  • awesome episode… video2.0? What was the meeting all about? QOTD: Mr. Londre. Think of laundray, not laundry. He used to whoop me in speed math.

Wow, 5th Grade…I am no CK

1970 Arlington heights grade School, Eau Claire WI….Mr Bakkum

This man was the scariest teacher to have ever walked the earth. Not only would he beat you and pull your hair out of your head (it was allowed back then, teachers could pull your hair! Now they would go to jail ) But he also would disappear into the storage closet in our room and come out smelling like mouthwash. I think he in there drinking some vodka or MD 20/20! I heard he eventually got fired for fondling a little girl, pretty sad……

Needless to say the man made a huge impression on me and since I was scared to death of him…I actually got pretty good grades…My parents loved the guy because I behaved! I was a little hyperactive as a child….

Anyway, have a great time tonight celebrating your Sisters accomplishment!! should be a great night for you and your family!!!!

  • Craig

QOTD : Mrs. Varner at Highland Elementary School in Grants Pass, Oregon, back in the mid ’60s. She was also my brother’s 5th grade teacher, several years earlier. And a great teacher she was.

QOTD: I had an interesting 5th grade, the week was split in two and shared by two different teachers. Mon-half Wed was Mrs. Penn, nice teacher but a bit more strict than the later week teach who was Mrs. Pendergrapht, both out of University Hills Elementary, Rochester Michigan. Mrs. Pendergrapht was probably my most favorite teacher ever, that includes College too were a I had a couple cool Profs. (Shout out to Jeff Luck, you rocked too man!)

    Cheers!

Mr. Wilbur Meyers. He had such a positive influence on at least all of the boys that we thought of him more as a father than a teacher. Think of the Beaver’s father, yes Mr. Meyers wore a suit everyday, with athletic skills (he’d play football, baseball and basketball with us during recess and PE).

    Ciao

    QOTD: Bob Osberg RIP

  • Big shout out to Mr. Watnick, 5th Grade teacher at San Jose St. Elementary in Granada Hills, CA. Must have been 1980. He had a beard, wore denim suits, and played guitar. I didn’t learn much that year, but I had an AWESOME time!

Broccoli with chocolate – my favorite combo! Really? Really, Gary? Ok, maybe I’ll try. You know why? Because you and me, we’re changing the wine world (and giving my UPS guy a hernia).

QOTD: My fifth grade teacher was one of my favorite teachers: Miss Heck. Teachers got weird after her, it was the sixties, you know.

    Great show

QOTD: Mrs. Finlayson who was a wonderful lady and I remember her being left-handed. At the time, I thought was cool.

    Gary.

QOTD: My fifth grade teacher was Mrs. James; she was quite an interesting teacher, and I’m sure she remembers me today – as a child, most teachers at my school probably knew of me (for good and not so good reasons!)

One thing I remember about her class that was cool is that allthough it was a G.A.T.E. “gifted” class, which is just a class with extra homework, we would sing Yellow Submarine and we watched “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” from the Peter Sellers classic series.

Wow… nostalgia… That was when everyone and their grandma wore their pants way too low, wore flannel shirts and listened to grunge music.. Particularly, the Vitalogy album of Pearl Jam was popular that year.

QOTD: Mrs. Brennan, Wells Elementary in Plano, Texas. Greatest teacher ever. Took us 5th graders to New York via train. How cool is that? And she loved the word “penultimate.”

Interesting show. I was running behind on the episodes so missed my chance to influence WLTV, and indeed history with a selection. Now you’re not asking but how about weighing in on the WOTM from the forum? http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=27847
Enjoy the banquet. I wonder if it will be held at the Westwood on North Avenue, on the Garwood/Westfield border. Many sports banquets there back in the day.
My 5th grade teacher was a vindictive dick so I will not name him. Played dodgeball with us and cheated! Taught me that the world was not always fair so I guess I needed to learn that…..

Gary — Is it true that some wine critics give ratings relative to the region, meaning that a 91 point Cru Beaujolais is not meant to be compared with a 91 point Bordeaux or a 91 from Spain? I heard that WA does their ratings this way and I was curious if you do this also when you score a wine?
