EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

Excellent idea.. However, I am camera-shy so the only thing you’ll see on Skype is the back of my head. πŸ™‚

  • Lisa S

Interesting article. Thx for sharing, D.

  • Lisa S

Glad you like the Vinturi, Dom. Now I don’t feel bad that mine didn’t arrive yet since I already own one of those.. (must be on the shipping/receiving dock at Stanford along with the wine I ordered for Friday taste-along!)..

I don’t use the vinturi after the first two glasses either…. Agree.. at that point, who cares??

    Cheers!

  • 176 champagnes but no schramburg πŸ™

  • Works like a charm and has its own slick holder/carrying case. I may have to pour more red wine just to play with this thing. πŸ˜‰

  • I sure don’t! πŸ˜‰

  • LOL Don’t be shy m’lady. I was going to don a Peyton Manning mask!

  • What was the 1st wine GV reviewed? Veritas or something to that effect? Maybe we could find that wine though a champagne always puts a spring in my step and believe me, I need all the “spring” I can get these days. πŸ˜‰

  • His first wine was “Verite.” I was close but no cigar.

  • A nice German Riesling?

  • John__J

Sounds awesome. I may be m.i.a. however for the next few days or only popping in very sparingly as I’m moving downtown in addition to starting my new job.
    But that idea sounds great

  • John__J

I’ve heard great things about the aerator, but it’ll probably be a good while before I pick one up. I’m all about new things and think it’s silly to diss on screw caps, etc., but I like the good old fashioned pouring it out and letting it breathe

  • It even has that weird sound similar to when you suck in air through your mouth over the wine when tasting! Kinda neat.

  • Well, GV said it on last night episode that WLTV will end at 1000. So do we go to 2000 comments and call it a night? Your thoughts.

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend however they may spend it whether it be with family, fine wine, good eating or all of the aforementioned. I raise a glass to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live our life as we choose and enjoy our freedoms.

    Cheers!

  • (B.B King Many Miles Travelled upfront)
Have no idea what memorial Day is . We have a day off next Thursday, some sort of christian day, Ascension day. Strange due to the fact that 85% of Swedes are agnostic. Well, I usually play golf on that day with a dear friend.
Call it quits at 2000, well it’s only six of us left so that seems as good time as any.

You all have a great weekend and may you taste delicious wines.

Me, I just rewinding with a porter in hand and waiting for a fish and shrimp soup to be made. Trying my “own” white wine with it. Chateau Haux Reserve de Prorietaires Blanc 2010. I have 10 shares in that Chateau, not much, but always something πŸ˜€
Actually was at the Chateau when harvest begun last fall. Nice to se the process.

    Cheers

  • Lisa S

    Hmmm..
Honestly, since he started DG, I thought that the chances of Gary coming back to WL with a guest were slim to none. The reason I’ve been “here” is because of you, TP, Dan, John_J, AndersN, and others, not because of a possibility of a guest appearance.

Well, you may be right, Dom. It might be time to call it a night. Mott could probably use a break (less maintenance over here). However, I will defer to you boys on this decision.

Yes, let’s raise a glass to all who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks and happy Memorial Day weekend to you. L

  • @AndersN: Yep, it may be time to pull the plug. πŸ™ Boo hoo

It sounds as though you have your priorities in order my friend. 10 shares sounds good to me!

    Cheers

  • That works best since my kitchen gets inundated with those fine aromas especially I always decant the “big boys.”

  • Agree and happy Memorial Day to you my dear. πŸ˜‰

  • Sounds delish

I can report that the wine, which is a SB and Semillion blend (Bordeuax) have a nice nose of starfruit, yellow kiwi and freshly cut clover and a vague hint of dry dirt. The initial palate is medium thick, white peach, starfruit, mid palate bring some grassy notes and a pinch of white pepper and a little acid. Back end is slightly more acid and fresh roll the end with more white fruit. No citrus but still nice. I like this wine, it is a summer one for sure. 88-89 points

  • Mott

You guys can stay as long as you want. I’m not aware of any plans to close the comments down so don’t worry about being here. Enjoy your holiday weekend everybody.

  • Thanks Mott. I guess having an archive with 1000 episodes of wine facts can be hard to close. Hope you get a nice holiday weekend too.

  • Hey my man! Thanks for letting us know. If you hear it’s biting the dust, just shoot me an email so we can all say our “goodbyes” instead of seeing the “No Trespassing” sign on the front door. πŸ˜‰

May you and the family have a great weekend too. Glad to see you.

    Cheers

  • Lisa S

Thank you, Mott! You do the same… In fact, take the next week off. Tell Gary we said so!

Family First ….. Sorry to hear about Troutmans grandfather passing!!!

    Is that a special bottle …. Cepa 21 ????

    Review please πŸ˜‰

  • Lisa S

Sounds like they need Mott at DG tonight. No taste along, which is OK with me since the wine I ordered from WL for taste along on May 20th will not arrive until May 31. 😐
I hate it when that happens.. I really do.

Soooo.. Since I don’t have the Spanish sexy wine tonight.. I am drinking ’08 Le Volte Tenuta dell’Ornellaia ( a third label from Ornellaia) Super Tuscan. This is the third day with this wine. On Day 1: Wine was very tannic and chewy.. even my Vinturi aerator couldn’t help this wine! Day 2: Softer tannins.. plush, nice cherry, and a bit of chocolate. Amazing how this improved overnight. Day 3: Yeah, this reminds me of the Gallo wine I grew up with in the California’s Central Valley. $24 87 pts -LS ( 88 pt Wine Spectator)

Yea, we can still play over here πŸ˜‰

… Like I said before I’ll watch DG, but will not be joining you guys over there. I see all of you posting over there and it might just be easier to go to one site to comment …. If you all need to move on that cool.

I’ll be here with whomever chooses to stay and play πŸ˜‰

I may be able to crack 3000 comments by myself. πŸ˜‰

Hummm is right. I’ve replied to mott on my thoughts πŸ˜‰

See ya on the 8th …. I have a U2 concert on the 7th so it will be a fun filled week πŸ˜‰

  • Lisa S

U2 !! Where and when? Would love to see them, but maybe I’m too old for concerts.. don’t like the crowds and don’t have the patience. The last concert I really enjoyed was Paul McCartney live at Madison Square Garden in 2001. Fabulous.
I’ll be there on the 8th.

Have not played that episode …. I will have to check it out.

After all the letter writing and the flack he got when the first BTG went up, if he didn’t change his mind then, then he was never going too.

Like I said before, it’s DG or bust. And don’t worry he won’t be closing that site anytime soon. How else could he get as much exposure and potential income as he is doing now????

From my perspective, this “DG” thing is the only thing keeping him in the “mainstream: of web traffic. He will always be the wine guy and not the web guy. The books won’t get him to the next level of income. ( I’d love to know the sales numbers ) ….. there are to many other players putting out great web content. Maybe angel investing if he gets lucky.

So without this wine outlet/content (DG) he will not be owning the Jet’s Jet’s Jet’s ….. and we all know that is his goal. So DG or a very similar form of it will continue for a few more years. πŸ˜‰

To God & Country and the people that keep us safe at night …… and to those that have giving their lives in the name of Country I tip my hat & glass to you !!!!

  • Lisa S

Hi TP: Yeah but after hearing Gary speak live during book tour last April, it was obvious to me that he has much bigger fish to fry. He’s involved in so much more than this. This stuff (DG, newsletter, etc) is really small peanuts.

  • Anonymous

Well, I just don’t see it. I hope for the DG fans that’s not the case and he keeps the show going.

As they say…. “Time will tell” on all fronts πŸ˜‰

    U2 @ Oakland June 7th …… Paul McCartney ….. Lucky !!!

    …. I want to see Wings πŸ˜‰

  • Lisa S

I think he will keep it (DG) going because he likes it.. My point is that he is not doing DG for the $$. He’s one smart cookie and has many business ventures. πŸ™‚

2006 Cepa 21 Ribera Del Duero Tasting Notes:

100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo)15% Alcohol Dark Cherry in color, Long lasting legs along the sides of the glass

Nose: Nice Blueberry and Blackberry’s with hints of smoky camp fire, violet notes, and leather

Palate: Great mouth feel, dry but not overly dry, lots of dark fruit, cedar box and licorice mid to backend with a good long lasting finish. Very well balanced!

Food Pairings: Will go well with any Italian Pasta dish, lots of tomatos and garlic. I can also see this with a Spanish Paella.

Rate: 89+ Well worth the $25 Bones πŸ™‚

I’ll bust out something yummy over the weekend and review. Then I’ll review the Dominus wines ( with Lisa S ) on the 8th of June from the K& L wine dinner. πŸ˜‰ What the heck I’ll do a foodie review from that dinner as well …… okay, I’ll be on a treasure find of a top notch Germany riesling post that too ….

    You have motivated me πŸ˜‰

    TTF rock on …

  • I’ll try to drink a top notch reisling for ya πŸ™‚

  • True, buying the Jets is the main goal πŸ™‚

  • talking to oneself can be a bit boring…in the long run πŸ˜‰

  • hmm, I think I have to open something with licorice in it too. I will look under the bed, in the closet, inte the wine cabinet, in the hallway, in the bedroom corner, to see if I can find anything. (Yes, I need a real big cellar real quick!)

  • Have a good holiday my dear. πŸ˜‰

  • Agree, just patronizing the peeps who have been with him for son long. I admire him for that.

  • Rust en Verde Estate 2004. 58% Cab Sauv, 29% Shiraz, 13% Merlot. Dark brick and crimson red. Sniffy sniff reveal strong oak aromas almost juniper wood, hints of dark fruits, plum and blackcurrant. A streak of dry dirt and some red pepper is also there.. A first taste explodes with licorice cough syrup note, just for a second, then Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics with blackcurrant flavour, almost jelly like with some pencil shavings followed by with a really spicy and plum note from the Shiraz. Lots of tannin on the mid palate with pepper and chili. Back end emphasise the smooth character of the wine and bring a lot of dry dirt, , pepper and some blackberry from the Merlot, the finish is medium long and maybe this wines only flaw, it is a bit to hot, cant tell if it is the alcohol (14,5) or the tannins and pepper feel. This wine have nice transitions and structure. Being an 2004 it still shows excellent ageing potential. To bad it was my only bottle. 2007 is on sale at the state monopoly, maybe this is a investment to make. But it is almost 50 dollars.

Served with grilled burger, roasted potatoes ,baby plum tomatoes and a feta cheese Crème fraiche sauce. (Thank you sweetheart, it was delicious, there is some chocolate cheescake in the fridge that I made for you)

  • Lisa S

You, too, D. Enjoy the weekend.. I think you mentioned crab from Chesapeake Bay? Oh so good!
