I'll be curious to see if you do use any viewer's intro's between this episode and the one where you settled on the intro you use now.

I’ll have to check out some of the split sized bottles we have at work- we usually have a few, but now with the holidays, we have more out on the floor. That’ll be something to try out.

QOTD: Ok GV…I like the occasional openers like today but I truly don’t think there is a problem with your opening…at last count you already have 40,000 viewers right? I know you want more, but if people can’t swallow your no-snobbery attitude, why should they continue to watch? That’s what WLTV is all about- breaking down wine sector snobbery and making it accessible to the everyman or woman. In essence, it’s “changing the wine world!” (I think I heard that quote somewhere).

QOTD: Don’t change the show, the energy is the main reason I watch it. Who wants to watch a boring wine show? NOT ME! I seen some on TV and I swear if I watched them at night I’d fall asleep faster to them than watching poker. DON’T LET GRUMPY OLD FARTS SCREW UP YOUR SHOW! You’ve gotten to where you are by being unique, screw damn warnings and intro clips, get into it! BANG! But if you really really must put some cute stuff or warnings, put them at the end. Most intro clips get turned into adverts as shows get more and more exposure, don’t be a sellout either. SNIFFY SNIFF!

First of all Gary… I fell in love with this show after the first 15 seconds. It was your introduction that caught to me to watch. Dont ever change!

I love the idea about making a 15 second disclosure video Though. Im already racking my brain with ideas.

I’m watching 24/7 as well, and I was super excited about Mayweather/De La Hoya after watching 24/7 and was sadly bored out of my mind. You think it will be any different? It’s sill Welterweight boxing.

Hey man, I think you’ve worked hard to get the show to what it is now with your signature swinging head intro the “changing the world” finish. Guess what, it works and it’s not boring at all. My advice is to Keep the show as is. The video intro maybe good for the Friday show (once per week is enough), most people watch the show for the wine experience and education, both of which you’ve been delivering nicely. Good show! Cheers.

FWIW, I like using Winelife Wine Preserver for days we don’t drink the whole bottle. I have been suprised how well it works – especially compared to those pump systems, etc. – a nice alternative if you can’t get the half bottle. We have left some bottles as long as a week while traveling & found the remains still to be very enjoyable. Does Wine Library sell thos product? Might be an interesting episode – same bottle – just opened, 1 day old, 2 days old, 3 days old & 7 days old – taste them blind & assign the days to the bottle – a good test of product for the Vayniacs

QOTD : Do what ever you like – that’s why people watch. If you get a good video, show it. If you don’t get a good video, stick with the standard intro, but whatever you do, be yourself. That’s the formula for success

Even tho we are “lurkers” and only comment ocassionally…..please don’t change the show!! If you start changing things to try and please everyone, you will be changing forever!! Tell anyone who doesn’t like the first 15 sec….TO TURN THE VOLUME DOWN or go into another room. Just give me all your knowledge about the wines, along with you dashing personality and I will continue to watch.

  • Gary,
I’m going to be brutely honest.Your inthusiasm is what brought me to watch your show.I found you to be “real” not a stuck up snob like alot of wine people are that i have ran into, especialy to new learners of wine.I found you not to be a yuppie,i believe that most of the watchers that e-mail you about the opening line are a little up tight and don’t see it for what is worth a man excited about wine and teaching others about wine to,it’s good to see people excited about something they love. After i read about you and found that your this like rich guy i was hoping that it wasn’t just a front to get people to watch your show. I don’t see that and hope that your not just a great actor. Love the show opening and your enthusiasm!!!

QOTD: Don’t change the intro! I’m more than happy to video up a warning, but to be fair, the intro is part of WLTV. Something from the Vaniacs before the start is great, but the people that want/NEED a warning are the same people that read Spectator and run to their nearest wine store to pick up this months 90 point wine. They’re the same people that won’t decide for themselves, the same people that won’t say “You know what Gary, I disagree with you, for ME, that wine tasted like poo in a glass” (and mean that in a bad way)

Not that I’m saying they should be excluded, everyone should come and enjoy WLTV, but if you need a warning…I don’t think you’re going to go out there and be adventurous and decide for yourself. I see them everyday, walking around IN the wine stores with Spectator or Parker or whomever they feel knows wine better than them. I want to pull them aside and shake them…but I don’t…

Ok enough of the rant. Having said all that, I’m going to make a vid with the city of Chicago as my backdrop for proper dramatics!

  • QOTD: Start with a toned down intro of what the theme of the day is; cut into a 12 second intro clips of you from the show, clip from Connan, clip from Ellen, clip eating dirt, in the wind, on the roof, in the vineyard; set to a “hip soundtrack; then roll into a “HELLO EVERYBODY…..”

I am disappointed with the 2000 La Cardonne. I was hoping to get some if you found it decent. I used to buy it in the early 90’s the 88 and 89 vintages which I found to be very good for my taste. Then the 91 -93 vintages were awful – as were many French wines during that period, but I haven’t seen La Cardonne improve much since then. So I have been hesitant to invest any more in it. I’ll stay away.
QOTD: Don’t change your stripes unless your are looking for a change for change sake.

  • QOTD: You be what you be – that be you! Don’t change a thing from your intro! That is who you are and that’s what I expect and I like that enthusiasm. The people who don’t like it – would they like it if someone told them to change the way they said “hello” on the phone? Tell them to mind their own business!!! They don’t know anything!!! Don’t they have anything better to do than to try and make you into something you aren’t? Tell them to go work on their kids instead and give psychologists and counselors some more business!!! Seriously, I say leave it as is unless YOU decide to change it. Those dweebs know not what they speak. If it were up to them, Pat Paulsen would have played the part of Indiana Jones.

QOTD – Don’t do anything differently to begin the show. Since you think wine should be fun, why can’t the into to your show be that way?

I am relatively new to your show (one month or so). Absolutely love it. Been enjoying wine for a over a decade now and kind of took your ‘wine-dividualism’ approach even before watching the show – but boy does your show pin point this concept. Brilliant endeavor and well executed- and I wish you (and us) the best of luck with changing the wine world…

QOTD: Frankly, I could not care less about the intro. I like it as is, but that’s not the point. Point is that the show (including the intro) is you, and YOU should not change. Your show is quite perfect as it is. My two cents – I did notice that the show tended to get longer and longer recently (closer to 25-27 minutes now compared with some archived shows I watched – around the 15 minute mark) – which is fine, your little anecdotes and stories are fun and interesting, and again, makes the show yours, but life is about hitting the right balance, and so, for your show I would stay focused more on the … well … wine (and teach us more about the different grapes, wine making, great vintages for different areas/growers, etc.)

QOTD. I like the Vay-ner-chuk intro. Maybe it’s an acquired taste, but then so is wine, isn’t it? (Well, maybe alcohol in general.)

    GV and camp,

It appears as though my previous comment may be redacted due to poor phrasing on my part. I wish to clarify my intentions as apologize for any offense.

My point was that GV has a great thing going and I truly believe the community would readily accept any change Gary wanted to make. The WLTV community is growing and that is largely due to the word-of-mouth of fans. You can’t get better advertising than that. One of the best things about the show is Gary’s honesty and purity.

What I really want is for Gary to trust his own opinion, to not make changes to the show because someone else said he should. It’s great to try new things, but do it because you want to; not because someone else said so. Does any of this sound familiar? The palette evolves, but trust your palette; it hasn’t let you down so far…

Thanks to Gary and the WLTV crew. Speaking of which…I’d like to see more crew appearances on the show. I want to see Mott more…and the rest of the crew.

Again my apologies for any offense. It was not intended.

    Jason S
