Collectively, Gary’s fans may be “The Vaynyard”. Also a good name for Gary’s first wine label!

  • To get back to out topic of debate from last episode…I like Wine Librarians. This is kind of reaching for it be what about Wi-Lites (why lights)?
Tony and Chris SS are killing it!! That is so awesome to get all of the Vaynerisms into the tasting notes. Great job guys.

Loved the two look back episodes. I could watch the reaction to the Frog’s Leap everyday. This weekend I’m having a 2000 Quileda Creek and 1997 J Schram.

  • Gary…on the SS there is not a score offered for the 2001 Cigaral Syrah Pago del Ama. You said, “WORLD CLASS WINE, maybe the BEST wine ever recommended on WLTV.”
With that in mind…what kind of score would you give it?
I personally would pay twice or more the price to get more of it (I still have one left).
My cellar tracker review…”7/22/2006 rated 95 points: Decanted for 1.25 hours, very dark color, cherries and spice on the nose and followed into the mouth. Very silky feel, spicy, dark fruits, tobacco. Finish went on and on. This was some seriously powerful stuff. One of the best wines I have had in a long time.”
Of course this is on the world used and abused 100 point scale. I prefer a 20 point scale but that doesn’t matter.
So what do you give it? And can you get me more? I have been searching EVERYWHERE!!! I have a buddy going to Spain and Portugal in October and I gave him a cool G in cash just in case he finds it.
This should show you how serious I am in getting more.

Sue Z, Yes, the t-shirt thing is absolutely still open. Thereâ??s no need to rush thisâ?¦.more important to get this right rather than rush.

I truly LOVE all of your suggestions (in comment #37). Especially: VaynerNation, VaynerPosse and VaynerPeeps, also VaynerBoozerâ??s (#40). Theyâ??re all greatâ?¦IMHO you are, by far, the BEST at this, so keep posting suggestions if youâ??re feeling it.

Iâ??m having trouble picking my favorite. If I HAD to rank them, Iâ??d say: 1-VaynerNation, 2-VaynerPosse 3-Vayner Peeps

MaryS, I really liked VaynerEnthusiast as well, but I fear a little too in line w/ the â??wine establishmentâ?. WLTVâ??s spirit is decidedly anti-establishment. But itâ??s good and I wanted acknowledge and thank you for the â??solid effortâ?.

    MarcT,

Sincere thanks for the nice words about adding the VAYNERisms to Web SS tasting notes section (at this point, added on Eps. 1 & 63).

Frankly, I expected a landslide of KUDOS, yet yours is the very first comment. I’m starting to feel unappreciated….since, nobody seems to care, I think I wonâ??t enter VaynerIsm’s to the SS (I’ve already got enough to do entering both the new and back episodes).

On a more serious note, I also acknowledged Wine Libraryâ??s most excellent IT guy, Sir Brian Woolley, for ALL of his great work on adding the SS to the site (as did Gary on the SS launch on Monday). Yet I have not seen one SHOUT OUT for my man, Brian (Brian and I met twice and shared 70+ emails getting the SS up and running which represents only a small portion of the work he did on this project}.

COME ON VaynerNation!! Give Brian the luv he deserves. Trust me (& Gary), he worked his RUMP off!

    Picktown,
Love the “Vaynyard”! That is so clever!
I was thinking along those lines, but I was trying to incorporate Brandom M also as he has earned frequent flyer miles here.
The “Vayner VineKings”(not Vikings)…Gary and Brandom M both get nodded (not knighted) and Brandon M gets to wear his helmet w/ grape vines dangling from the horns.
Brandon M, I have to ask….did you and a bunch of guys ever raft the Gauley River, W VA, in your Viking helmets? We went down the Gauley one year and on our trip was a boat of 8 guys with a guide all wearing Viking helmets duct-taped onto those ugly yellow helmets provided by the rafting company. Great Fun!
Every time I see your post, I think of that trip.

This weekend’s wines include: Farleigh Red Zin, Clos Mimi Syrah, Powers Meritage and a cheap beer during the Bengals’ victory over the Patriots with a celebratory Mondavi Reserve after the Pats defeat. Enjoy the weekend, all

  • Thanks for the points Gary. Now can you get me anymore? 😉
Chris SS…No problem. I would hope that you do not feel too overwhelmed with the SS. Adding the Vaynerisms is just a quirk for the VayneOPHILES (which one will we choose?) so I would not sweat getting them in there (although it is pretty cool). Another thing is that it is Friday, WLTV is not scheduled officially until next Wednesday, and the start of a weekend too so that could be why you are not getting the KUDOS from the rest of our crowd yet.
Anyway I think I speak for everyone in saying that we love what you are doing with the SS and REALLY REALLY appreciate it. It makes getting info into my Cellar Tracker inventory faster and easier too. I don’t know if you realize what a great service the SS is!

So with that said I must give thanks and KUDOS to Brian Woolley. I have no idea who you are but if you helped with the SS then you deserve a toast too. So here it is…
When God made little boys, he made them out of string. He had a little extra so he left a little thing. When God made little girls, he made them out of lace. He didn’t have enough so he left a little space. Here’s to Brian Woolley and SPACE!!!!

All jokes aside…Keep up the good work Chris and Brian and everyone that helps with the SS. You are helping the world to be a better place!

MarcT, Muchos Gracias, especially for Sir Brian!

FYI, I updated the SS w/GV’s rating for the’01 Cigarral Pago Del Ama in SS.

GARY, Just in case you can locate the Cigarral for Marc T, I’d like a couple of bottles too!!

    GOOD NIGHT & GOOD LUCK!!

  • Hey guys, back from my shoot. Crappy, dusty, smoky weather. Found some good cotton fields, but no good rice harvests. Eh.

Still compiling the Vaynerisms. Nice to see a Vayneryip and a solid Vaynerclank in the retrospective.

I made a pretty big stock sale a few days ago, so on the way back from my shoot, my wife and I stopped for dinner at a nice restaurant with a pretty extensive (for Chico) wine list. After tasting a couple of cheap but pretty decent wines by the glass, we decided to celebrate and buy a bottle that would normally be way beyond what I would spend.

So, we got a bottle of 1999 Dominus Napa Cab. Big time, major California cult cab, right? We decanted it and let it breathe the whole time. For the price, it was CRAP. It wasn’t a bad wine, but there was absolutely nothing special about it. Very little fruit up front, a bit of flint, pepper and something floral on the mid-palate, and then a bitter tannic, very dry finish. It’s like it didn’t have enough fruit to last 5 years, but had enough tannins for 15. Maybe an 83-84.

I’m glad that I tried it, but I’m sorely disappointed in the wine. Why do people rave about stuff like this? The Clos Montirius Vacqueyras 2003 (which was $22) was three times the wine at a fifth the price.

Just goes to show you, I guess.

  • Alright guys…it may be a few days before I find a computer in San Fran. My girl will not let me take my laptop because she thinks/knows that I will end up doing some remote work if I have it!
Well I’m off. I hope to catch up soon!

They had some of my favorites when I was out in Napa. I really enjoyed their ’03 Meritage called “The Poet” and another wine called M. Coz.

    Hey Sue what about:

    Darth Vayner

    – he understands the power of the dark juice of the force.(read in a James Earl Jones voice)

Is the t-shirt thing still open? Mind if I throw in a few late entries?:
    â??We are VaynerNationâ?!
Some of us remain VaynerTrollers or VaynerLurkers
    VaynerPosse
    VaynerPeeps
    VaynerBloods
    VaynerCrats
Iâ??ll get back in if I think of any more.
Iâ??ll be drinking Reislings, Gewurztraminers, and Oktoberfest beer. Itâ??s Oktoberfest weekend in my neighborhood!

i’ve been compiling a list of wines that garyv nodded on AND that i can actually purchase here. unfortunately it’s a short list, but i went shopping last night, picked up the ones i could locate and a few more of my own. so now i’m going back and watching the pertinent vids as i drink. and learning. definitely a neat thing to do. i don’t think i’m quite as addicted as some of you 🙂 but two things that indicate i’m more hooked than i thought i would be: #1 – i’ve been working on getting a handful of friends together to do some really informal fun wine tasting/knoshing nights on a regular basis and my first thought was we should watch a few vids too. and #2 – my hubby and i generally get down from our igloo here in canada to nyc every couple of years or so (it’s the only american city we feel drawn to with any regularity) and we’ve already talked about how next time we would make a point of heading to nj to visit the wl.
