What a great episode! I think the specifics about the region is so interesting…I just might have to order the wine just for the rock

    qotd:

I collect antique decanters. I have about 20, glass, silver and glass etc from France, Italy and England. It’s great having friends over and decanting everything we are having that night in all the various sized and shaped decanters. Kinda like a mad hatters tea party but with wine.

How neat! I can tell Jeffrey has been watching the Thunder show.

QOTD: Absolutely, I agree that it’s important to decant red wine. The tannins soften and the beautiful aromas sort of appear out of nowhere. This happened recently with a wine that I thought was horrible out of the bottle but improved so much just sitting in my glass, er, cos I thought it was awful. After a while *chocolate* started to emanate from the glass!
I bought a decanter recently but realize now that it’s really some sort of serving showpiece thing :-). Need to go out and buy a proper wide-bottomed decanter.

awesome guest and i have enjoyed davies wines before. im loving your enthusiasm and the fact that you are mixing it up heading into the new year.

qotd: after episode 18 i tried decanting a wine and i have been decanting ALOT of wines since- mostly big reds and young rieslings.

  • Shane

QOTD: I do, so stop yelling at me.

    The tranq thing is funny.

  • Scott F

QOTD: I have started to decant wines that at first taste a little tight, and they really open up if you do. I have probably decanted the last 3 or 4 bottles and it really does make a difference.

Great show. Wish i could afford a trip to France to experience the region for myself.

    Nice G-Man, nice.

QOTD: Oh I decant. i’ve even been known to decant a white wine now and then, ooh novel concept yeah. Ofcourse its better that way, when one has more of that oh so precious commodity…time.

  • Dominus

Now THAT was a great show! Mr. Davies showed an intrinsic knowledge of Bordeaux and wines in general. Kudos to you both.

QOTD: How I decant my reds is by pouring a glass and putting it in the fridge for 10 mins or so for every glass during the week. If I’m having guests, then I decant for an hour or so. Whites, almost never.

    Cheers!

qotd: i always decant reds but never with whites

i agree with mr davies on the importance of serving temp. i prefer 60+ for reds and 50+ for whites.

QOTD: Yeah…OK…so I don’t have a good answer why I don’t decant more. That being said this was an amazing episode. This type of show is exactly what we need more of (I love the everyday show too, don’t get me wrong). The education is what is great about WLTV. Thanks GV for bringing Mr. Davies on.

  • I always decant red wine, minimum one hour, average two hours, sometimes much longer.

  • QOTD: I actually decanted my bordeaux of the day before I sat down to watch WLTV tonight!

If global warming is making those PV grapes better, I say…let’s heat it up!

totally dig this episode. even though i’m not a wine nerd i can appreciate a master taster. very cool. only problem with decanting…can’t find them anywhere. maybe i just need to try harder.

  • Tim Vining

I am new to wine and do not decant, primarily because I have not seen a decantor that is affordable. Hopefully, Santa Clause will bring me one! As I continue tasting and drinking more and more wines and learning about wine, not decanting will no longer be an option.

  • Ok Gary you have done it once again, Jeffery Davies was great and I hope that you where not that hyped over him being there on the show cause when I saw that you had the Chateau Bellevue 2002 on the show I was like:DDDDD cause that is one of the few Bordeaux that I have in my shop witch are not like gazzilling price(tho expensive wines are cheep here). Now I can sell this vintage with confidence:)

QOTD: Well, I usually always decant wines, using 2 glasses to see if I want to decant the whole bottle(witch is like 90% of the time)

I don’t decant for a really simple reason. Just the two of us and my wife doesn’t drink wine. So if I decant a bottle, what do I do with all that’s left over after my glass with dinner?

  • JordanW

    QOTD: Spontaneity

(I do decant if I have any forethought)

    Canada Crew!

Gary, I figure that about 35 more visits from JD and you might just learn to pronounce french wine names ;). But that would take a lot of laughs out of it for me. QOTD: If there’s anyone else around to help you finish the bottle, there is NO reason that you should not decant.
