EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

  • Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the hot as Hades summer with a nice, cool white overlooking the waves or wading in a pool.

  • Today we had a summers day and I tasted two beers to finish the day off.
Hope you have a cool white and wading the pool. Me are going to the raiiny England for some golf watching and maybe some more beer drinking.

    SkΓ₯l Dom

  • Very nice. Did you see Adam Scott’s major fold but at least a great guy, Ernie Elss won. As long as Tiger didn’t win, it was a good result.

Here’s a nice white I had yesterday. Absolutely delish.

    Cheers

  • Yes I did se his bogeys on 15, 17 and 18. I saw the magnificent drive Els did on 18, I said to Carina after 17 that els will reall try to hit it long to get a chance of a birdie on 18 and boy was that driva long. Had a very, very good week in Blackpool ( kind of a seaside resort runned down) but St Annes and the course was beautiful.
It was kind of sureal to see the entorgae of Tiger, 11 cameras followed him and only 3 the leaders. Rude bodyguards ands marshals, but I understand why. people were really misbehaving, shouting, talking. I can’t see why so many small boys like Tiger and no one lese (maybe Rory). But all in all. Fantastic to bben there. I’m thanking my sweetheart every hour for this present πŸ™‚

  • NWIndianaDan

I am glad to hear you had a great time at “The Open”. What a great lady to spring for the trip. Don’t ever feel bad for Tiger. He deserves every bit of what he gets. He is rude, on and off the course, and doesn’t care about anyone but himself. As far as the kids all liking this guy, it is all in the marketing. There has never been anyone as great as “The Golden Bear”and never will be. I really liked Payne Stewart but his life was cut way to short. Talk about a swing, that was beautiful to watch. Tell your beautiful wife she is a saint!

    Nostrovia!

  • NWIndianaDan

Dom, I have been enjoying a lot more whites this summer than usual and of course Pinot Noir’s. The heat and humidity is taking the life right out of this summer.

  • I’m telling her all the time. No I wonder what she’s gotta give for my 60 th πŸ˜€

We have had a miserablae summer here until now. I haven’t played a singel round of golf yet, must try to get a lot of rounds in the next 6-8 weeks, I fear that winter may come early with all this crazy weather.

    SkΓ₯l.

  • Lisa S

You all need to move to Northern California! Great weather so far! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. πŸ™‚

  • Partha Dutta

The palate it is very dry up front with red berries, minute vanilla streaks and nice white pepper, tannins fine grains of saw dust and medium hot. http://amusingtvshow.blogspot.com

  • So what wine are we talking here? Blog spam or a regular existing wine with a name?

  • I sent in my list of 32 different wines CdP 2007 to the monopoly to maybe get them auctioned off and the reply came, Yes they would like to sell them and asking price was good so I’ll think I have to go to Stockholm with them and turn them over for inspection. That must be worth some sort of celebration today, don’t ya think?

    SkΓ₯l vΓ€nner

  • Lisa S

Wow.. no kidding? Save at least a few bottles for yourself, please. Good luck!

  • I do have 2 bottles of everyone and only selling one so I will surely have enough CdP 07 to drink the next few years πŸ™‚

  • Actually took a Vieux Lazaret Cdp 08 Blanc for dinner last night. Nice grape, pear and white flower nose. On the palate it was lush and dry with pear, lychee, white peach followed by a stoney feel ( i don’t know why but yellow stone comes to mind) Back end was like a sating sheet slowly draping all of your tounge and slowly adding a mild red pepper feel that was really long. Then you sat there with a refreshed mouth ready for another sip πŸ™‚

Had the Andrew Will today, just thought I say that πŸ™‚

  • johnfarrin

Now you’ve added Negociant to your resume? πŸ˜‰ Was there a tidy profit made?

  • Lisa S

Aaaack! How did you get it? I’ve had my eye on this one (Andrew Will – Champoux Vineyard 2007) Since NWIndiana Dan raved about it last year! There is a small shop near me that still has a couple of bottles.. I think it sells for $56 or $60. Well?? Where is your review? I want details – now! Hurry before they sell out of it. πŸ™‚

  • I remebered Dans likey and looked for it in the state monopoly special selection and there it was. Sure, its expensive $75 but what the heck, i ordered 2 bottles. Sweden have a lot of wine nerds and importers thrive of us πŸ™‚ plus the monopoly actually are one of the largets buyers in the world, they have to be in order to be monopoly. I can see that there is still 41 bottles left to buy πŸ™‚
As for the wine, this big boy needs to be decanted and breathe for a bit. Almost inky color. Gorgeous nose of berries, black and sweet red, in there is some chalky and earthy bits, I also detect rosted oak, but very subtle. On the palate this is a full bodied wine with lush and thick feel. Tannins kind of velvety. black cherry, blackberry, dried plum, followed by broccoli and paprika green notes and then some nice black pepper heat with dry dark chocolate and some coffee. Nice long finish. I think i have to order another bottle.

  • The auction is not until september so we’ll see. The asking price( also my reserve) will give me a profit of some $450.Who know in auctions? If the lot doesn’t sell I’ll have 32 more bottelse to drink πŸ™‚

  • Lisa S

They still have 41 bottles of the 07 ?? Wow. Great story and review! I’ll buy a bottle or two tomorrow – if it’s still available. Where’s Dan?? He needs to read this ^
    πŸ™‚

  • I sent for yet another bottle today to replace the one I drank πŸ™‚

  • Checking in to see how everyone is doing. Dom was RIFed yesterday so he needs to find a nice wine to drown his sorrows and to kick off a new chapter in my life. Who knows, maybe I can find my calling in the wine industry.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

    Cheers!

  • I remember this episode and buying the Andrew Will. Honestly, much too big for my palate but good. I would rather put down the extra bones for the cult-following Seylem Pinot.

  • No Seylem in my country at this point in time. Can I settle with

    Marimar

    Blue Christmas

    Ojai Presidio

    Melville
    Terraces Pinot Noir

    Wente
    Reliz Creek Pinot Noi…
    Marimar Estate Cristi…

    Sea Smoke
    Southing Pinot Noir
    Sea Smoke
    Ten Pinot Noir

    Melville
    Carrie’s Pinot Noir

    Director’s Cut
    Pinot Noir
    Brewer-Clifton
    Cargasacchi Pinot Noi…

    Morlet
    Coteaux Nobles Pinot …

    Morlet
    En Famille Pinot Noir

    Brewer-Clifton
    Mount Carmel Pinot No…
    or
    Flying Goat Cellars
    Rio Vista Dijon Pinot…

  • Settle? I don’t think you would be “settling” for any of these choices. Though I have not had the pleasure to try the majority of these, I will say that you would enjoy the Sea Smoke Southing offering. When Lisa and I meet one day, I’m guessing this would be the first bottle opened or possibly the Kosta-Browne. Of course, what we had after that is anyone’s guess. I’m sure by the end of the night an offering by Christian Moueix would be sampled.

I’ve always wanted to try the Morlet. I have heard great things about them.

I’m guessing Lisa would have first-hand knowledge of most of these wines.

  • wltv

So sorry to hear this Dom. It’s a terrible feeling. I spent 16yrs in telecom and the same thing happened to me. Then one day I saw a classified in the paper from some guy named Gary. So your right you don’t know what the future has in store for you. Good luck and I hope you soft land through this.

  • Lisa S

OMG. I am so sorry, Dom. What were they thinking?? Gary should hire you asap. πŸ™‚ There may be a silver cloud here as Mott says below… Give yourself the time and space to find it. In the meantime, you deserve to drink nice wine. πŸ™‚

  • Lisa S

Interesting.. I still haven’t tried Seylem. I’ve got one bottle that just might be ready to drink though.

  • Lisa S

πŸ™‚ Sounds good to moi. Yes I agree… Sea Smoke Southing 06, 08 or 09 . Did not love the 07(and not sure that the Ten bottling is worth the extra $$).

What is Blue Christmas? Who would buy a pinot with a name like that?

I’ve not had Morlet either – sounds wonderful.

Brewer-Clifton, Cargasacchi Pinot Noir should be very good… Melville is connected to Brewer Clifton (2nd label?) They are both full-bodied pinots and usually quite good. Marimar is good too.
Director’s cut is a Francis Ford Coppola wine.. it might be OK… no clue really.
Steer clear of Flying Goat. Yikes. πŸ™‚

  • Lisa S

I just picked up the last 07 at the store around the corner. Not another bottle to be had anywhere around here. Oh.. the 08 is in stock and score is even higher (so is the price). Hmm… Cheers!

  • all of these are in the $60+ range. there are lots more in lower price ranges
    Blue Christmas Pinot Noir (
USA, KalifornienProducer Elvis Presley Wine Cellars 30 dollars a bottle, it was on the list due to that it only sells in 6 btl cases

  • Sad to hear. Regarding the wine if we go real low budget… Campos de Luz Garnacha, Producer Bodegas Esteban Martin only 6 dollars here so that might be 4 dollars over there.
Hope you can find a new position soon.

  • Lisa S

Of course – Elvis’ Blue Christmas! Buy the song, not the wine. πŸ™‚ Not worth it.

  • 30th of August seem to be Cab day in the States. Should I buy Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 08 just for that or what?

  • Thank you my dear extended family for the kind words of support. Yes, when it happened it felt as though my insides were ripped apart. It was not expected but each day I’m raising my chin up just a little bit further. I have worked in some capacity since a youngster so on to new horizons, let’s see where it takes me. Again, thank you.

As for the wine, a nice recommendation from AndersN but 4 bones? Isn’t that the same price as Two Buck Chuck? I will seek it out.

    Cheers

  • Hmmm let me see, you are seeking a California cab? Obviously, it depends on price and availability but we all know what I would recommend. Parker gave it 99pts so one would assume it’s pretty good juice. πŸ˜‰

    http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1070219

The KJ Grand Reserve is also a very good CA cab so you won’t go wrong there.

Also, I think they should move back “Cab Day” by one day to coincide with my birthday so I have an excuse to open one from the mini-cellar downstairs.

  • I’d say you should do that regardless of cab day or not. Birthdays are meant to be good wine days, nothing else πŸ™‚

  • Last night at the barbeque one of the friends arranged I brought le Rose de Mouton-cadet 2011 and Ridge Geyserville 2006

The rosΓ© had a nice fruity and earthy nose with hints of strawberry, blue grapes and cranberry. On the palate it was a bit light for me but refreshing with lots of light red fruit flavours and a really good high acidity back end of strong white pepper that actually felt good. Nice balanced wine this, but as I said I could have done with a little extra body.

This is the second time I tasted the Ridge Geyserville 2006. I think taht this time it was a bit sweeter then the first time. Almost purple wine with a scent that opens up surprisingly quickly: meaty and slight oaky (vanilla) with almond, sweet cherry, sweet blackberry, chocolate and coffee. The friends liked the nose, but they are so into the sweet stuff πŸ™‚

The flavor is charmingly juicy, balanced with a hint of sweet all the way. The fruit is thick with bright blackberry, cherry and even some cassis after the wine had been open a while. Nice spiciness of black pepper transcending into the form of a gingerbread flavour. Good full body and a nice long finish with that dark chocolate powder which I seem to be fond of.

  • Lisa S

Ridge Geyserville is my favorite Ridge wine.. I loved the 06 but I probably had it in 09. πŸ™‚ Great review, as usual!

  • Lisa S

Why is it that a Swedish dude knows about Cab day and I don’t ??? πŸ™‚ KJ Grand Reserve is good. I recently had the KJ vintner’s reserve (less expensive) and did not like it. What else do you have access to? Oberon, Educated Guess? Mount Veeder ? Sequoia Grove? All good values… There is always Napanook (Dominus’ second label cab).. I tasted the 09 recently and liked it. http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1091812.

Oh heck, you can always break open the 05 Corison cabernet. Just a thought. πŸ™‚

  • I spend to much time on the web and Facebook seeing all sorts of wine related mishmash?

    NO!! NOT THE CORISON!!….., πŸ™‚

  • sorry but:
    Flora Springs $56,09
    Jax $56,09
    Silver Oak $134,78
    Jordan $66,96
    Lucas & Lewellen $189,57
    Atalon $36,09
    ChΓ’teau Boswell $149,86
    Robert Mondavi reserve $110,14
    Bonterra $20,14
    Dunn $115,22
    Joseph Phelps $72,32
    Heitz Napa Valley $67,97
    and 50 others πŸ™‚

  • Lisa S

No silver oak. Hmmm.. Jordan, Mondavi, Heitz, Phelps, Dunn all good but expensive.. KJ Grand Reserve may be the best value to celebrate cab day (since you’re not willing to open the Corison). πŸ™‚

  • johnfarrin

No! And stop showing off or Lisa and I will start touting our bottles of 2009 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast pinot that was WS 2011 WOTY πŸ˜‰

What? Did you guys take the Olympics off? I don’t see any new posts for a couple of weeks.

  • Lisa S

King JF – Go easy on our Swedish friend, he is only listing U.S. pinots that are available in Sweden. πŸ™‚

Actually we have posted in the past week, but for some reason they have disappeared, i.e. the cabernet thread. Hmmm…Was it something we said?

  • So where have the King been?
It is not my wines, it is what I may buy if I where so inclined
And yes where is the Cab thread? New look on the Disqus may been a clue.

And hmm you have the WOTY 2011… May one have a sip?

  • Found the problem. The new design of Disqus… top left under 4000 comment. Word Discussion click and choose newest and all will appear.

  • johnfarrin

I must blame my anti-social behavior on calorie depravation. There are 41-1/2 fewer lbs on the King than there were 4 months ago. The weight loss is causing a lot more exercise as I now have to reach all the way to the floor to retrieve my crumbs that my former ‘shelf’ used to catch πŸ˜‰
Mea culpa for the misunderstanding about the pinots πŸ™‚ Lisa and I each have multiple bottles of the WOTY and, of course, you and for that matter any upstanding visiting former Vayniac may have multiple sips of my WOTY. Lisa, on the other hand, intends to drink hers straight from the bottle while wrapped in her Snuggie on her couch πŸ˜‰

  • Good man. 41 lbs is really a feat. Have a glas to celebrate.:)
My shelf have grown instead, due to the lack of exercise…

Are you guys still drinking wine together now and then?
