Look out, it’s Dr. Tongue’s 3-D House of Wine!

I hate hot dogs, unless I’m at a baseball game. But people don’t invite me to baseball games because whenever I go, the home team loses. Every single freakin’ time.

But: andouille with Maytag blue on a bun is better anyway. I think I had my last bottle of Curtis Crossroads Syrah with that stuff, and there was much rejoicing.

By the way, there aren’t any more 7-11 stores in IA … not a one. All bought out.

QOD: cheap Cab and Coke. I must have picked it up when I was younger and drank far less well.

In case no one has mentioned this, you’ve got some competition over at Zachys. Completely different style and certainly not as entertaining!

QOTD: Sauternes with Cap’n Crunch right out of the box.

almost as classic as oysters with Muscadet.

hey, link me to a great Muscadet. OK?

Taco Bell + Goundrey Shiraz = spicy dinner Not in my top 5, but it wasn’t awful. Lots of acid.

Kobiyashi rules! His hotdog dance beats everyone else’s, sorry Gary!

Classic, balls out all the way. G-man you got to hit up “Pinks” in LA after this episode.

QOTD: The first one maybe not so weird 10 yr. Tawny (Dow’s the last time) with braindied cherries and real deal Parmigiano. Number two, (tonight) Arugula and blue cheese salad with a slightly aged Savenieres (Domaine des Baumard). Also thick JJ. Prum stuff with sage derby cheese. Who wooda thunkit.

QOTD: I was going to suggest ritalin with the Montveil after watching this episode, but Jim (Comment 60) mentioned your competition doing wine videos at Zachys (imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?) and, after watching several episodes, I can’t help but echo Susan’s (Comment 65) appreciation of your energy. Admittedly Zachy’s Karen MacNeil is more attractive than you especially when she mentions something about sweaty males (we that perspire, salute her!). Still, she relies on notes and definitely doesn’t have your spontaneity or energy. Congrats on keeping it real, GV.

p.s. when you review wines–especially those you sell–you don’t come across as a shill. Thus, I believe you when you recommend wines such as the Charles Creek Merlot that WL recently pimped. As such, I bought a mixed case of the Charles along with the Regusci 2004 Cabernet (great cab for $40–now that I bought it, I’ll confide that the Regusci topped Caymus and several other high-end Cali cabs in a recent tasting we had over Xmas). Anyway, your honesty comes through. Contrast that to the Zachys video blogs….

Love the Tecmo…Dicker could kill…Don’t know Dicker? Too young, like wine – Bentley catching Trudeau’s lolipops. Best part of the game = no NYJ…O’Brien, not good, not needed. Better use the NYG and reveal you actually bleed blue than green.

BTW – Ketchup is the worst! Mustard forever!

  • QOD: Cold fajitas and Chianti, amazing!!!!

    Gary-
Great theme Gary, as a som I always encourage my guest to go with what they love and forget what they might have heard from food network. It works 99.9% of the time! You’re going for the establishments juggular and its rather fun to watch!

Sorry, GV, do yourself a favor and do a remote from Chicago, land of the dog…don’t know what to put on one (better be all-beef Vienna)? Run it through the garden…tomatoe, onion, relish, kosher pickle, sport peppers, celery salt, and MUSTARD! on a poppy seed bun. Heaven.

Awesome episode! I have a 7-11 directly across the street from my office, and I’ve made many a walk of shame to grab a hot dog there (mustard, relish, onions, and sauerkraut for me- and a pack of tic-tacs). QOTD: I’ve found cheap, buffet-style Chinese orange chicken (from a little take-out place on Hollywood Blvd., though Panda Express or something similar is the same I’m sure) pairs extremely well with big buttery California Chardonnay. It borders on sweet and gooey overkill, but it’s a decadent and cheap delight.

I like a big red with Skyline Chili (plate of spaghetti, Cincinnati chili, onions, topped off with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese and nice splash of tabasco).
