line of the day – ‘If anybody knows who wears No 70 for the New York Jets I will give them $4,000, GO’

Phenomenal – slagging off a $70 wine, 2 yards away from the guy who donated it to the show and not batting an eyelid. You have to be impressed.

QOTD – not from the last 30 days, but I had a week recently in Prague and bought 6 or so bottles (from known regions in Spain/Italy etc) that were all some of the worst I’ve ever tried. All had to be tipped down the sink.

We could only find decent wine at a very expensive Italian food/wine shop!

Sounded like a pretty disappointing show. No wonder that guy gave away the $70 bottle, he knew it sucked.

QOTD – I would have to say the 2005 Merlot from Bedell Cellars in Long Island. I am getting married there next year and I was not happy with their Merlot. Hopefully we can find something enjoyable to serve our guests.

    Gary:
I enjoy Dashe wines and have been following them from the very start – I think ’96 was their first vintage. They produce nice stuff.

QTD – Kay’s Hillside Shiraz 2002 (screw top). Based on what I paid for it, it undeperformed. Note: Celler is passive, maybe this had something to do with. Have another bottle – have to see how that one plays out.

    Gary,

I talked to a few couples from the thunder cruise and they are definitely interested in a monthly bus from Cherry Hill up to the store. I know there were couples from Cherry Hill on the thunder cruise. I am VERY interested if you start a monthly bus. My wife hates North Jersy traffic. I tell her that it is not as bad as New York, but she won’t go for the ride up to the store. Start the Bus !!

  • Good thing the Dashe Zin showed well at least!

QOTD: 2007 Sokol Blasser white blend- was excited to try it because of the cool label, cool website and good buzz around the wine, as well as the intriguing grape blend (Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Viogner, Sauvignong Blanc, as well as five others, I believe); it didn’t taste bad, but it was very unfocused, and ended up leaving me very unimpressed.

QOTD – In the last 30 days, all good wine. Most disapointing ever – Cabernet Sauvignon from Hajos (Hungary). If you want to expand your palate and don’t mind disapointment, this is a must try.

I think you have to experiment with the disapointing ones to appreciate the good ones fully!

QOTD: Based on the hype I expected more from the 2004 Leeuwin Artist Series Cab. It was good but certainly not a 94 rated wine and don’t think it is worth the $34 price tag on it at WL. There are better values around $20.

  • Love the episodes from the cruise…defiantly a better audience than San Diego. Hope to join you next year.

QOTD; Four Sisters Chardonnay It wasn’t a bad wine (would work great as a generic table white) but brought no Chardonnay THUNDER. I wanted some butter, I wanted some OAK, and this wine gave me neither 🙁 Huge disappointment!

  • GV, I’m going to slap you silly if you don’t plug a mic into that camera!!!

Don’t know what to say. Pretty lame show – you honestly seemed a bit out of it, perhaps “cruised out”.

QOTD – 2002 Chateau Leoville Las Cases – I was expecting so much and although it was an “off” vintage in Bordeaux, I expected more. Seemed pretty dull, perhaps closed.

QOTD: Big Yellow Cab 2005 Mendocino Wine Company, just flabby oak city!

qotd: 81 Petrus, obviously I’m familiar with how well that vintage is regarded for 81 Pomerol, but even still it was a real let down. Still really cool to try and at least it was free.

Have had the Titus and Dashe before..good stuff. Disagree with your opinion on the Titus. QOTD-RED from St Francis..bad wine http://www.winelx.com
