QOTD: At this point in my life as a wine drinker I suppose I’d have to say BOMB. But I’m not sure I’ve been exposed to the good ole’ dirty enough to really know what I’m missing…Perhaps you could single out some affordable, widely available (as wine library can’t ship to my state), distinctly “old world” style wines that newbies like me could sink our teeth into.

PS: Speaking of shipping…how do we know that we emailed you guys fast enough to be in on getting one of the last wristbands? Should I have gotten a reply by now?

QOTD: Dirty Bomb for sure. Of course, I love the fruit, the red and the dark, and seek those flavors in a tasting. But, what I find is that often producers that express these flavors so well also OVERDUE THE OAK AND THE ALCOHOL. And, for this reason I cannot go all fruit on this QOTD. Also, I really appreciate the earthiness and character of the old world, terroir style wines. In the end, what I am looking for in a wine is balance and complexity…that includes both fruit and earth, with a little spice thrown in.

We won’t see Gary slushed 🙁 as this is the penultimate episode Gary taped in this marathon. The question is, what happened with episodes from #8 to #10?? Were they thrashed????? Will we ever see them?????????? 🙁

QOTD: Bomb at the moment. Maybe as my pallet begins to mature I’ll become a dirty bomb, but for now I am clearly a bomb.

Gary I’m a dirty Bomb – I tend to avoid Australia because most of the time I taste Yellow Tail. I’be been a drinking mostly Italian and French wines lately – so I’m leaning towards dirty.

GV I hope you don’t get any flak for operating a site that keeps talking about “dirty bombs.” Hopefully Big Brother knows we are talking about wine and nothing else 🙂 And by the way kudos for calling out the Australian wines – I agree 100%

QOTD: My husband and I have sweet tooths so we really appreciate the bombs. But we’re trying more of the dirty wines to get an appreciation of them. We’re always glad to see a little fruit though – shining through the dirt.

I’ve been drinking wine for about 2 years now. I’ve always been a bomb as you put it. Trying to reach out to the old world. Maybe you could do an episode of old world wine for new world drinkers? I know heavy ML and oak treatment on Chardonnay is considered New World/fruit bomb, but is there a “New World” analogy for riesling? Especially since New World rieslings, such as from Australia, tend to be drier than their German counterparts.
