EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

  • In about 6 hours I begin my first wine test. 15 questions about any fact about the old world and then a practical test 4 wines. If I pass I’ve become a grade 1 (lowest grade)Munskรคnk. Then off to a grape course in autumn and grade 2 course next spring.

  • Good luck my friend. I bet you ace it.

  • Sweden sounds good to me. Now if Bjorn Borg was in town. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • You got it! Yippee! Not bad at all for 10 bones.

  • Tonight I’m having another Oregon pinot called Illahe. Very nice, not too complex but the usual cherries et al. Easy to quaff with an roasted herb Cornish hen. Yum

  • Lisa S

Let us know what happened. I’m sure you passed. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Lisa S

I’ve never heard of Illahe. Will check it out. Thanks, Dom.

It’s been a very rough week..(lost a good friend to cancer. He was only 34 y.o. too). So… I had to pop open a really nice bottle in his honor. 2007 Sojourn – Sangiacomo vineyard pinot. Delicious.. This is day 2 and it’s drinking beautifully. Initially it took 2 hours to open and show it’s stuff. Cherries, earth, and lots of spice. I’ve paired it with marinated green olives and black truffle Gouda cheese and crackers. Damn… I just noticed that the cheese is $26 a pound. Oh well. Yummy!

  • Pretty impressive the number of comments that this final video is still attracting! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • The theoretical part yes, 100%. The practical I missed the whites. Have to practice more, I’m really bad with whites and the acid analysis of them. Have to redo that part. Reds no problem.

  • I’ll check ๐Ÿ™‚

Greetings fellow faithful compatriots! I am going to mix it up a little bit here, and urge everyone to try a beer (gasp) if they have not already done so. The beer I would like as many people to try as possible is Russian River Brewery?s Sanctification. For those of you who are not from the left coast these guys are about as close to a winery as breweries get (also they happen to be located in Santa Rosa, very close to Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles and a handful of other wine regions). This beer is brewed with 100% Brett, and is FANTASTIC. Crisp, clean, seamless and extremely well balanced. The Brett does not overpower the awesome citrus acidity or the slightly subdued spice this beer has to offer. I also would recommend Consecration and Supplication (they often age their beer in Pinot or Chardonnay barrels), these are some of the more wine like beers out there people, get your hands on some if you can (they also have a great deal of ageing potential as well, just ask Randal if he ever comes online again).

  • It’s not the final video my friend that is impressive but the 999 that preceded it. These comments are a testament to the community of wine-loving and life-living friendships we have nurtured and shared for the past 6 years on this forum.

We are just fortunate enough that Gary has kept this website alive (along with Mott’s monitoring) so we can keep the Vayniac Nation alive and well.

    Cheers!

Congrats on 1,000. I just recently started watching a few months ago but I am glad you stayed with it. Otherwise, I would not have been so fortunate.

  • I just came across, what I thought was an interesting tweet.

    Gary Vaynerchuk ? @garyvee

So I have been thinking of this idea : I ( @winelibrary ) want your wine business! Email me how I can get it ๐Ÿ™‚ gary @ winelibrary .com

My answer: Here’s a novel idea. Produce a daily video where you review a few wines from different regions and give your unbiased opinions and mix in some sports and other relevant topics. Link these wines to your wine shop and that should help. No?

    Cheers!

  • Well, well, Look at the cute little turnips around here. I see you kept up the place. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope everyone is doing well. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • A fabulous response Dominus. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • RRRRRAAAAATTTTT@@@@!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Stuff me in your suitcase. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Lisa S

๐Ÿ™‚ Well thank goodness you’re back. We need a little more estrogen around here.

  • Lisa S

Hahahaha! Yes, what a novel concept indeed. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Tried Supplication it because someone (guess who) here gave it to me and it was just remarkable.

  • Let the man rest, once a week is OK i my book ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Are you saying that it is to much testosterone here? I don’t think so with the average age in mind ๐Ÿ˜€

  • cellarrat5

They make amazing beer in general. If you get a chance you should try some of their other “Belgian Style” ales, most of them are spectacular.

  • cellarrat5

    Nostrovia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NWIndianaDan

Here is my report on the 2009 Sbragia Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Andolsen Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County:

The Look; the color is a deep ruby red and very pleasing to the eye.

On the Aroma; I get Black Raspberries, Plum, Sweet Tobacco like if you ever have tried “Red Man”, Licorice, Smoke and when you get that first whiff of morning dew on the soil.

My Taste; I get Currant, Lots of Black Fruit that pops on the front of the palate. The wine has good structure, Well balance, long lasting through out the palate with a smooth mouth feel.

I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with the full roundness of this wine. I will have to rate this with: 90

    The link is above.

    NOSTROVIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are waiting GV, don’t leave us hanging!

  • I second that emotion. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • He was a good sport and responded “AHAHAHAHAHAHA”

    He’s our guy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • If you ever wanted to try a Greek red, may I suggest this one. It has a great QPR.

    http://www.estate-argyros.com/Atlantis-red.html

I had it before a Caps/Bruins game a week or so ago at one of my fav places in DC http://www.zaytinya.com/ paired with a lamb tapa and some other dishes and it was the hit of the day. It became one of those “gotta have it” wines and I found it.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather. I just returned from a day fishing on the Chesapeake Bay and caught a 34″ Rockfish. Yummmm!

    P.S. Go Caps!!

  • Gary, we’re all sitting quietly in our seats waiting for your return!

  • Lisa S

๐Ÿ™‚ Great catch, Dom. Will order a couple of bottles of the Atlantis Red now. Thank you. I need help finding good Greek wines. I am pretty sure I visited this winery on the island of Santorini back in 08. The whites were too acidic for me, but I liked the reds. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Lisa S

So I decided to pop open a 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape – Domaine Chante Cigale. I bought this a year ago on sale for $26. Not very complex but full-bodied, lots of earth, black fruit, olive.. paired well with my pasta dish. I think it was appropriately priced.. ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheers!

  • Godonya sheila ๐Ÿ™‚
A visit to Copenhagen last weekend resulted in a really bad cold so there are no wines to tell about, what’s the point drinking wine when there is no smell or taste. But I’ll be back soon.

  • Rockfish, I wonder what that is in Swedish…. Look nicve, taste like? what wine to pair?

  • Lisa S

Feel better soon! Maybe a glass of wine (or whiskey) will kill the germs. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • John__J

yeah hope you get well soon!
