Just read the article in time magazine and learned of your show. I thought it is honest and funny, I will keep watching for sure. I think that’s what make’s it interesting, so don’t change that aspect (ac, aromatically challenged, even for someone french like me, it is very drole). In québec, we usually never pay under 15$ for wine, and we drink 4 to 6 bottles a week, so it would be nice to live in the US and pay 9$ for something good…I think I should move!

  • QOTD: I’m biased, of course, since I don’t drink, but I’d like to see more shows about the technique of wine-tasting. The basics of tasting episode was very interesting, and so was the “four ways to taste one wine” too. The idea someone brought up of a show on wine glasses is a great idea. I’d also like to see your evaluation of the most popular wines at a given time.

  • Doc Dan

Good show GV. I havn’t had ANY of these grapes!! QOTD: Like to see more BRDX.

    Weird sells sometimes…Great show.
QOTD: Your show irocks. Few suggestions to think about:
    – Have some guests once a while (other wine experts, wine producers…), just to break the routine.
    – Once a week taste wines that viewer’s request. maybe have a way on this web site that people could enter their choices (rather than having to e-mail you). This could be from a preselected big list of WL stock which would make tallying results automatic..
    – Blind tasting…
    Cheers

good ol’ Chris actualy never set foot in what is now modern day U.S.A ! but he did kill Indians…or native cubans that is…do the research…out

  • QOTD: Gary, love the format as it is. Would like to see a show or two that takes a look at the not-so-looked-at American varietals from say upper New York, or the Midwest. There is a lot between our shores that goes unnoticed in the wine world. Chambourcin, vignoles, sevyal blanc, chardonel, etc… are grown in the Midwest where I live, but I am not so sure I want to lay out the dough on something I have no idea about. I am sure there are many others between the coasts, as well, that people would love to see.

I love the show, but as you know I am always several episodes and questions of the day behind the plan. Worst wine less for than $10? During my recent winery visit trip to the Santa Rita Hills everyone said to visit Melville where the least alcoholic beverage was a Viognier that weighted in at 15.3% – and they went up from there. Ouch – can someone hand me a bandaid for my tougue. Five or six wines for 10 bucks. Melville qualifies for the worst wines for less than 10 bones.

About the show – is the show about wine or is the show about the show? A delicate balance to strike, methinkns, but sometimes the show needs to be about the wine.

    Your buddy – ColoradoRick

As always, love the show, Gary. Interesting mix. QOD: I’d love to hear from a little of the background support. You know, the guys behind the scenes that you’d be lost without. Just a thought…..

  • Gary,

Don’t change anything. Why? Because what has made you so popular is your honesty and authenticity. If you tone it down, then you conforming and that’s never a good thing.

Be true to yourself and your fans will remain true to you…or at least I will… 🙂

QOTD: A short segment in each show about wine basics would be great for us neophytes.

Don’t mess with success, keep it real, and brutally honest. You’re the only one doing that right now and its addicting. Chris wasn’t the only one killing indians back then, was he?

    Hey Gary-
My Mom is visiting and watched your show with me. What she wants from you is less “sidetracking…just tell us about the wine.”
I like your stories – keep telling them. What I would like – a bit more about the soil type, the story behind the wine…or would that be too much?

  • 99% of watchers haven’t had a kadarka? Hard to believe. Maybe it’s an European thing, but kadarkas are quite common in Estonia.

What would I like the show to do? Hmm… How about answering fan mail on the show?

i tasted the 06 csm dry rose’ at the winery last month. i found a really fun spot-on watermelon jolly rancher note on the nose. great wine.
on an unrelated note: i had a glass of wine with one of the ‘three thieves’ this evening. apparently he lives in milwaukee. how about a ‘three thieves’ episode; its the only wine i’ll drink that comes in a bottle with a handle.

  • QOTD: change the locale: do one this week in your house, this one at your mom’s, another on the roof of wine library.

You had a couple of “old guys” on a couple months ago, I like the guests too; very fun, especially if they’ve made the wine!

I think I’m definitely in the minority on this one: I want an all-data episode. Similar to when you told us what estate grapes were. How many different varietals are there? What are the wine seasons? What is the history of wine? How is it made? I liked the French wineries, now do U.S. ones!

    Sorry, I’ll cut myself off.

    P.S. DON’T LOSE THE ENERGY!

  • Yay! SF glass!

QOTD: I don’t think you need to change anything in particular. The show is already flexible and variable enough that I don’t know what to expect, and I like to be kept guessing like that. However, I do have a request of a different sort: SCHEUREBE. Are people dismissing this varietal because of the nifty bottles? I’d love it if you tasted some on the show. And, in the middle of summer, the timing seems very appropriate.

btw, I wrote a review of the show on iTunes a week or two ago, but it never shows up when I look for it. Bummer. I thought it was sort of proud of it too. Anyway, maybe I’ll write another one sometime.

Yes, I’m within the 5% of the Zweigelt drinkers! How about a Blaufränkisch or a St. Laurent?

QOTD: Take it more serious, cut the spits out (like WS do ;). No… just kidding.

You’re still rocking the wine world hard G.!!

QOTD: Does WL sell any liquor? ONE show with a nice cognac, single malt, rhum, armagnac or something like that would be awesome I say… Plus, I know the forum is there for that, but it would be cool be have a more “interactive” comments section where you can personnally reply to some posters instead of just writing down your comment and hoping the person you answer to will read it the next day, you know what I mean… Anyhow, keep up the good work!

  • Don’t ever change

QOTD: I agree with Dan NYC about a temperature show, and Robin a glassware. I know you did a glassware show already, but I’d like it examined further. I only have a tiny amount of real estate in my cabinet for glasses (four). I picked them a while ago because they looked nice. They are on the small side, so I can’t slosh them around too much to get them to breath when first poured. Also they are shaped more like a funnel rather a full water balloon, I suspect they are for apertifs or digestifs. The mouth is wide with out much body to hold wine. I think this does not help in smelling the aroma. I normally have a very sensitive nose with food and everyday life. But I’m just not getting that enjoyment with wine in my glasses.

  • In the last issue of the Decanter magazine is there a top 100 power list of the wineworld.
    With RP at nr 1.
Do I think you will be in there within a couple of years ? Most def.

    Thanks

Gary, Don’t you dare change! What do you think has kept all of us original Vayniacs loyal in the first place? You aren’t afraid of the “system”, you’ll tell the truth about the wines even if you have a butt load sitting in your store and you are the real deal. Remember, you’re out to change the wine world, not have it change you! Keep on rockin’!!
