I'll be curious to see if you do use any viewer's intro's between this episode and the one where you settled on the intro you use now.

QOTD: My biggest problem with the opening is that the sound volume is almost twice that of the rest of the show.

I’m glad you liked the Chehalem…it is one of my favorite Oregon Pinot Noirs.

  • QOTD: I prefer the show way it is. The only type of “intro” I would recommend is to just use the WLTV logo, then get into your normal GV routine. Keep up the great work, and stay true to yourself.

Hey WINE SNOBS – don’t like the intro then go back to the Wine Spectator where you have to pay for everything you want to see except for the Videos and i’m sure that will not last long either. Don’t change a thing Gary. Love the show just the way it is. The Winefather

Gary, Dude, if they are asking you to act like another wine snob – forget it. The exuberance is great to me. I know where you’re coming from, even down to the Jets obsession.

However, I do think having viewers pitch-in intros would be funny as heck and would probably take the heat off you. Viewers have an appreciation and feel like they are part of the posse.

  • QOTD: First off, your intro is why I started watching the show. Don’t change it. It has intense energy that carries through the rest of the show, and why I started watching (and continue to watch). There are many other wine shows that are toned down, and I don’t watch those. Knowledge of wine can be found anywhere. This show makes wine fun. Basically, you could make a podcast about anything, and I would watch it. I like wine, and that’s what brought me here initially, but it’s you, Gary, that keeps me watching. Your intro is the essence of the show, and of you. I have watched some of your older episodes where the intro is much more toned down, and I end up turning them off, and look for newer ones. Those who are asking to tone it down need to lighten up.

If it ain’t broke………Gary, you’re good enough, you’re smart enough (with the possible exception of your painful pronunciations but that’s what makes you, You) and doggone it people like you. The show’s great, that’s why people gravitated to it in the first place.

Please don’t change the intro! For starters, I don’t particularly WANT to see submissions from other people; I watch the show for you. And secondly, if you change things up then you’re just changing for the sake of wine snobs who can’t lighten up and have a good time. Some people just have way too much time on their hands and look for things to complain about. Let’s have a good time!

QOTD: Your intro is great, GV! Don’t change a thing. The energy and sense of fun you bring to the show (and to wine) is why people love the show.

  • Hey Gary,

Long time lurker here but I’m coming out of the dark to answer you.

I have to admit that when I first watched your show I couldn’t stand it. After I sat down and watched it anyways (you are always entertaining, that’s a fact) I was just so drawn in by your comments on wine, descriptions, and knowledge that I became a true Vaniac. I think the reason I was turned off at first was because of the intro because fairly often it takes quite awhile (8 minutes I think in this episode) before you start talking about the wine. That’s not to say you shouldn’t talk about the Jets and everything else, it keeps things interesting, but sometimes I feel you get off focus and I lose interest with exceptionally long introductions. I think you should continue the “hello everybody!!!…” intro but you should focus on keeping it concise and to the point and THEN jump into everything else.

Besides that, love your show, keep it up!
    Jeff

  • When you had video intros, you always did you own intro right after anyway. Don’t know why having video intros would be any different this time. Plus with Viddler, it’s much easier to skip an intro once the video loads. So if you get good ones, just do what you did last time there was a string of submitted intros.

Don’t change the intro, tell all the uptight people to kiss off. Just kidding… Cutting edge entertainment is always criticized.

  • Gary, I agree. Don’t change the intro. It’s great the way it is. If you want to warn new viewers to sit through the initial shock of seeing you (GV bottle shock!), maybe put a written disclaimer near the video somewhere on the page. 🙂 And the Vayniacs can help you write that, as a contest.

    Gary,

No need to change the beginning, I love it, it gets me excited to watch WLTV. Don’t change for the few people that make some miniscual (sp?) complaint for an amazing show. Get over it, hold on strong GV.

  • I like the intro…sets the tone for the show…however, I did send a 15 sec warning bumper in for giggles!

Forget half bottles…I drink the whole thing whether it be during the weekend or the week…I’m no lightweight!

While I do love your energetic intro, maybe once in a while a Vaniac or Mott could do a short intro just to mix it up. Keep up the great work!

Hey Gary…. great show, once again. You did mention something that really caught my attention. You said that for Cyber Monday next year you may think about shipping to Canada as a special. On behave of all vayniacs in Canada I would just like to say… PLEASE do this and before a full years time. It is very difficult to get a good selection of wine in Canada, especially in Newfoundland which is where I am from. I loved your idea of the Thanksgiving gift boxset but was very disappointed when I found out that it was not available in Canada. If you could open your shipping up to Canada on specials throughout the year, or all year long (that would be even better), I’m sure you would make alot of Canadians very happy.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
