Could you talk more about tasting sparkling wines the next day.
This idea is new to me and has been keeping me up at night.
    Thanks in advance.

Great guest. Love the publishing angle about wine. Would more shows about wines from Long Island, especially Cab Franc, the unappreciated grape. Joel

I actually tried the 02 Cristal at a free tasting last week! We were excited to try Cristal just since we were curious about all of the hype. I didn’t really care for it too much, but I think part of it was that my experience with sparking wines is pretty limited. I’d like to try it again another time (especially if it’s free again!) after I’ve learned more about sparkling wines. I’m definitely curious to try sparkling wines the 2nd day, since we always finish those up the 1st day!

    Great episode!

Gary, I know you’re at Jet game right now as I’m catching up on episodes (but watching both Giants and Jets on TV). By now, I’m assuming that you’ve given the Cristal a 2nd tasting.

Email me your score AND any additional Tasting Notes for the 2nd tasting….and I will incorporate into SpreadSheet.

I think I might have a new favorite guest. I’m a little behind here, catching up while I work on a Saturday afternoon, but I love that I don’t have to wait until tomorrow to move on.

I loved this episode! Super guest, and the idea of scoring wines through out several days of tasting is great. Excellent learning experience to see how a wine develops (or not).

another great guest…this show is really starting to hang at a whole new level.
Day 2 wine can be so much better and informative…we often get on a roll where each evening we have the rest of the bottle from the day before, and start a new one leaving it for the following evening.

I love day 2 wine. My husband and I cannot (choose not to) finish a bottle on day 1. While we try not to pop and pour, day 1 wine may be tight.

Great episode. Mr. Green is an excellent guest and I would love to see him make more appearances. You guys work well together! I have had Aveleda Vinho Verdhe Fonte (about $7) and that is an excellent value. I definitely want to try the one you tasted on the show. Not sure if Cristal is in my future, but the show has definitely made me want to try some ‘02 Champagne.

As far as new regions to explore/focus on:
I know the ‘other’ American wine regions don’t get a ton of respect and they are not regularly available around the country, but I would love to see you taste wines from Long Island and Upstate New York. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc are all worth some attention. The wines, especially Riesling, have gotten some respect from Spectator and Wine Advocate of late so hopefully with a little more attention from the powers that be retailers/restaurants will be more likely to give them a chance.

Ok, first part is great. I really like Joshua Greene. If part 2 is as good as part 1 I may subscribe to his magazine. I loved his take on grading wines. Great info on two day old wine as well.

Loved to see Gary get a little wine nerdy when he has to.

Great show guys. I am excited to go drink some wine.

How about the next region being McLaren Vale (South Australia) great reds most years?

Not to call the guest old, but I bet the drinking age was 18 when he was in college…

    Moving along.

I hate you for rinsing with Cristal! That wine is nectar of the Gods. I would happily drink the rinsings from the Vinho Verde. You are such a wine pig!

Yo G, How many “bones” for da Cristal??????

side qotd: Another canidate for region/grape to focus on would be
the German Vino made from Scheurebe……

Although I don’t always understand some of the wine jargon, it entertaining to see two people with so much passion about something talk with each other.

I second the idea about wines from Missouri! There is a bike ride along the Katy Trail that goes by a few wineries that I am looking to do.

As a future testing and a great region to explore : Saumur. Especially for Sparkling wines, which are not as popular as Champagne, but worth it!
I would propose the Saumur Sparkling such as the Red Ruby from Bouvet-Ladubay. A UNIQUE experience!
