90/100

line of the day (by guest) – ‘if you are eating pizza and you’re not drinking Barbera, you’re an imbecile’

No fault of the guest but his quiet voice is not picked up too well by the microphone (Mott’s fault!). Shame ‘cos he’s got a good story to tell.

St Aubin is a Montrachet killer these days
    super stuff totally agree 😉

  • Nice start to a 2 parter… Serious wines with some serious stemware…. I wonder if they use those glasses for everyone that comes through the door?

Awesome Guest! Very refreshing to see someone in the most pretentious end of the business, being so completely down to earth. Very good chemistry between you two.

Guests like this are the real deal. Great show. 30 grand for the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 37 is a little steep. Do they sell it by the glass?!

Great chemistry, that dude str8 up rocked! I loved this 2 part show and it put a smile on my face after a damn busy night at my restaurant! Just fantastic Mr. Gary V!

Haha…when I’m not drinking wine you’ll usually find an iced tea in my hands. My Lady and I have quite a selection of loose leaf teas in our home as well!

    Keep up the good work!

QOTD: We need to keep the tradition. Tradition is a good thing, especially when dealing with the drink of the Gods.

Unique show, Gary. I liked it because I’m heavily into wine but I could see some soft core fans being put off and unable to keep up with your pace and discussions.

Also, you guys are so New York, rambling back and forth quickly, changing topics quickly, jabbing in with your comments, etc. I enjoyed it, showed me it was real – showed the enhtusiasm, interest in wine, knowledge of wines, history of New York places/people, etc.

Curious: Robert, I remember reading soon after 9/11 that people were ordering far fewer $600+ bottles of wine with dinner, when they realized that’s about what the NYFD firemen who died made in a week. Did you notice that as well? And are you seeing the same trend today?

  • Excellent, excellent guest. I’m still going to mention my pet peeve about the lousy audio though. But that was overshadowed by the great guest. Nice mention of Danny Meyer’s empire. Definitely some of the greatest restaurants in the world.

Neat fella, and crazy restaurant & wine list. I think the variety on their list just to appease the crowds is an interesting approach, and love that they’re CDR fans!

However, $400 bucks cannot equate value for 99.7% of the U.S. wine market. Wild numbers being tossed around.

  • Gary, good show. You are getting better at letting your guest talk with out interruptions.

I would sure like to visit Cru.

Ripping show Gary, loving the conversation. The guest is great as well, I’m out in the Midwest, so I don’t hear much about restaurants, but Cru is definitely one I would love to visit.

I found it especially interesting hearing about restaurant pricing! I totally agree with that last point- better to drink cheap wine than no wine!

QOTD: Yes I think we must encourage tradition but at the same time not hinder new developments. Traditionalists must also exploit new findings and technology in order to improve thinks rather than think that only the old ways are the best.

Also, I don’t understand why so many Italian wine makers for instance, produce Cabs and Merlots instead of wines from indigenous varieties that are better suited to the climate and soil.

I look for Macon and Saint Veran. I haven’t had a St Aubin.

The bottles on the table are wobbling. Please don’t fall!
