I happened upon a Sea Smoke botella 2005. Bought it! Wow!
No band-aid though. Lovely, lovely. Thanks. I like your enthusiasm.

    No more lurking here. =)

I’m having two bottles this weekend. A Grand Cru Vineyards 2004 Merlot and a 2003 Reserve Chardonnay from the Domaine Astruc Winery in France. No idea if I named those correctly; those are the first two bottles of wine I’ve ever bought. Should be fun!

QOTD: Did some reorganizing in the cellar yesterday and found some wines that perhaps I should have drank some time ago but we will see…

    Argyle Reserve Chardonnay 1994
    Argyle Nuthouse Chardonnay 1996
    Rochioli Chardonnay 1998

QOTD: I’m not a fan of Chardonnay, but my brother-in-law gave me a bottle of Ravenswood 2003 Sangiacomo Chardonnay which I had with a nice dinner out on Friday night. The wine was awesome!

QOTD: WELL…. everyone knows what I drank on Thursday… 😉
On Friday I had EOS Chardonnay while lying by the pool in Ojai. Saturday I tasted 7 wines at Old Creek Ranch winery, and then 3 more at Movino Wine Bar. Highlights include the Old Creek Chard, Menage a Trois Red and Incognito Red (masterfully manipulated grapes! totally over the top.)

Wow… when you write it all down like that, I seem like a total luuuuussssssssssssshhhhhhhhh! LOL

Nice show, can’t afford to taste it though

QOTD: branching as gary shows me new things. After my favorite red of all time, 1999 La Castellina Chianti Classico on Friday, tried the 2005 Don Olegario Albariño on Saturday: Fruity bouquet but tastes spicy like white pepper on apples. great wine

QOTD: It’s hot and humid here in the Tundra (aka Wisconsin), so I’m drinking Stanley Lambert’s “Pristine” Chardonnay (unoaked). It’s a wonderfully tart, bright and zingy glass of juice, and served chilled, helps to stave off the summer’s dog days.

Nice ep – Have been wondering if all the Sea Smoke hype is merited..

  • I wish I had that special bottle to open, but I am not guilty of holding and hoarding. This weekend, with many people around, whatever my guests want me to open. I have control over this of course since I bought all of the wines in the first place.

I’ve got no wine and stores that sell it in this state are required by law to be closed on Sunday. So I’m drinking orange juice.

  • Elliott: Right on! That’s my outlook as well – no special bottles, because special bottles are opened ASAP!

    Gary,
I finished off my Nebbiolo with some pasta last night. Today? Something from my wine box that will put me one grape closer to the Wine Century Club.

Going to Seneca Lake next week! Little Finger Lakes Sparkling Wine research!

I have visited Sea Smoke’s vineyards and winery, with Victor Gallegos, the GM. Despite the three names, the wines are not from separate sections of the estate vineyards, but rather the winemaker, Chris Curran, and staff select wines from lots, which eventually become the 3 selections, each being “Botella”-like, “Southing”-like and “Ten”-like, as they perceive them. Ten is always the most age-worthy, and often doesn’t show immediately like Botella does. Sea Smoke’s grape clusters are extremely small, and added water is metered out to the vines according to measurements taken in the field. Thus yield per vine is small, giving intensity to the wines.

    Nice episode…

QOTD: Tomorrow night, I’ll open a small bottle of Château d’Arche, Sauternes, 2002. I’m really looking forward to it.

By the way Gary, I’m still waiting for another tasting of Château d’Arche, because the one bottle you wanted to taste in a past episode (together with Yquem) had been corked !

    Gary,
    Your the MAN!
Please do a show with Portuguese Reds from the Douro region. Wine Library has a last amount of them but I really think people just know Douro for its’ ports.

    Keep drinking, David P

I’m not only a lurker, but I’m probably one of the worst. I’ve only been watching for… oh, about a year. I’ve shopped at the store, I’ve ordered online. Probably about time I show myself.

I’m pretty new to WLT (3 episodes) and how can I POSSIBLY resist such a passionate call to action! The more I watch, the more I laugh – thanks for making learning about wine so damn much fun! What can I say…I’m hooked!

  • Ladies and gentlemen, true Pinot Noir! Gary, would you e-mail me when this comes in stock so that I may buy? Thanks. QOTD: Nothing. Weekend with my kids, plus, we have a big Bordeaux tasting tomorrow (Monday). That should make me feel content.

Great episode Gary, thanks. I wish I could find some Sea Smoke back East just to give it a try. Question on the Botella however: Band-aid aroma could indicate Brettomyces – so I wonder if this wine will hold up or go too funky with aging.

QOTD: Had a 1997 Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio – dinner with in-laws and my folks with grilled stuffed veal chop – it killed and I wish I had more!

Are you flaking on us? I was looking forward to you naming some wines for us to taste as we watch, live or pod cast, etc.

    What’s the what?

Great episode! I’m on my second year of the list. I loved the 2004 Southing. I’ve drank the 2005 Botella. Both show a complexity I usually can’t find in an American Pinot.
