EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

  • Anonymous

    Moving done yet ???? πŸ˜‰

  • Lisa S

I don’t golf, but have been to The Lodge at Pebble Beach a few times.. The last time was during the Pebble Beach Pro Am some time in the late 90s. Beautiful!!! I can’t recall if I’ve been to the Inn at Spanish Bay? I’ve driven past it several times and I organized an event there a few yrs ago, but I did not attend. How did that happen? πŸ™‚

  • Nice Lisa. I’m not a zin drinker, due to the fact that not a lot of US wine come here (quality that is) Had a Ridge geyersville 06 and that was nice, have on bottle left in the “cellar”

  • Gary do not play golf, but he is the market for a personal trainer… http://www.facebook.com/gary

  • ALLAN2.0

Sippin’ some ’05 Shaw And Smith Shiraz (yes, I got The Shiraz Blues), and can only recommend it highly to the fellow peeps on WL. It’s definitely better than the Yellow Tail I had the other day, but isn’t anything??? πŸ˜‰

    Cheers!

  • ALLAN2.0

    Top 2046!!!! :)))

  • ALLAN2.0

Or is it 2062? I’ve lost count, Who cares?

  • John__J

98% TP, happy to have it pretty much done. The Sforzato di Valtellina was a ’99 from Canua Conti Sertoli Salis. I would have like to have popped it a year or two earlier in hindsight but it was still quite good. I had it a couple days ago so bare with me on the review, but I remember it being rich, full bodied, a hint of raisin and dried cherry, chocolate, earth, mocha, rose petal with a slight herbal note.

  • John__J

Great reviews, reminds me I’ve been off for zin’s for a while now. I’ll have to try one again soon, I may steer away from Ridge at 1st after hearing what you’ve had to say Lisa. Although in their prior vintages, I’ve really enjoyed their wines.

  • Lisa S

Hi JJ: I’ve heard similar reactions to mine from a few others, re Lytton Springs and Geyserville ’07/’08..I liked prior vintages however. Their Chardonnays are surprisingly very good. The “Three Valleys” blend is still pretty good though..

  • Lisa S

Anders, The 06 Geyserville was very good. Wow.. am surprised you were able to get it over there.

  • Actually one can order 3 different Ridge. Monte Bello, Geyersville and Lytton Springs. They are expensive.. 50-55 bones. It seems there is one importer of these.

  • its 2066 Allan, 2066 πŸ™‚

  • and a bit more costly to my friend πŸ™‚ It sells fΓΆr 200 dkr here in Sweden (ca $30)

Been playing catch up over at DG as I missed the last 3 due to my move.
Noticed on the Memorial day show I got a shout out when he introduced the Ridge Zin. I’m starting to wonder now if this is some running joke Gary has going, b/c outta the 4 or so times he’s mentioned me on a show (I imagine Dom, Kahuna and NYPete are far and away the shout out record holders), he was off about something :).

One time he said I was from Atlanta, the last time where I was mentioned along w Dom, among others, I think he said something then that wasn’t right (can’t even remember what lol), and now I got one for the Ridge he had on the show which I Didn’t request.

I went oddball and mentioned J. Lohr’s valdiguie for a cheap summer red you serve cold (just had the ’10, which isn’t nearly as good and is a good bit more simple than the ’09 was) and Summer’s Charbono.

Funny thing is the one time he had a wine on I requested, the vin jaune, I didn’t get the shout out. (He panned the wine too, but being that that wine needs to be at least 10 years old before popping, decanted a good 4+ hours and needs food and is similar to a dry sherry, I wasn’t the least bit surprised.)
Oh well any press is better than no press I guess :).

Gary should’ve mentioned Lisa S on the Memorial day episode, as she just went with some Ridge.

  • Yes, his shoutouts are nice but usually there are some “inaccuracies” that go along with it. I see some other comments to that effect on his latest episode.

Maybe he needs a “researcher”? πŸ˜‰

  • @AndersN

Is this guy any good? We just signed him.

  • I just adore the Haywood, one of the few Zins I can drink day in and day out since I’;m such a wuss when it comes to alcohol.

Off to see David Ignatius!!! Just wanted to stop by before leaving.

    Adios

  • I volunteer

  • John__J

It’s not a complaint of course by any means. It’s really cool that he does it, whereas most doing shows like that don’t even bother.

  • I’ll ask my boss, She is an avid hockey fan and have seen every homegame the last 35 years for FΓ€rjestads BK, this years Swedish champions (situated in Karlstads, my town of recidence). FBK is runned by HΓ₯kan Loob, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A5kan_Loob
FBK was also coached by Beng-Γ…ke Gustafsson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengt-%C3%85ke_Gustafsson in 2002 to a Swedish championship when Loob was executive sports manager . Lot’s of hockey history in my neighbourhood ). I’ll be back with the words on Mattias

  • John__J

So everyone talks about their fav wines. What varietals/regions/styles/blends are your least fav or could you do without?
(Besides the obvious white zin, if you count that as a wine.)

  • John__J

Most P. Grigio’s (NOT pinot gris, like the ones in Alsace) and over oaked Chardonnay come to mind immediately for me.

  • Good question John_J!

This takes some in-depth analysis of what sections of my wine shop do I avoid?

Though I love Italian wines in general, I have never been a fan of Barolo due to cost and consistency. Over-oaked Chards are a close 2nd and 3rd is most Chenin Blancs.

  • Understand πŸ™‚

  • Good to hear. All my homey Caps fans are asking. Of course, his rΓ©sumΓ© looks good but what do I know?

  • Don’t fret AndersN. I can get zins by the boatload and I stay away from most.

  • I’m an “LS” kinda guy.

P.S. David Ignatius was amazing tonight. He even gave me a “shoutout” in an analogy during his discussion. Just hope it makes it to youtube and I will share.

Hey Hey Hey …. I cut my teeth on Sutter Homes white zin πŸ™‚ however I have not had that wine since the mid 80″s so I guess your right I would not call it wine now, more of a mixer for wine coolers.

Anything Rose I don’t really care for.

  • Lisa S

Ha! Date wine! πŸ™‚ … I have a good story about white zin. In 1995, when I knew very little about wine, I was out with friends at Calif Cafe in Palo Alto, I ordered white zinfandel. I was scolded (somewhat mildly) and told “never to order that again.” “That’s not wine.” etc, etc. I was stunned… and that was the beginning of my education.

I don’t like 90% of the Pinot Grigio that I’ve had. Agree with Dom about Barolo… it’s not my thing. Rose is hit and miss.. Mostly miss.

  • Lisa S

Thx for nice thought, JJ…However I must admit I posted the above comment after DG memorial day episode aired. A shoutout would be nice in this lifetime however! πŸ™‚

  • the gloppy low budget wines from Australia stinking with artifical flavour and the watered down spanish shit that floats around Europe at disqount stores. Apart from that I pretty much love all types, regions… hmm I’m a bit of a drunk when I think of it πŸ™‚

  • The word is in from the boss. Mattias became her big idol when he came to FBK. Big strong, good attack and good defense. Always loyal and good at any spot. Not that high profile superstar, but a solid grinder that takes one for the team. Good potential to become a backbone of any team. She is very sad to lose him and wonders if it’s OK to join you to watch a game or two. I can mention that is unlike her, she don’t like flying, so he just has to be good πŸ˜€

  • Tell your boss by all means she can join me any time. She would also be able to see Ovie the Great 8 (that’s what we call him here) in action along with our fine city. If she likes wine, this spot is a hop, skip and a jump from the rink. http://www.proofdc.com/

Glad to see he is good. We need a grinder. Give my apologies to your boss. We will treat him well.

    Go Caps!

  • ALLAN2.0

I tend to forget stuff, but the Rhone Valley is mostly a nice place to place your drinking order πŸ˜‰

  • ALLAN2.0

Anybody out there have any recommendations on Spanish Wines?

  • You are a real baller Allan :). I think I have to take a sip of Skagen Bryghus Drachman just for that !

  • She’s a whisky fanatic …

  • John__J

Termes Numanthia out of Toro is quite good.

  • Papa Luna Calatayud are usually good. 80 dkr
Muga their reserva 2004 was good 150 dkr
Conde de Valdemar, but then ypu have to go to the upper end of their range
Vinedos y Bodegas Los ceperos made a sweet killer Monasterll that I liked, but I guess my palate changes a bit, it was a lot of sweet plum, licorice
