EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

What is going on this weekend TTF? It is going to be crisp and wet here in Chicago and NWIndiana. I have opened a Bin 36 Cabernet Sauvignon Central Coast 2009, a Hahn Winery product. Looking forward to the first sip. May be a bit young by the nose, I still can’t wait.

    TTF!

Drinking a Merry Edwards 2007 RR Pinot – Tobias Glen …… Very nice 🙂

    Hot here in Sacto !!!

  • Lisa S

Hi Dan – Been traveling a bit lately. Was in Monterey/Carmel last week.. Let’s see.. I had a nice chardonnay the other day at a restaurant, “Newton (red-label)” very nice and balanced oak and fruit. Last night I opened a bottle of Hitching Post 07 St Rita’s Earth Pinot Noir…pretty good! (wish I was back at the restaurant though).

It’s opera season and I am seeing Turandot tomorrow in San Francisco.

Looking forward to seeing Anders in SF on Oct 4th. Wish you and our East Coast friends (Dom and John J) could join us.

    Have a great weekend!

  • Lisa S

Dude, it’s always hot in Sacramento. I was just talking about Merry Edwards pinot noir with someone at work yesterday. We made a deal to swap bottles. I’ll give him something for a bottle of Merry Edwards (have only had it once before). … Hmmmm. What do I want to swap?

I’ll send you details on Anders SF get-together on Oct 4th. Hope you can make it. L

Wrong, wait a week, it will not be hot anymore…

Harvest is upon us… brace for impact…

  • Lisa S

    Wishful thinking? 🙂 Just kidding.

  • John__J

I was just got back from the west coast actually, but I was up in Seattle.

  • John__J

If you like smoky, meaty, gamy, syrah’s loaded with bacon, Cadaretta out of Washington state makes a really good one that won’t break the bank.

  • I am watching Sideways now. 😉

  • Lisa S

With a glass of Sea Smoke? 😉
    Love that movie.

  • Lisa S

Bad timing! You should come out here on Oct 4.
    Seattle is a nice city!

  • I jumped through the roof when I saw that scene! Botella on top of that so I went downstairs to make sure I still had a bottle of that wonderful nectar.

Gosh it sucks not having WLTV or even (G-d forbid) DG to get us through each evening. 😉

  • Please give us the details. 😉

  • Can I find it in Ellicott City? I traipsed through their last weekend but did not stop at the wine shop.

  • John__J

Tough to say as I only deal with on premise (restaurants). However Dave up at the Wine Bin will definitely bring it in for you. Just call or email him, it’s Cadaretta Syrah and Southern Wine & Spirits is the distributor in MD, (which he’ll need to know to order it).

  • Mia

Oh fuck, I am seeing you for the first time and you scared the shit out of me in the first few seconds:)

  • John__J

a day late and a dollar short

  • Lisa S

Oh was it a Botella? Sea Smoke was/is a favorite of the movie director’s wife.

So true!! I miss Gary and the community banter.

Wish we could join also, Lisa. How great would that be? HP’s Pinot Noir’s are, I must say, very NICE! I have enjoyed them quite a bit. I am still trying to make it out in November and if I do The Hitching Post I’m sure will be on the schedule along with some tasting and golf.

I totally miss you guys. I was just thinking of you guys last night and saying how I need to get back on and converse. Knowing that GV isn’t doing the shows any longer makes it hard to come back and jump on. So now it is an every other kind day thing or when I get to missing all of you. Wish there was some way we could all get together and tie-on a weekend. That’s right! The whole weekend! Is the trip to Las Vegas still on with the Cali Vaynernation? I’m sure I will be opening something new this weekend and I will try and share! Miss you guys! 🙁

    TTF!

Cr5, how is the harvest going? What does the grapes look like for this year? Is it going to be a good year or a so-so year? Missy You Brother! 🙁

  • John__J

Here’s a link to the awesome Master Somm Fred Dex doing a guest appearance on a wine blog about carmenere and wines of Chile.
The only drawback is the host has this weird urge to try and talk over him and finish his sentences whenever he can.
I still enjoyed it a lot. Just scroll down a bit to get to it when you get to the page.

  • Miss u guys – loved this wine http://pinterest.com/pin/259979211/

    Beringer Reserve 2007 ….. Yummy !!!

Harvest is going, it also seems its going to be another weird year. Yields seem to generally be down across the board, although our Amador Vineyards always go against the grain. We have crushed our first 40 tons or so, and we are just getting started. The sugars and color extraction looks decent, similar to last year. But the proof with be in the vinos pudding so to speak, in 10 months to a year or so. Wine Making; and exercise in delayed gratification. Hope all are well.

  • Sounds likely my kind of drink

  • Miss your wine ranting too. Found great Malbec in Hawke Bay , NZ.

  • Had a 14 hands cab that was decent.

  • Lisa S

Yes, it is decent and sells for under $12 a bottle around here.. if you can find it. You’ll see it on restaurant menus (wines by the glass) more than in the stores.

  • I tried to link up to this wine via twitter on my CrackBerry and, of course, it would not work.

I will definitely get some of this nectar.

I was shopping at the neighborhood World Market and saw the 14 Hands but instead settled for a Gerard Bertrand Corbieres that WE touted as their “Best Buy” winery which I will pair with grilled ribs tomorrow watching the Redskins game at a friend’s house. I also bought a bottle of Apothic Red which is a fun cab to drink. It’s about as sugarfied and grape bubble gum chew as they come but again, fun since I know what I’m getting for 10 bones.

    Cheers!

  • Malbec from NZ? Wanna share any more info?

  • Crush has started? I have a friend who owns a vineyard near Carmel and I may be taking the trip to work his fields. I need to get in touch with him.

  • Sandra Oh or the current one? 😉

  • Lisa S

😉 Oh yeah… I forgot he was married to Sandra Oh!! Neither one.. I was mistaken, it was Alexander Payne himself who was a fan of Sea Smoke and worked it into the movie.

BTW: The first time I ever heard of Sandra Oh was a few yrs before Sideways and Grey’s Anatomy.. I saw her 10 yrs ago in NYC in an off-Broadway show (The Vagina Monologues). Don’t ask. 😉

  • Lisa S

TP and Dominus: I am finally drinking the San Roman Toro 2006 – you two recommended it about 6 pages ago.

I bought this a few months ago (great three-pack deal on WL with a cab and Cdp) I didn’t decant. It opened up nicely after an hour… Deep, dark inky red, tannic..Reminds me of a petit sirah, but more complex and tannic. Great wine and a great deal on WL. I may need to buy more.

  • Lisa S

2006 San Roman Toro – Tennispro and Dom, You two recommended this (or one of you did and the other agreed) a few months ago and I bought it soon after that from WL (great 3-pack deal with a cab and CdP). It opened up nicely after about an hour. Deep, dark, inky and tannic.. Very good wine.. Reminds me of a petite sirah but more complex. Paired well with a steak. I give it 92 pts.
    Thanks, guys.

  • John__J

Nice to hear from you Gary. Thanks for the rec.
Checkout Brokenwood’s Hunter Valley Semillon, you won’t be disappointed.

  • John__J

    ditto what Dom said.

  • New episode of Winegazer TV featuring a ’09 “Tres Picos” Grenacha coming from the folks at Borsao in celebration of #Grenache Day 2011.

    http://www.winegazer.com/winereviews/winegazer-tv-episode-4-grenache-day-2011/

  • Yayyyy, glad you liked it. I, too, opened up my last bottle that I found stashed away downstairs and thought it was a tad different (in my feeble mind) than the last time I tried it. Still good but not spectacular. 92 hits it on the head.

Hope all is well with everyone.

  • I just ordered some and will leave my notes in a few days. I’m a sucker for nice labels.

  • John__J

    Dear Gary,
In response to your WLTV post on Facebook where you said “I miss it!”, not 2 hours ago today:

No offense Gary but YOU’RE the one who gave it up man! So while I and others will be there should you come back, whether once in a while, or weekly, or whatever, I’d personally feel a little foolish if I got in line in the comments and begged you to come back.
But it would be nice if you did.

  • John__J

I’d like to stress that I wasn’t trying to be cold with the above remark and meant no offense. “I miss it” came across differently to me than when you said “I miss you guys” before.

  • Lisa S

Interesting that we score it the same.. Very good, but not spectacular. Great minds.. 🙂

  • Lisa S

    RIP Steve Jobs. Very sad.

  • Anonymous

Lisa, Steve went 10 years longer than what they expected him too. Any type of cancer is terrible, but Pancreatic is the worst. I have had to many family members that are fighting it and die from it and just as many, probably more, friends that have been stricken with it. So true, VERY SAD!

Here we are on another Friday and the weekend. I am working on a 2007 Basel Cellars “M” Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla, Washington – Columbia Valley. Priced in that $15 to $20 price range and I am really liking what I am tasting. 😉

  • Lisa S

Yes, Dan, it is a terrible disease and survival rate for pancreatic cancer is especially grim. However, he had a rare, neuroendocrine-type tumor that was caught early (pancreatic cancer is almost never caught early)..so that’s why he lived longer than most. Still can’t believe he’s gone. I’ve followed his professional life since I first moved to Silicon Valley in the 80s.. He lived about 3 miles away in a “regular” neighborhood in downtown Palo Alto, near Stanford. Sigh.

  • John__J

Awesome. I’ve been learning to appreciate Washington state wines 10 fold lately, dynamite wines going on up there.

  • John__J

I’ll join in with Dan and go with a 2007 this evening as well. Domaine du Mas Blanc “Junquets” from the Collioure appellation of France.
