EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

I hear ya on some of those chenin’s. But when they’re done right (some Savennieres come to mind), they’re among my fav whites.

San Ramon Toro 2003 and 2004 got them from WL very good, but like all Spanish wines, needs a really good decant.

Caro Dorum 2005 has a bit more backbone than the San Ramon … Depends on your style.

El Nido 2006 most complex of the bunch.

La Basseta 2006 Priorat …. got as a gift and was highly recommended by high times in Orange County …

Let us know what you pop 😉

Slow chat day today on here I see. Guess I wasn’t the only one unable to get on here today as much as I would’ve liked.

  • Anonymous

yes. a bit busy today. but I’m gearing up for the weekend 😉

  • John__J

Hey AndersN, Have you ever had, seen or heard of Uhudler? I’ve read about them and would like to try one but have never found one where I live (the U.S.)
Everyone I talk to in person has never heard of it either. I thought since you’re in Sweden and therefore closer to where they’re made that you may have a better chance on this one than I have. I asked Dr. Loosen himself about them about a month ago and he had never heard of it either.

(In case you’re unaware of it, it’s an Austrian wine made with varietals not from the vinifera species, but from labrusca or others more commonly found in the “new world”. It’s probably a real simple $9 quaffing wine too, but it sounds so esoteric I’d love to get my hands on one.)

Looks like everyone taking a break 😉 Have a great weekend, drink a great wine, and post it up.

Time to go back to watching the French Open 😉

  • Federer still has it beating Novak. I was kind of surprised actually seeing how well Djokovic has been playing. I’m guessing Nadal should win the finals but you never know. That’s what makes Federer so great.

I’m actually cooking this today http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/garlic-crusted-roast-rack-of-lamb and pairing it with this Shiraz which received a good review in F&W. http://www.springseedwineco.com.au/wines/default.asp?wine=4.

For apps, I may do fried zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta cheese and prosciutto along with bruschetta with sun-dried tomatoes, cannellini beans with some shave Parmigiana. Since my friend is a huge beer drinker, I went out a bought this Belgian beer recommended by a guy at work. Check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvefWaKZmVI

I don’t think the G-Man has anything to worry about. 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone. Off to kick some butt on the tennis court. Gorgeous day here in DC.

    Cheers!

  • Hands down my favorite Spanish wine. GV turned me on to this beauty.

  • We drink alike. 😉

Oh goodness this is indeed the Twilight Zone!!! Wow.

The Clio is fantastic! Castello brought a bottle to our Vayniak get together last January and I loved it! It’s a big wine. I’ve been tempted to buy it ever since… and nobody can beat WL’s price on this. Thx for link, Dom! I’ll add it to my next order.

My wine gal at Bevmo turned me onto the Juan Gil a couple of yrs ago. What a great bottle for $12.

I’ll have to try the San Ramon Toro since you both mentioned it and I’ve learned to trust your palates. 🙂

  • Lisa S

Umm. what time should we be there for dinner?

TTF – Have any of you tried the Sean Minor Carneros Pinot Noir 2009?
    http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1060589

So here is my dilemma: I am planning a dinner event at a local country club for approx 80 people (work-related event). The catering menu doesn’t offer any decent pinot from what I can tell (Sean Minor, Hahn, Frei Brothers, or Acacia).. And there are many pinot noir lovers in this group, too.

The catering mgr told me to go out and try the Sean Minor for myself. She says she sells a ton of it and people love it. I find this hard to believe. So, if you’ve tried it, please let me know. Another option I’m considering is buying a case of something in the $20 range and bringing it to the event.. Corkage is $15 per bottle, but may be worth it. Thanks. L

  • Honestly, I’ve never heard of it so it could be spectacular. I will check WS to see what they say.

I attended a sales meeting in Georgetown a year or so ago and they had a pinot that was wonderful and inexpensive. Of course, I can’t remember the name but I’ll try to jog my memory.

    where u b ??? 😉

  • Lisa S

Thanks, Dom. I appreciate it. Yes, it is 4Bears. I saw it today at my local wine shop and picked up a bottle. I’ll taste it in the next couple of days and report back.

On another note, I tasted a few Chassagne Montrachets this afternoon and they were lovely!! I’ll post details once my headache goes away.

  • Anonymous

Hoping Fed plays his best win or lose 😉 A competitive match would be the best.

Are you a chef …. all the stuff you post sounds fantastic.

You watching the hockey ??? I’m pulling for Vancouver only because I went there and to the butchart gardens once. Great trip!

Rainy here in Nor Cal ….

Resting my taste buds for the big “Dominus” dinner/tasting in SF this up coming week.

TTF Wish you all were coming would have been the best …. I’ll post something after I recover 😉

Doughnuts and wine …… Never had that pairing 😉

I’ve had beer and omelets, after a morning workout, when I was in college training with some german teammates

This was actually a nice pairing 😉

  • Have a friend that been a lot to Austria and Germany and drunk that on some occasion. It is mainly sold in Austria and the south of Germany. Haven’t seen in Sweden and cannot find it in the state monopoly database. wine-.searcher.com only list Austria ans ome German retailers.

  • John__J

I wish I was too :), have fun!

  • John__J

I can see that. Makes me think what wine would you pair with an omelet?

  • John__J

I saw the same thing, only in Austria and some Germany. Only increases my desire to get my hands on one. (Even though I’m aware there’s probably not much to that wine at all.)

  • ALLAN2.0

Wasn’t it Einstein who said; Great minds drink alike? ;)=)==)))))

  • ALLAN2.0

Ok let’s celebrate WL with; What’s your favourite quote of the entire series ?

  • I am soooo jealous.

Have a stellar time with some magnificent wines and Lisa. Nice 😉

  • Ahhh the dreaded copious amounts of wine headache. I had one this morning but it’s gone now so out to the tennis court.

Nadal was an animal today. Wow

  • I’m a chef in my own mind. I take some lessons and attend cooking demos at my favorite restaurant in the DC area called L’Auberge Chez Francois. I’m sure John_J can vouch for them.

Yes, watching hockey and am pulling for Vancouver too. Last night’s game was amazing. I’ve never been to Vancouver, only Montreal and Quebec City but hear it’s beautiful.

Lows 80s, low humidity here. Drop dead gorgeous so to the tennis court to hit a few and then grille some salmon with a honey mustard glaze. I’ll pair it will a Ken Wright Pinot from down in the mini-cellar.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

  • Any time my dear, any time. 😉

P.S. It turned out quite well if I say so myself and I’m my worst critic. Kinda easy though.

  • Good one!

  • Just a note on a Sunday afternoon. Isn’t it so much better to navigate over here in the comment section? Where’s Dan when you need him?

I wonder why they can’t emulate the tool “over there”?

  • Oooooh, that’s a good one.

  • Lisa S

Yes and yes. (Where is Dan?)

  • Lisa S

Wait.. am I supposed to be “resting my taste buds” for Wednesday? Uh oh.

  • Lisa S

Can’t wait to try your namesake wine. We’ll definitely make a toast to you! 😉

  • Lisa S

Yeah, I watched some of it and I don’t even play tennis. I had tennis elbow once… does that count?

Headache is better.. thank goodness. Migraines are a bitch. Worst thing for it is alcohol and I did drink copious amounts and paid the price. Yeah I know better but couldn’t resist.. Cakebread and Duckhorn sauvignon blanc and then Chassagne Montrachets. Yum. 🙂

  • Lisa S

Your apps sounded amazing. I’m sure it was all fabulous.. How was the Shiraz? The labels were beautiful!

  • ALLAN2.0

Last time i saw him, he was swimming around in a bowle of vino….

Awww such a perfect comment TTF 😉 Now I hope you never get your like / edit buttons over there so you’ll stick around over here a bit more…. Just kidding ….. although it has been awhile to get those things implemented over at DG. Maybe they have a very small budget 😉

On a unrelated topic …… I’m chomping at the bit for some Dominus wine !!!!

  • Anonymous

would have love to see how things would have turned out if Fed had made that drop shot set point or held serve to win the first set 😉 …. Hats off to Rafa !!!
