EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

    what is going on?

  • NY Pete

hope all my fellow Vayniacs are well.

  • My man. We are holding down the fort with great interaction and our own TTF QOTD that I believe “someone who shall remain nameless” was supposed to initiate. πŸ˜‰

    We are well. Thanks.

I think I can speak for most and say we miss Mott and have yet to “make the connection” though we will always love the G-Man.

    Cheers!

    P.S. How are you?

  • Well, dear, consider it piqued. πŸ™‚

  • D, You play the piano? Amazing. All beautiful pieces. Loved the Beethoven piece and espec the Mozart piece, which I had not heard before… Nice. You must have seen the movie, “Amadeus”.. I wonder if this piece was in it?

How wonderful it must have been to visit Vienna. It’s on my list (after France and Italy).

And who doesn’t love Steve Winwood? I wore out his CDs in the late 80s as well. Roll With It and my favorite, Higher Love. Ummm.. I had not seen this video before… Hot. Re: 02:22 Well, you know what they say.. Practice makes perfect. πŸ˜‰

PS: I will answer your QOTD once I recover from last video clip. Speechless (again).
    Thx for sharing. L

Sharks win πŸ˜‰ No comeback for you !!!

  • alive and kicking

  • ouch, did the swede team lose, darn…

  • Yes, that piece was in the movie. Great scene where Mozart’s wife Constanze visits Salieri to try and convince him to give Wolfie the Koncertmaster post. Salieri slowly waves his hand over the leather bound manuscripts and says “And these . . . are . . . originals?” And then he reads the music while the Gran Partita begins to play. Magical scene. I have seen “Amadeus” maybe 50 times?

And yes, I play the piano but am a beginner at best. Take lessons and try to practice as often as I can. After the second glass of wine the notes start running together. πŸ™‚

  • Hockey? What’s that? πŸ˜‰

I don’t have to say this to NW because he hasn’t got a life,,,,,, πŸ˜‰ (Hope you all have a sense of humour) HiHi—–

  • As a matter of fact we like our lives over here. Now leave us alone and go back whence you came. πŸ˜‰

  • we wish we could, but work drains us so and to get some air we tend to squat here, in waiting for the reapperance of the magical 1001.

  • So my sweet woman serves me oven baked chicken with lots of herbs potato stewed in creme with parsley and a pickles and tomato salad. I open a Morgon, ChΓ’teau des Jacques 2009. Much darker then I expected. Violet red Old world scent with that earth, chalk, and a slight hint of poo in the background.
Up front the nose is more blueberry, wild raspberry, some dried grass and lingonberry ( a typical swedish forest berry with a slight acid tart scent and bitter taste, but
you just to have lingonberry jam with the Swedish meatballs)
The taste is initially dry chalk, dirt followed by blueberry, white peppery tannins on the mid palate and forest fruit galore on the dry back end. So dry at the back that this actually need the food. Feels very age worthy with that tannin structure. Maybe a hair hot (13% alcohol) 88 points a 20 dollar wine in my country so I guess a lot of you can get it much cheaper.

I’m happy to say I’m pretty psyched to see the current episode over at Daily grape, since I’m quoted on a few pages of that article that Gary bases his episode on (I’m the John from Antrim 1844 in that article).
I certainly don’t mean this as any sort of bragging thing, I come from a family who has no interest in wine so this is one of the only places I have to share it.

  • John__J

Hanging in there, how are you

  • John__J

Wow Vascular Surgery, I have cousin who does that, that’s really hard work but really rewarding my cousin tells me.

  • John__J

Love Amadeus, that film is flawless.

  • John__J

You guys familiar with Jules Massenet? He’s not as famous but he’s composed some gorgeous pieces.

  • That’s great news, John, J! Very cool. I’ll be sure to check out the episode!! πŸ™‚

  • Aaawww! You had me at “my sweet woman” πŸ™‚ I had decided that Morgons were not my thing but might consider trying one again in the future after reading your description.

  • Umm..yes, I have one (a life) and my wine friends here are a happy part of it. Thanks for your concern. We don’t need an intervention ( well at least not yet). πŸ˜‰

  • Hi J: I’m not a surgeon, I just play one on TV. Ha! Actually it’s an administrative job. Surgical education (residency and fellowship) and faculty appointments, promotions and searches.

  • It was indeed flawless.. I think won best pic? I need to see it again.. I have a VHS copy, but need to get DVD.

  • I thought that long guest episodes would appear here….

  • ALLAN2.0

Would be awesome if he threw ya’ll a curve ball and called it 1002 instead….. πŸ™‚

  • Great review AndersN. Morgons for me can be hit or miss but the one I had a little over a week ago was quite good. I must admit, “hotness” in wines turn me off more than anything but when we talk about “hotness” of our fellow Vayniacs, i.e. Lisa, well, that’s a different story altogether. πŸ™‚

    TGIF!!!!!!

  • Nice, very nice John. You are most welcomed over here my man. Congrats and we don’t mind bragging at all, especially when it relates to exemplary food and wine.

I need to return to Antrim 1844 soon. A wonderful B&B that knows it’s wines. I need another framed “personal” menu for my kitchen wall. πŸ˜‰

    Cheers to John_J!!!!!

P.S. I have glass in hand so will go watch the DG now. I know who that is! You’re right AndersN, that should have been filmed “over here on the Dark Side.”

  • I came out of the woodwork for you NY Pete. You hit it on the head my man.

  • The episode with Andrea Robinson? I must have missed it. Can you link up the article?

  • There were two wines on the table and they did not review them? Hmmm. Just seemed to be pushing her new business venture into wine glasses.

  • Laid Back Couch Friday? Where is it? πŸ™‚

  • Let’s hope for something, not it’s suddenly Behind the Grape for guests, when DG stement was no guest and 10-15 shows on WLTV for special things…. I guess the old comfort zone is making an apperance in new form or what..

  • well, it seemed filmed “here” but posted “there”, well it’s just a click away.

  • True, and the DG score icons are eaqually empty. They screwed the script up on that one or?

  • πŸ™‚ Exactly

Time for me to grille some sea bass and have a glass of wine on the deck listening to some music.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

I’ll do my own rendition of Laid Back Friday!

    Cheers!

You have got to be kidding me GV! You are going to give up on WLTV all together and start having guest over at DG and non here like you promised. How sad! This is definitely a sad day in wine history. I do foresee the WLTV site going by the way of the Dodo Bird. I am not feeling very happy about now. πŸ™

After this last DG episode, I can no longer believe anything GV says, can you ??? He is more wishy washie that most presidents I know.

Just saying GV, man up ….. Can you ever keep your word about DG or WLTV and what’s what ????

Okay, I fell better now πŸ˜‰

  • After reading the comments from GV today over there, I have come to the conclusion, albeit forsakenly (is that a word?) that it (WLTV) is no more. He’s “thinking” about it? Please, to be that successful you don’t “think” about business decisions. You do it and that part of you has inspired us for many years.

To me, this is a sad ending to five glorious years. I spent more time, listening, drinking, laughing and commiserating with GV than I have with any one person in my entire life.

Good things must come to an end. Begrudgingly and kicking as we are shown the door, but alas, it will happen. And soon if by tonight’s episode didn’t put the nail in the coffin.

I’m with you NWIndianaDan. Sad but we must go on. If you want to ask the QOTD: What was the last wine you ordered at a restaurant and receive a bunch of “I don’t order wine at restaurants” or what is your favorite European capital and the answer is “I’ve never traveled to Europe” then so be it.

Time to pull up our bootstraps and move on.

I appreciate and adore all the friendships I have made over the years. Lisa, tennispro, yourself, Kahuna, NY Pete, the list goes on and on. And last but not least, Mott. That is what broke the camel’s back for me. I love the guy. Plain and simple.

    Cheers!

P.S. Last but not least, GO COLTS!!!! πŸ™‚

  • John__J

no actually and the one prior.

  • John__J

    Thanks Dom.
You’ll get a personal menu anytime you come there. My name may not be on it after the 24th however. I’ll be moving on from Antrim after that, (on very good terms) and heading into wine distribution.

  • John__J

Thanks Lisa! although I’m sure the only thing about that issue in the episode(as I haven’t seen it yet) is Gary tasting a couple wines that were among he top glass pours listed for restaurants in the issue.

  • John__J

Oh yeahhhh, if Andrea is on over there that does kinda mean that. I’ll be more curious to see that episode now. Gary’s gotten flack for switching to DG and not doing WLTV outside of when he has a guest. I’ve decided to keep my thoughts to myself on that issue and not really comment on it. But I’ll say after hearing about this, that it sounds like Gary is purposely trying to send us “vayniacs” who still keep things alive over here into some sort of “jokes on you” purgatory or something.
I may change my mind after I watch it, but for right now I’m a bit surprised frankly.

  • John__J

yeah Dom, I know how you feel. I’m taken aback as well. I don’t really know what to say. I almost feel played for a fool after hearing that WLTV would be kept for guests and DG for tastings and NOT guests, as weird or lame as that sounds.
For 2 months and hundreds of comments we’ve ( and some of you guys quite a bit more than me) have still been on here every day chatting and commenting in addition to being over at DG.
At the very least we never would’ve met any of each other if wasn’t for this site. And I hate to say it, but it’s starting to perhaps seem like that a bit now- Just some website. I wouldn’t say I’ve turned out the lights yet as you have Dom, but my finger is on the switch.

  • John__J

If you’re going to reconsider Morgon’s or any other Beaujolais Cru the timing is perfect, 09 is the year to get, perhaps the best year its had ever. And it’s a real steal value play. Personally I recommend steering away from the Jadot’s and the DeBoeuf’s and going for some of the more interesting grower prodeucer’s. Cheers!

  • Thx for the tip, John. I tried the stuff that you recommended I steer away from (yeah, not impressed) I may give the Morgons another whirl.

BTW: Best wishes with your new venture in wine distribution!!! I hope you continue to keep in touch (as long as the lights are still on over here). Cheers!

  • So, the tone of the WLTV to DG transition looks more like a continuing trend rather than a onetime shift to a new equilibrium. The business enterprise appears to have become more about Vaynermedia and building the GV celebrity brand to monetize things around a wine and social media theme as opposed to a wine-centric offering with interesting personality and a really good wine shop connection. That’s OK if the content quality and entertainment level remains, but IMO that’s been diluted. And the plugs for things he invests in without disclosure is a bit tacky. Guess I’m not the target audience.
QOTD’s etc seem to be designed more to generate numbers than content (perhaps to impress potential Vaynermedia clients? Or just stroke an ego?). Yet after 2 months the DG web site and app are well below average in functionality (wouldn’t potential clients notice that, too?) I can’t beleive how a group pasing themselves off as a gang of cutting edge techno wiz still have no password retrieval functionality! LOL. And how’d that Wine and Web thing work out?
I dunno. Maybe GV’s crazy like a fox, or maybe his competitive, impulsive/ADHD side has taken over a bit too much. Maybe DG will bring him the $$$ he seeks over the long haul or maybe GV’s in the process of Jumping The Shark and in the process perhaps unwittingly helping to prove that he’s no immune from his own pronouncement that99.5% Percent of Social Media Experts Are Clowns.

  • Wow.. I don’t know what to say. Just watched DG and am more shocked at the comments over there than from Gary’s decision not to show the episode here.. Yes, it’s a different crowd at DG… lots of newbies (is that a word?)

As Dom said below, the QOTD answers have been interesting to say the least. Yikes!

I’ve been following Gary on WLTV for approx 2-1/2 yrs (not as long as some of you) and met him last month at a book signing here. What a terrific guy! I’ve learned so much from him and from all of you.. However, it is HIS show and I respect his decision going forward whatever it may be. sniff, sniff.. Time for another group hug.
    x Lisa
