Hey Gary, love the show. It’s nice to see you with some energy again. I’m been holding this off for a while because I didn’t want hurt your feelings but here goes.

The people at my local wine shops HATES ME because of you.
Because I come in asking for wines that taste like venison stuffed with Skittles and mushroom that’s been left in the basement for a couple of days.

But I bet they’ll watch you more if all their customers start to describe wine that way.

Keep up the great work. BTW, can you recommend a wine that tastes like venison stuffed with Skittles and mushroom that’s been left in the basement for a couple of days?

    Gary,

Been waiting for a long time to experience a CdP tasting at the Thunder Show again. The Pegau was worth waiting for. I agree with Brad Coelho that you don’t need to advocate for that one.

Gary – thank you so so much for the show. Pegau is absolutely my favorite wine in the whole universe… it was the reason why I fell in love with CdP and the Southern Rhone in general.

PASSING ALONG – I actually just sent the url to Laurence Feraud, the owner and winemaker of Pegau. I’m sure she’ll get a kick out of it. She’s absolutely the coolest and nicest winemaker in the Rhone (maybe in all of France)… very laid back / down to earth approach – totally in tune with the Vayniac Nation!

QOTD: Haven’t been too nice lately. Need to work on that…

PS: For those who are starting to flirt with CdP… the 13 grapes represent Jesus + the 12 apostles, a legacy from the days the Pope lived in Avignon (nearby in the Vaucluse, where the Catholic church had its HQ for 70 odd years) and hung out at his new castle (or “Chateauneuf”) in the Rhone region. Beaucastel is one of the few producers that uses all 13 grapes (and usually a lot more Mouvedre than anyone else). Sorry for all the info, but I get very excited with CdP. Thanks again.

  • Pape thunder! Love the Neufs, man. And good to see them (except for the Guigal) bring the bolts of meat, leather, and Rhone-berry goodness down on us.

QOTD? Promised mom I’d find her the Japan tour DVD of Korean heart-throb crooner Rain. Mom, who just turned 60, is getting all giddy and (shudder) hot and bothered over some dude younger than me. Yecht… but alas I gotta hook mom up. I guess this ain’t that nice if I don’t come through. It’s Amazon time.

    Gary –

Here’s the truth, I had a bad friggen’ day, I got home, sweating cause it’s so damn hot in October, angry, work sucked, etc…I took a deep breath, got on my computer, excited for a new episode, and you came through HUGE, like you always do. You made my day better buddy and I thank you for that. Great episode, I’m infatuated with the Chateauneuf-du-pape, you were pumped, I’m pumped, HI-FIVE!

    QOTD –

The last nice thing I did, was that I told the people in my life, I love them (that’s right all of em’)!

    Sensei,

Welcome back from Jets hell! Great episode!! Definatley brought the thunder today!

Love CDP and just picked up a couple bottles of the 05 Vieux Telegraph La Crau CDP’s for future consumption. Sounds like I will need to get a couple of the Domaine Pagau’s as well!

QOTD – wow, I sat and thought about this for awhile and can not come up with anything worth mentioning. I need to work on that!

Thanks for the great CdP show. I tried that ’03 Guigal several months ago, and your description brought back painful memories – mainly because I was trying to impress my friends with my snobbery, and they all hated the stuff! “Smells like poop” was one comment.

QOTD: I’ve resolved never to be a wine snob again. Also, I saved some drowning kittens.

  • Thank you Jeff from Cleveland.

Gary, I know you can’t ship wine to all states, but why can’t you ship merch to all states? I’d love to be able to buy some schwag!

Hey Gary! I am absolutely hooked on your show. I just discovered it and very much enjoy your candor and brazen wit; its so bloody refereshing when it comes to “wine”. Living in southwestern Ontario, I am suffering along with my fellow Canadians, from the LCBO monopoly that doesn’t have much on its shelves and its all seriously overpriced! The Guigal you taseted today is $50 here even though the US and Can. dollar is at par these days.

Do you get much business from your northern neighbours? I’d love to get my hands on the Pegau.

Have you done a show on Rhodaise wines? I had an absolutely fantastic Rhodaise in Loumarin this past summer and was freaked-out by the 4Euro price.

Anyway, I’m with you, especially now that I know you’re an Amarone fan, my favorite!

That last one sounded like some awesome wine. Next time we are in the market for a wine in that price range we’ll look for it.

QOTD: I arranged to get a beautiful old rocking chair that a neighbor was leaving (being moved out by her children) to a young pregnant women I know who can’t afford one.
