line of the day (by guest) – ‘if you are eating pizza and you’re not drinking Barbera, you’re an imbecile’

No fault of the guest but his quiet voice is not picked up too well by the microphone (Mott’s fault!). Shame ‘cos he’s got a good story to tell.

    GARY!!!
Ive been to Washington Park AND CRU…Nick& Tony’s in East Hampton, Gramercy Tavern & Babo…I didnt meet my future husband BUT, I did enjoy the time… 🙂
I’ll be in NYC tonite…should I go to Terroir?

I LOVE that you asked about “wine by the glass”…
Overall, I believe restaurants, and I dine out a lot, can be criminal in their costs of wine…and I KNOW I have spent a riDONCulous amt. of moolah to enjoy wine when out w/friends…

GREAT episode, awesome guest..cant wait to see Part II.

That was a great first part. I’m looking forward to the rest. I’m with you on St Aubin. I also think there are some great values coming out of Rully, even though some of those wines are pretty oaky. Thanks, guys.

AMEN to the fact that there are values everywhere in Italy, even the “big names” of Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello, etc. In Barolo, $60 – $80 will get you a big variety of 95+ pt. wines, it’s incredible. The only downside is I hate waiting for them to mature. Boring.

    Can’t wait for part 2.

Thanks for linking up Terroir as well. I just looked at their wine list — a half-hour of good reading there. Would love to visit both places next time I’m in NYC.

A great show…it’s nice to see some spotlights on a high end restaurant with some history on the person you are sitting beside. You do a good job of keeping it all in check and still letting him talk too.

Great show! Nice to get outta the office and into the real world. You’re getting much better at the interview thing, too. Looking forward to part 2!

CRU’s winelist is indeed sick. I realize these are the best wines in the world and that this is NYC, but c’mon–who in God’s name is going to order a $12,000 bottle of wine with their pasta? If I had Bill Gates’ checkbook in my pocket, I would be embarrassed to do so, knowing full well that money could feed hundreds of starving people for a year. Even in the best of economic times, it could only be called pretentious.

Fantastic, a little over my head at times, but it just inspires me to learn more. Time to whip out the Sotheby’s wine encyclopedia.

Thank you, Roy Welland and Robert Bohr, for sharing with us your winelist and inadvertently exposing to Main Street exactly what is wrong with Wall Street:
while thousands of Americans are losing their jobs, those responsible are eating spaghetti and sipping four- and five-figure bottles of wine(can your wobbly tables even hold a Jeroboam?).

I’m sure you two are nice guys and all, but perhaps you should get out of NYC a little more. Do the world a favor–screw the hedge fund managers, auction off your most pretentious offerings, and donate the proceeds to charity. Just think of the tax write-off!
