EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

  • Lisa S

Dude, your enthusiasm is contagious!!! 🙂

  • Lisa S

Wow Anders! Great review.. I love the descriptives..”dry dirt” 🙂 Sounds like an interesting wine. Great meal, too!! You and your sweetheart are too cute.

Personally, I have yet to try a cab-shiraz blend that I like and I have tried many, although I would try this one based on your review. Thx.

  • and your comment was no 2000. Good work Lisa.

  • Lisa S

It was?? It was! Thanks, Anders. What do I win??? 🙂

  • Name your wine?

  • In spirit of 2000 comments. A wine related thingy

very nice !!! good work my man …..

  • John__J

Wanted to pop in and say hi. I’ve got a Sforzato di Valtellina I’ll be popping in the next day or 2. Never had one before and I’m psyched to try it, notes on it to follow.

(In case anyone doesn’t know they’re made in the same style as Amarone but they come from the Lombardy region of Italy and they’re made from 100% Nebbiolo.)

  • Lisa S

    Anders!
I forgot that you do chocolate reviews! What a great post on this occasion! Well done! I love chocolate. What are your favorites??? Dark, milk? Brand?
Nothing beats European chocolate in my opinion. Thanks for great video and the chance to see you “live”.

  • Lisa S

    🙂 How about this?
1996 Henriot Cuvee des Enchanteleurs. 🙂

  • Lisa S

Hi John, Are you still moving (or on the move)? Have a nice Memorial day weekend! L

    TTF … 😉

    The 2001 Dead Arm Shiraz.
First off any wine that has the beginning of that port like browning gets my attention fast. It’s so nice to enjoy a wine that has some age to it. It makes me flash back to where I was back in the day. Me and my dearly departed pouch were having such a great time in life 😉

To the wine …… Visually, medium to medium dark in color. On the nose a spiciness that hits you like a ton of bricks with hints of blackberries & lightly toasted oak. On the entry a nicely weighted wine with vibrant berry flavors and crushed dark red bricks/graphite (not earthiness). The wine quickly shifts into a slightly sour cherry finish that last 30 plus seconds. The wine ends with the glass being coated with finely processed sediment. If you have had a bunch of well aged wine then you know what I mean. (I’m hoping the Dominus 2001 that I’ll be tasting soon will have this too)

Rating 92+ … with the homemade Spaghetti Bolognese sauce over a chunk of sour french baguette with lightly sprinkled parmesan cheese …. 93+

The rain here in Northern California is making this red wine experience very enjoyable indeed …. what a spring/summer here.

Off to Tahoe tomorrow and a 4 to 5 star foodie experience at the Steak house ” Friday Station” at Harrah’s ….. what ever will I bring ????? Napa/Australian/Spanish/Italian or French ….
Time to raid the cellar 😉

  • baller!! 🙂

  • reads terrific, but at 150 dollars??? Maybe I should ask Dominus, John, NWIDan and TP to help me out ? 😀

  • Lisa S

Hahaha! On second thought, how about a nice bar of chocolate?

  • Lisa S

Have fun in Tahoe.. I’ve always loved Friday’s Station Restaurant. I’m waiting for the snow to melt before I visit this year..Typical Calif girl.. can’t drive in snow and no 4-wheel drive. Yeah, what is up with this weather? I am headed to Carmel-by-the-sea and Monterey for a day trip. 🙂

  • John__J

    You too Lisa!

Still moving, should be done by Tues. It’s taking longer as I’m ending one job and starting another at the same time. Could be a few days before I’m around.

  • that I can fix. I think you wrote and adress somewhere here.

  • Wow, my man knows how to enjoy the holiday!

    Cheers!

  • Two of my most favoritest (that’s a word) places in the world. Gorgeous and oh so high rent.

Have a wonderful time with Clint. (Do you feel lucky . . . ?)

  • I will make a contribution. I have paypal if that helps. 😉

  • Lisa S

Well how about that? “Favoritest” is a word! 🙂

Yeah, mine too, Dom… I would live in Carmel in a minute if I could, but, like you say, it’s so high rent! At least it’s only an hour-and-a-half drive so a nice wknd getaway. No Clint sighting this time, but he is the real deal… unassuming, down-to-earth and a really good guy. Still looks good at 80. Lucky indeed.

Ended the day in Carmel Valley at the Talbott wine tasting room. It was packed with people. I tasted 9 wines. The 2009 Talbott Sleepy Hollow Chard and Pinot Noir were excellent, as was the Talbott Cuvee Carlotta chardonnay. The Diamond T and Logan Chards were a bit too oaky for moi.

The only one I did not like was the Kali Hart Pinot Noir, which is their low-end pinot noir.

The gal pouring the wine said that the 08 Talbott Sleepy Hollow Pinot Noir was fantastic.. Apparently Tony Blair was staying down the road in Big Sur a month or two ago and bought the last case, along with a case of Talbott Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay.
I wonder how they ship this back to England? 🙂 L

  • Lisa S

I truly appreciate it, but absolutely not… You’ll spend a fortune on shipping and with my luck it will get caught up in Customs! Thanks for “sweet” offer, though!

(PS: What, you’re now the Gift Dept at WL??) 🙂

  • Lisa S

    😉

  • That is no problem. I’ll buy the chocolate online by a US company and ship it for a fraction of the cost. That is what I do when buying wine for my brother over there. It’s a new world 🙂

  • Lisa S

Thanks, Anders. You are too kind but not necessary. You guys are the “prize” here.. No need for anything else. Cheers!

PS: You noted on your video that you are “soon to be 50” When is the big birthday??????

  • Anonymous

What a great wine tasting !!!!! The Logan is usually not to oaky …. will have to check it out.

Sounds like a great weekend. 😉 June 8th count down 😉

  • Anonymous

    notes ??

  • Anonymous

    i’m in 😉

  • Lisa S

Yeah, man.. countdown.. Ummm.. how will I recognize you? I’m sure your profile pic doesn’t do you justice. 🙂

For my palate, Logan Chard usually has too much oak and is more full-bodied than the others….. but you like Rombauer so that explains why you wouldn’t think it has too much oak. 😉

Well, how was Tahoe? I heard that just last Monday Hwy 50 was closed due to snow.. how was weather? Dinner? Wine? Blackjack? Poker? 🙂

  • 1 st of september. The 3rd me and my seetheart go to Australia and then to New Zeeland and then to Hawaii and then to San Fran taking a car up to my brother in Oregon City and then home and then I’ll be broke 🙂 I’ll be hitting wine spots all the way so i probably be tipsy all the way too 😉

  • ALLAN2.0

WOW, you look away two seconds, and then BOOM, 2000+ comments. Congrats to all involved, you know who you are……. But, please, give it a rest now, ok? 😉

  • Why? Welcome to the gang. Review a wine, give your best food tip or just hang out for a while 🙂

  • I’m a man of few means but I do save my money. But sometimes I reach deep and splurge. I did that today. Bought a Bottle of Dominus 1992 at an auction. Thinking of our friend here I thought, I just have to try the alias wine 🙂

  • Lisa S

Are we bothering you Alan? 🙂

  • Lisa S

Running out of room here.. so I’ll be brief. What a fabulous vacation you have planned! I hope to do something similar when I turn 50, otherwise I’ll need to be medicated.. (IV drug sedation is not off the table). Hey, keep us posted, Anders.. some of us Vayniaks will want to see you while you’re in SF!

  • are you guys on FB? Easier to post from mobile when on the road 🙂

Thanks For all The Good Reviews Gary Check out My Wine Review Videos At Wineuptv.com The Wizard Of Wine

  • checked it out and it’s a little bit to much going on there, banners, adverts, shoppingchart, is it a wine show or a sell show? Learn from the master watch 1000 eps here

  • Enjoy my friend, enjoy and thank you for the thoughts. It’s deeply appreciated. 🙂

  • Nope, we’re not resting til the fat lady sings or Mott turns out the lights.

  • Tony Blair? Ohmigosh. He has to be one of my most favorite politicians of all time. No one is more articulate with the English language.

On that subject, tomorrow evening I’ll be attending the David Ignatius discussion on “Bloodmoney.” It should be fun.

    No rest EVER!
We may have to get 3000!

    TTF
    Nostrovia!

  • Huge fan, congrats on 1,000 shows!!

  • Gary, do you play golf?

Speaking of Zinfandel (over at DG, that is):

    I have a few reviews: 🙂

Foxglove 2009 Zinfandel (Paso Robles): $12. oh my goodness, I am surprised at the heat. This is one hot wine and not in a good way… and this is day 2! It’s still as strong as it was yesterday.. Alcohol is 14.7%. Hmmmm… Would not buy this again. Nice fruit – borderline fruit bomb, but I’m in the mood so it’s not a total waste… 85 pts. LS
Dom, needless to say, you would NOT like this zin.

    Haywood vs Haywood:

    1. 2006 Haywood “Rocky Terrace” Sonoma Valley Zinfandel
    http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1053195
I loved this wine.. very well structured.. Almost cab-like. Not a fruit bomb.. although nice cherry, spice, plum, wood and a bit of smoke and pepper. I would buy this again. 91 pts. $30

    2. 2006 Haywood-Los-Chamizal-Zinfandel-Zinfandel
    http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDetail.aspx?N=4294967027+4294967232+63&area=home&ProductID=34809
This was similar to the above, Rocky Terrace, except not as complex. A very nice zin as well.. not fruit bomb.. well, structured, light body..88 pts. If I had to choose one, I would go with the 2006 Rocky Terrace above.
Thank you, Dom, for suggesting Haywood.

Lastly, I used to be a fan of Ridge.. but not impressed with last two vintages. The 07 Lytton Springs was very disappointing.. Just had the 08 Ridge Geyserville at a tasting, and was also disappointed. I hear that Ridge may be expanding production and that may be the reason.. buying grapes from other sources?. (growing pains?)

For a consistently good zin, I like Seghesio Rockpile and also Seghesio Home Ranch.
Carlisle is my new favorite, but hard to find (small production).

Turley has been making some nice Zins lately (less of a fruit bomb). I had a nice one at a Beltramo’s tasting a few months ago, but by the time I left the tasting room, it was sold out. 🙁

Lastly, St Amant in Lodi makes a great zin. Can’t remember which one, but Cellarrat5 brought it to Vayniak get-together last January and it was impressive. He works there, too.

    Cheers!
    L

  • Lisa S

I couldn’t agree more about Tony Blair… I’ve had a mild crush on him for years. I cringed whenever he would do a press conference with Bush. Painful, just painful! Poor Tony. This is where he stayed in Big Sur: http://www.postranchinn.com/

Have a great time tomorrow.. So glad you’re going to this event. I’ll be waiting for a report!

  • Lisa S

Oh yes.. How could we forget the Facebook discussion from last week? 🙂 Anyway, I just sent you a friend request.
