Good episode! I’m not a big beer guy (maybe 2 a year!), but I may have
to go get a Pumpkin Ale later tonight.
UQOTD: I used to love a Haystack Black out of Oregon, about 10-12+ years ago.
Don’t know if they still make it.

Fun episode Gary. The pale green label always scared me away, shows what I know.

I liked the Nightline spot, it was good to see you on TV without dirt in your mouth.

This is THE episode I’ve been waiting for. I’m a huge beer drinker along with drinking wine. I think beer deserves the same amount of respect!

A lot of beer drinkers in the group. I am an amateur brewer myself and really enjoyed you mixing it up. Rogue beers kick ass! Their tasting house in SF is a guaranteed great time. CKCers are definitely down with getting great tasting fermented beverages at a low cost. On my budget, beer fits the bill quite nicely. Wine tends to be for special occasions.

I am so glad you did a beer episode. I drink way more beer than wine. You know my love for Old Style, but I certainly branch out. My favorite restaurant has 213 beers, and I try to get a different one on each visit. (Yia Yia’s Pizza in Lincoln Nebraska) Do more beer episodes!

Any chance of talking your beer friend into doing his own show, or podcast?

Different, but fun. It makes me want a beer and its only 8:45 am. I think I’ll wait a few hours 😉

  • This episode is FUN to the fullest. This is what I call Success, Gary. We’ve gone around the world a few times, tasting so many different wines, and now we can sit back and taste such exotic and fun beers. Again, thanks for the education. Now, taste some Goddarn wines this afternoon, will ya?

Good show, enjoyed the beer thoughts. I’d recommend checking out Rogue’s Morimoto Imperial Pilsner – great stuff.

So Eric doesn’t like beer, wine, or cheese and he works in a huge Liquor store?! hahahaha

That’s like a guy that doesn’t watch tv but works for NBC.

I should not watch these at work because all I can think of now is a huge glass of Sierra Nevada…

sigh, at least it is Friday.

Finally beer gets it’s dues. Hopefully this episode will discourage my wine lovin’ family from making fun of my red neck’esque love of beer.

Fun show, Gary. I never got into beer in a big way, but every now and then I get a taste of something that amazes me. Beer-food pairings could be very interesting (e.g., your suggestion of foie gras with one of the beers).

For those of us who have to watch our calories, why is it that beer has the reputation of being more fattening than wine? Wine must have at least twice the alcohol of beer. Is there more residual sugar in beer? Do people just tend to drink beer in larger quantities than they tend to drink wine? What’s the deal?

  • Take your spices, fruit flavored “seasonal” type beers…turn them sideways…and stick um straight up your candy ass!! (not really…stealing the Rock’s line ;-))

Fruit flavors, pumpkin, lemon, cloves + BEER = CRAP!! IT’S NOT BEER!!

Great episode. Love the Rogue and Sierra was my first introduction to pale ales. Come to Denver and attend the Great American Beer Festival. You won’t believe all the different styles of ale and beer that are up for tasting. This year I believe it is about 1700 different beers.

The Schlenkerla is easily accessible for me … I only have to walk a couple of meters to the next store, where I can buy pretty much any quantity of the Rauchbier. Nice to see something on the show that is actually much more within my reach than the usual products. By the way, you guys mispronounced the name of the beer, the way you said it means “intoxication-beer” as opposite to “smoke-beer” … which is not so wrong after all 🙂

You think you know CHICO, California? Oh OH OHHNNOOOOOO! That’s my home town homies. Checkin’ in on the Esplanade, yeah, who knows about the Esplanade. You want good Mexican food? You can’t handle Ricardo’s on the Esplanaaaaade. 32nd Subs, Notre Dame elementary school, Chico State Halloween parties. You…guys….can’t…handle Chico. I must be honest though, I’m not a big fan of Sierra Nevada. Sure, it’s good and consistent, but c’mon there are so many other better beers. Fat Tire, White Shark, Alaskan Ale.
If you wanna know about Chico, California (which, by the way, you just can’t handle) I’ll let you know what’s up.

Excellent show, beer is good! You guys have to check out Hitachiko Brewing Co. in Japan. They make a beer out of rice, how crazy is that. That’s something else you guys can’t handle.

For a list of all things you can’t handle email me.
