A dumb Rhein king

haha, give the oak monster shirts props one day and then complain about them the next 😀

QOTD: I don't know if I can remember what I had in 2007, but this week I had a Greek Moschofilero by Boutari. It was very good. The worst wine was a cab from Cavas Submarinas. It tasted like wet musty cardboard. It could be TCA even though the cork was synthetic.

    QOTD:
BEST was one Gary recommended: 2004 Turnbull cab. Loved it!
WORST: 2003 Cahors Clos Sigier (since I love Argentinian Malbec, I thought I would like this Cahors, but it tasted totally different: I couldn’t have identified the grape or varietal in a blind tasting). Hated it!

  • Colleen

    Welcome back Gary.
QOTD: Best wine…2001 Edgewood Estates malbec….
    Worst wine… 2005 Jakes Fault Cab…

Glad you made it back and had a good trip.

QOTD: Best wines 1991 Chimney Rock Cab, and 2003 Conn Valley Cab. Worst wine was Moon something? It wasn’t worth remembering.

Cool T’s I will have to mention it to my wife for a fathers day gift for myself.

Well, I’ve only had wine from one bottle this week. It was pretty lousy, but it was homemade by a family friend. Smelled heavily of yeast and was extremely sour… yuck.

Welcome back, very excited to see you and you are right, I took your advice and put in another two cents on top of my comment two cents. I put you on my blog with a link and even a picture, you can click on my name there and see for yourself! Now…where is my wristband??? I have waited sooooooo long and nothing. Nothing! I wrote and sent the e-mail and divulged my address and social security number and the password to all of my bank accounts…

Oh well, it is awesome to have you back, look forward to future episodes. As for wines had while you were gone. I had a Red Guitar (2005) Tempranillo Garnacha mix. It was alright. Rides a bit hot in the end but had an interesting earthy, green bell pepper, black pepper taste.

    Welcome back. 🙂

QOTD: Haven’t had any wine in the past two weeks.

  • Robin

    Welcome back!
QOTD: Best wine: Peninsula Estate Hauraki 1998(Cabernet Sauvignon 67%/Merlot 20%/Cabernet Franc 10%/Malbec 3%) A little unusual but great. Worst wine: Schmitt Sohne Riesling 2005. Very cheap and soda poppy.

    Welcome back Gary!

The Jersey Boy, with complete disregard to what’s in the bottle, has an awesome label.

QOTD: Haven’t had anything amazingly exciting in the past two weeks, but the Best was the 2004 WineSmith Cabernet and the Worst was Chateau Kefraya Red (from Lebanon). I’m all about wine from lesser known regions, but this one just tasted like fermented Raspberry Snapple to me.

    GV,
Welcome back. Hope you had a great trip. Not a huge Pinot fan. Never got the sideways bug.
QOTD: 2001 Pinino Brunello shared with some good buds last night. Had some nice provolone and Pecorino Grand Cru to go with it. Yum.
#2 Copain Le Printemps Rose. Just didn’t do it for me.

Welcome back! WLTV is just not the same when you’re strung out on a 12 episode bender. QOD: Best (newly tasted) wine: Fontalloro 1999 Sangiovese
    http://corkd.com/wine/view/27831-Fontalloro_1999__Felsina_Sangiovese

Worst: Bodegas Castano 2005 Monastrell, I know a lot of people (Jay Miller) loved this, but it was f-f-f-fake tasting to me. http://corkd.com/wine/view/23788-Bodegas_Casta_o_2005_Monastrell

The best wine that i have had since you were gone has been 2000 Aszu Royal Tokaji 5 Puttony, the stuff was amazing! I have been drinking Sauternes but after seeing your episode on Tokaji I had to try some and was soo impressed. Nothing bad in a while. It’s good to have you back on the show Gary! I am glad you had fun in Greece.

Chalk Hill Chard 04 was the best, and the worst was an old bottle of Marrietta old vine red, should have drank it 5 or 7 years ago. Welcome back man!

Welcome back Gary, hope you had a fabulous trip!
QOTD: 2000 Brunello De Montalcino Paggio Basso & a 2002 Josephshofer Rielsing Spatlese Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, were the best.
Anti QOTD: Worst wine I had was a 2006 Pinot Grigio “Jesera” Collio Venica.

  • GREAT to have you back safe and sound, palate and integrity intact, and thanks so much for another, yet another great show. Glad to see you getting press on ABC … i had a sense of pride that I was already a fan!

Just FYI: This fan has absolutely NO PROBLEM with the lengths of the show … I like the show immensely and would watch a half-hourt each day if you so proffered that! Short-show weanies should buy the Reader’s Digest version!

QOTD: Hands down, man, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention on a previous show (the $200 case episode) — Bodegas Victoria Dominio de Longaz 2004. What a GREAT wine for a mere $20. I wrote the Winery in Spain trying to find their “Longus” but cannot find it here; they were quite nice and fun to correspond with. Sure would like to try their other stuff. I agree that the ratings was too low for this wine, it’s a 93 for sure! Thanks for the tip — since watching the show I have yet to drink a bad bottle that came from your advice (had a few bad ones that came from my impulse buying, but I’m preventing that from happening more and more).

    Again, glad you are back!

    Welcome back Gary!
Need to mention that your little brother is absolutely adorable! You’re not so bad yourself.
    Last two week wine review…
Best wine: The PRISONER Zin blend 2005 (93pts and top 100, WS, WOW!
Worst wine: Ten Mile Red Blend, Crap.
You need to taste the PRISONER and let me know what you think, if you haven’t tried it already.
    Cheers!

QOTD: Best) two exceptional efforts: 1) Beaux Freres ’05 ribbon ridge 2) La Sirena ’03 cab.
Worst) in all honesty I havent had anything recently that I would feel comfortable calling worst.

Sad to say, I haven’t had a memorable bottle of wine in the last two weeks. Wouldn’t be right to pick a best bottle among the mediocre. So, let’s go with the Jameson Irish Whiskey followed by a nice glass of Kentucky Bourbon.

    Welcome back!

QOTD: we had the big Des Moines “Winefest” here in good ol’ IA last weekend, and I tried some of Angelini’s 2001 Val di Suga Brunello. Pretty tasty but more ripe than previous vintages and still pretty tight.

Worst wine I had was a Gargiulo 2002 Rosato di Sangiovese. Why am I dumb enough to drink a rose at 5 YOA? Who knows.

Good to have you back GV

Welcome back. Wish you could find me a $12 pinot I could drink every day. Just read up on Meritage. Would be interesting if you would talk about what exactly it is.
