine-dining.asp where he brought some of his stock to taste. A great guy too which helps. 😉

If you want some off-the-wall Oregon pinots I would suggest you give these folks a try.

    http://www.oregonpinotnoir.com/StoreFront.bok

    Cheers!

P.S. Of course if you find something you like, always do a search on WL to see if they carry it since no one beats GV’s prices.

  • I bet they ship across the pond? Hmmmmm

  • WL don’t and the customs in Sweden is hell bent on stopping wine from all countries….
But I got a brother living in Oregon City so he can horde it for me and then we try to sneak it home to me 🙂

  • Did our “idea” get plagiarized? Just wondering.

Where is NY Pete? He can answer that one. 🙂

  • You are too cute! 😉

  • Excellent review, TP!!! You’re right.. it’s the finish that stays with you. I thought I had tried Roar in the past, but no, I think it was Roessler instead (which was OK not great).

Have you ever tried Sojourn pinot noir? I’ve only had their Sonoma Coast bottling (blend) and not the single vineyard designates, such as Gap’s Crown and Sangiacomo, which tend to get higher ratings. Love Sojourn. Very, very silky smooth.

  • The owner of Zaytinya in DC http://www.zaytinya.com/ which I frequented before Caps games is featured here.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110510/ap_on_en_ot/us_fea_food_beard_restaurants?bouchon=511,dc

Who shall diss DC restaurants now? Kudos to Jose Andres and the others.

  • Dom, Zaytinya looks great!! I’ll definitely make a point to visit next time I am in DC. Wow and the owner beat out Gary Danko and Charlie Phan of San Fran.. Impressive. Now I want Greek food. 🙂

  • How do you say “Delish and fun fun fun” in Greek? And if you ever make it to DC, you better let me know.

First and foremost, I would take you here for a cooking demo http://chefjacques.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CJ&Category_Code=CD2 and then here http://www.proofdc.com/ and one block away is http://www.zaytinya.com/ and by nightfall, we will sit under the cherry blossoms and pay homage to one of our forefathers who had the foresight to initiate trade with France and an avid lover of Bordeaux wines. http://www.viewwashingtondc.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Jefferson_Memorial_1.jpg

Not bad for a first date? 😉

    Cheers!

P.S. On my recommendation, you would stay here which is a couple blocks from my work. Not too shabby. http://washington.intercontinental.com/

  • NY Pete strikes again! My man 😉

  • No he didn’t!!!!! Oh yes he did. 🙂
