  • The Ravenswood single vineyard Zin are good indeed, and good values overall. Old Hill is perhaps the best or best known, but their Teldeschi Vnyd is awesome. Ravenswood for better or worse (or the same) is now owned by the mega corp Constellation but R’wood must have had a great pre-nup because their single vnyd zins are still among the best (and gazillions $$ less than Turley and the like) and they can evidently still make zins as they want to. That’s cool– visit the vineyards in your Constellation-financed Bell chopper and then jet off to wherever and still make it back for the Carbon Credit Gold Jock Strap Kyoto Summit, but then finish the evening with a nice Wagyu steak and Petrus

  • I love zins! I work at the same place Kristen does, in Wisconsin, where…

AOTD: I am a second year graduate student in theatre research, a part-time wine shop employee, a project assistant for the Arts Institute and a freelance theatre writer.

I used to live south of Paso in San Luis Obispo and could not get enough of the Zin Alley zinfandel (not to mention Grey Wolf, Norman and Wild Coyote). I’m inspired to drink more zin — we carry the Cigarzin, the Madrigal (mmm) and some Seghesio single vineyards. Delicious.

    Cheers!

  • Forgot– what do I do? Besides drink wine, I make a little wine, listen to classical music, and keep telling myself that I am going to learn French and Spanish. What pays the bills is looking at x-rays, I am radiologist.

Zin is awesome – I’ve always been a Big fan. In fact I’ve I get the Montelena every year.
QOTD: I’m retired from the Air Force and consult to the government on building space systems.
On the side I’m a partner in a winery in Virginia… and drink LOTS of wine and watch a little bit of you change the wine world.

  • Love the Zin’s GV. Ravenswood has always been a favorite.

QOTD: First, I’m a small winery start-up in Washington State, “Griffins Crossing Winery” where my wife and I have poured our hearts, souls and pocket book into producing wine we like to drink !!
Second, I’m a Boeing parts buyer that helped build the “Dream Lifter” which has been transporting sections of the new 787 around the world to the Everett, Wa final assembly plant. I had to give a plug to Boeing because without them I wouldn’t be able to live my passion in making the wine !!

GV-would love to see a tasting on Port wine (I know it’s a departure, but fall is coming on strong)

  • I’m the VP of the New Media Division for Penton Media. If you ever cover organic wines, we’d love to feature it on Delicious Living. When I’m not working or drinking wine, I go to the beach, watch football (Go Dolphins! Jets are going down this weekend), and mess up my apartment.

This evening quaffed a bottle of the difficult to get DeLoach 2005 Forgotten Vines Zinfandel (the French owners Boisset were so taken by this vintage they scooped up nearly all the limited cases for exclusive family use in France)and was once again reminded why I love this old vine zinfandel….filets from Molly Stones, fresh green beans from the garden and mashed potatoes with white truffle oil…it don’t get any better! Well the Ben and Jerry’s helped…

  • What up Chuck!! Loved the zin episode, and I also have a place in my heart for them. When it comes to drinking them I have no problem throwing back a little Buff-Bellied Zinfandel coming from the Central Coast in sunny CA. It’s go some Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouchet, and Primitive blended into it…solid effort…got 2-puffs too!! I’m in the industry, as a Hospitality Manager and Sommelier for a winery in located in San Martin. I totally dig drinking wine….it’s the coolest thing right now to work in this business….cool like Air Jordan’s when they came out….cool like Nintendo when it came….cool….like HDTV……it’s just plain out cool to drink wine!!! Love it!!! Hey…when you going to do a primitivo tasting?? It’s Zinfandel….some say….bring it…let’s see some thunder again…….Lost money on your jet’s again….damn spread!

  • Two of my faves in this episode. Still have a couple of Old Hill etched bottles from the early 1980’s kicking around….

QOTD – I’m an engineer, and consequently too boring to be of any interest. I do fly fish, tie flies, invest, listen to all types of music and play fantasy football….

Kudos on the Ellen gig. Keep it real V-man. That’s what sets you (& us) apart from the Fisch-Heads, Wine Lyers (have they ever rated anything under 90 pts???) and other ‘Legendary’ copycats pushing Porno Due cleavage-crushed grape juice….. :-)))

    Sincerely

I’m proud to no longer lurk. I’ve really enjoyed wine for some time, but you have changed the way I look at what wine is. No longer do I buy for the label. I love looking for the different taste nuggets in each wine. You have opened my eyes to the wine world.

QOTD: I am a marathoner. I have run 4 marathons so far with my best being Boston 2006, I was (300th place out of 20,000).

I tell everyone I know about the show. Thanks for making wine relevent!

Nice episode. I hope everything goes great on Ellen. Zins can often be overpowering so I am intrigued by the Chateau Montelena and the Ravenswood.

QOTD: So this would be, like, “Introduce Yourself” once again. 🙂
I am an engineer at NASA. I am a baseball nut, specifically, and a sports nut in general. And, of course, I am definitely a wine nut.
