After seeing later episodes, it’s hilarious when you see little glimpses of future Gary in these old ones

Moving to Washington in a week and looking forward to trying some WA Merlot. Have had a couple Snoqualmie wines before, but newer vintages and varietels.

  • I’ve (unfortunately) only had bad merlots. Trying to find some good ones because I think I would dig it.

The merlot tirade from “Sideways” is one of my all-time favorite senseless rants from a movie… I’ve screamed it at friends before just for kicks. Good laughs.

Merlot can be great! As the man said: Don't judge a book by it's cover! Nuff said, bring on the next episode……

Gary, so subdued..like a Sunday school teacher..I too had stopped buying Merlot after Sideways..just had some recently and enjoyed it allot, Swanson 2005-$20 good bottle. http://www.winelx.com

Ken, try Swanson 2005-$20, was very good winelx.com

  • I love Italian Merlot!!!

Comes to mind; Falesco's Montiano. Castello Di Ama's L'Apparita. Masseto? Redigaffi? A little bit too expensive, if you ask me. No alot.

  • Washington State Merlot is where it’s at…here’s my recommendation; it’s a supermarket play, and cheap… Red Diamond Merlot is one of my favorite everyday wines.

I must admit I am a Melot basher, I usually find it hollow and funky. Most of the Merlot I’ve had was a right bank bordeau blend but I’ve tasted a few single varietals and I must say it doesn’t do it for me.

Man where is Guy Erickson? he was all over these first episodes!

I have to say i fell head over heals for Merlot about 1 month ago with a bottle of Bevan Merlot 2008, OMG it changed my life1 Loves the weight and density and oh so amazing Chocolate. Since then i have been trying any Merlot i can at work. recently tried the Adams bench “the reckoning” washington merlot dominant blend, screaming value!

Very short episode throwing some love in the direction of Merlot. GV seemingly more relaxed, easing into the thunder saddle.
