Awesome. This is the type of wine nerd dialogue that I thought that we were going to get in the terrior episodes. Which was not the case by the way. Crazy but, I just had a kid and if it was a boy, I was going to name him Crew. I wanted Cru but my wife talked me out of it… no joke.

Big fan of your show. But even a bigger fan of this type of episode. I’m somewhat into wine and appreciate any education I can on the subject. I enjoy your reviews, but episodes like this one (Cru interview) really pique my interest. I think I learn more about wine and appreciate all the hard work you do when you interview and taste on an episode.

    Matlock the Burgundian

He loves Italian cuisine with French precision. He loves Burgundy and Rhone Valley wine. He opened a classy wine restaurant. I think I’ve found a new BROmance. :)

I agree with Little Jonny that 99.7% of us are a little dumbfounded by throwing around ‘$600′ bottles of wine.

Great show and I love the ‘On Location’ stuff.

Wow. Bringing wine nerdy back. Yeah.

Catching up on some shows but this is a great part 1. Super cool guy. I’m curious as to your retail on a wine like this.

OK, so this episode inspired me to go shopping last night. The only bottle available at the local Wine Gallery – 2001 Hubert Lamy St. Aubin (and I mean the only bottle – took it off the display rack). Really nice, a little pricey for my everyday consumption but quite enjoyable. Thanks, Gary, another door opened!

Liked the show and represented the high end aspect of the Biz. I think you need a certain personality to succeed at the top end in New York. This guy seems to be quite personable and down to earth.

I hope Gary will also find time to do the low end side of the Biz too (price wise… not quality) and the challenge they have with getting good value priced wines to accompany their foods (i.e. not the critter wines). Would be a fun show.

Garr youre doing better with the interviews…im about to watch part two and I’m fired up. This guy is the type of guest that I think 99% of fans will dig.

Don’t like this guy! “If u’re eating pizza and not drinking barolo u’re an imbecile?” What the hell is that?

I look for Macon and Saint Veran. I haven’t had a St Aubin.

The bottles on the table are wobbling. Please don’t fall!

Very cool show. I could spend a lot of time at CRU and learn quite a bit. I’ll definitely have to put it on my list for the next time I’m up in NYC.

QOTD: Yes I think we must encourage tradition but at the same time not hinder new developments. Traditionalists must also exploit new findings and technology in order to improve thinks rather than think that only the old ways are the best.

Also, I don’t understand why so many Italian wine makers for instance, produce Cabs and Merlots instead of wines from indigenous varieties that are better suited to the climate and soil.

I found it especially interesting hearing about restaurant pricing! I totally agree with that last point- better to drink cheap wine than no wine!

Ripping show Gary, loving the conversation. The guest is great as well, I’m out in the Midwest, so I don’t hear much about restaurants, but Cru is definitely one I would love to visit.

Gary, good show. You are getting better at letting your guest talk with out interruptions.

I would sure like to visit Cru.

    LIttle Jonny

Neat fella, and crazy restaurant & wine list. I think the variety on their list just to appease the crowds is an interesting approach, and love that they’re CDR fans!

However, $400 bucks cannot equate value for 99.7% of the U.S. wine market. Wild numbers being tossed around.

Excellent, excellent guest. I’m still going to mention my pet peeve about the lousy audio though. But that was overshadowed by the great guest. Nice mention of Danny Meyer’s empire. Definitely some of the greatest restaurants in the world.

Curious: Robert, I remember reading soon after 9/11 that people were ordering far fewer $600+ bottles of wine with dinner, when they realized that’s about what the NYFD firemen who died made in a week. Did you notice that as well? And are you seeing the same trend today?

Gotta say, definitely top 3 guests on WLTV.
