EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

  • Don’t blame ya. I’ve had that wine and it is good. Agree with you going with Kermit. He’s usually spot on for me.

I’m doing the Cloudy Bay SB (on sale for 20 bones). Old, true and reliable, like my dog. Wait, I don’t have a dog but I have a canary so that will have to do.

  • Well, I definitely need to get the Le Mistral. GV have it? I just placed an order so I can have it changed. Need to research. Thanks guys.

Well, no Le Mistral at WL but they have the Backus? Now that’s serious vino. I would open one of those bad boys for Lisa but by my lonesome, I think not.

  • Hi Lisa dear;

Let me go down and check the vintage/vineyard of my Sea Smoke. BRB

  • Not that I have always believed it but I have been told that “good things come to those who wait.” For that bottle of wine, try and hold out. It will reward you in many ways.

  • I have a few bottles of the ’97 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages. Is that any good?

LOL …. I’ve got 3 parakeets 😉 …… and oh yea an English Bulldog to boot.

  • You are kidding me! I used to have parakeets but they were so nasty so I have stuck with these gorgeous singing canaries. Of course, this guy’s name is “Peyton.”

Now Bulldogs are really cooool. 🙂

P.S. I just uttered a word on DG. I wonder if I’ll get my mouth washed out with soap?

Yes, that wine is very good and has aged gracefully. I have too have 1996 and 1997 and they are both drinking well now. I suspect in 2-5 years the fruit will go from fresh to dried, but it should continue to evolve 😉 My 2 cents.

My have to crack one open tonight, if I do i’ll “post it up”.

Is the sea smoke – better/ on par /or not quite up to snuff/ – when compared to the W. Sylem offerings ????

  • NY Pete

    where’s that slacker SS Chris?

will he ever update the spreadsheet?

    😛

  • You two own birds?? I would have never guessed it in a million yrs! Chirp. I would love to have a golden retriever .. No yard, no patio.. no room for a pooch. Woof.

  • Oh.. I am so happy to hear it! (about current CdP release) Merci, D!

Dom gets a shout out on DG by GV ….. your letter must have really stuck with GV 😉

TTF … QOTD …. best dinner experience in Vegas ???

Had dinner at the Caesars steak house. Dinner was not memorable but the Spottswoode 2006 was 😉
Had Dinner at Paris Hotel main dinner venue and it was not remarkable. Turnbull 2005 was good.

I guess the best place had dinner was in 2005 at the Rio Hotel little Italian Restaurant on the main floor. It’s no longer there, but it was the best !!!

  • 😉 Oh dear.. I am speechless yet again. I need a moment. Deep breath.

Umm., yes…. Sea Smoke. I bet Kris Curran was still the winemaker in 03 and 05? The question out there is if the wine is as good since she left? I wouldn’t know since I have not had any prior to 2006. Cherry-licious (is that a word?)

  • I just saw that but I don’t live in Indy. I met him not too far from my house in MD and a wine dinner in VA. I guess he forgot our “trysts” and since I’m a Colts fan assumed I lived in Indy.

    Oh well. I appreciate it.

    Cheers!

Yeah when Gary called me out on WL he thought I was in Atlanta. I dont know where in the hell he got that from lol.
But you came up on the current one? I’ll skip ahead the few episodes I’m behind on on there and check it out.

  • John__J

I’ve been to Reno and Tahoe but not Vegas so I’ll have to let you know.

  • John__J

Hailing from MD, I plan on getting a Chespeake Bay Retriever one day

  • I bet that I’m the only one (of the TTF) who’s been to Vegas.. Hmm.. Maybe NWID?
I’ve been to Paris main dining and agree w/you.. Caesar’s does have some nice restaurants… can’t remember which. Emeril’s restaurant in MGM Grand was good… I think any restaurant by Thomas Keller or Michael Mina in Vegas will be memorable. Bellagio is still my favorite Vegas hotel.

  • Ha! Poor Gary.. He must be sleep-deprived. 🙂

  • Love lamb chops.. I’ll be right over. 🙂 Sadly, no Santa Barbara is not close. I could fly to DC in the same amount of time it would take me to drive to Santa Barbara (4 hrs).
I’m about 45 miles south of San Francisco. 🙂
    Cheers!

  • John__J

I should go, those restaurants and all the other Sommelier’s not to mention MS’s they have there and their wine lists…..
Although I’m sure they have the prices to go with it.

  • John__J

I’m just making this pointless comment so I have 1300 comments on my silly disqus profile now.

You are right Lisa, I have been to Vegas many times. I went to college in Utah (Utah State University) and we used to go quite a bit. I like Vegas, but it gets old after about 3-4 days. I like to golf, so that is a saving grace. I like the old time hotels and the Sahara has just closed its doors. Sad! Make room for the shiny and new.

  • Wow.. How did I know that??? Just a lucky guess. Wish I was this lucky at blackjack. Anyway, that is another story. The Beatles Love show at the Mirage Hotel is fantastic (if you like the Beatles). Vegas does get old after a few days..so true.. However, it is a great weekend getaway for fine dining, wine, entertainment and shopping (and blackjack).

Never been to the Bellagio. Will be there in October so I’ll check it out !!!

  • Anonymous

For the foodie that you are I’m surprised …. Some many great Chef’s there.
You should go and experience the food, wine, and a blackjack playing session with Lisa S.

    LOL 😉

or for that matter where is MOTT or am I wrong and SS Chris is MOTT ?

  • well, then I have to do the same so I reach 1400, 9 to go…

  • nah, seen them both on WLTv and they don’t look alike, or … wait, maybe they do….

  • So 09 is good too? Haven’t heard that. I’m collecting 07’s Got 2 bottles of 25 producers now, still looking… (into my wallet to see if there is any bones left)

  • never been, and will never is my guess for obvious reasons, but never say never

  • I agree TP. I don’t care much at all for gambling so never had the desire to go. In the past 5-10 years with the influx of amazing chefs, yes, I should be there front row center. Since I adore Venice (been there at least five times) it would be great to visit The Venetian.

Now, if I had the opportunity to play Blackjack with Lisa, well, I’m there for sure. 😉

  • Never been to Vegas but if someone twisted my arm . . .

  • Mi casa su casa. And to quote Teri Hatcher about my lamb chops.

P.S. 4 hrs! Oh well, I’m an East Coast guy so I had no clue. All lovely country out there.

  • In my early youth, I was a quiet “lurker” so I have a long way to go to reach the promised land of 1300-1400.

Actually, I changed my “handle” a few times along the way.

  • Love the Beatles. Greatest group of all time IMHO.

Daily Grape 60 ……. who has watched this ?

Totally not my style … What’s the point ??? Someone help me out on this after watching 😉

In the comments section there was a reference to reviewing the mona lisa that sums up my take on DG60.

  • John__J

I think I changed mince once too. What were your previous moniker’s?

  • John__J

    I’m unfamiliar with DG60, what’s that? Can’t be an episode #

  • Dunno. I saw it referenced “over there” but did not understand. I will go check it out.

    Slow day at work. 😉

  • John__J

I have a question for you guys and gals:

When you’re having wine at home, do you pick the dish out 1st or the wine out 1st, and how much does it matter to you that the wine pairs with the dish or pairs really well with the dish?

  • Good questions and my general answer is ‘it depends.” If it’s during the week, then I choose the wine to pair with the meal. If I’m having a dinner bash, then I go to the cellar and pick out some of the oldies but goodies and then decide what masterpiece I will create in the kitchen. I reference it as “reverse engineering.”

Does it matter? I think is ALWAYS matters even at times when pairing wine with food. 😉

  • I guess the “DG60” is the “quickie” version? Now, being the mature gentleman that I am, I’m not too partial to anything “quick” especially when it comes to wine. (You thought I was going somewhere else with that huh?)

Long and slow is my preference, i.e. aging a nice Bordeaux, a 5-hr tennis match at Roland Garros, cooking Julia Child’s “Boeuf-Bourguignon” and last but not least . . . (let your mind wander) 😉

  • Here you go, D:

From GV on Daily Grape a few days ago:

    What do u guys think?
    http://www.youtube.com/dgsixty
subscribe 🙂 Seriously I want eveyone to leave me their 2 cents on DG60

  • I watched it just now… Hmmm… It’s like “Speed Grape.” Maybe it’s good for those with a short attention span? I wonder if this is like speed dating? 🙂
