Really, really enjoy those guest shows. JD was a pleasure. QOTD: depending on the wine, I do decant, but typically I open a bottle between 12 and 2 in the afternoon and let it breathe for 4-6 hours. Often, I will start sampling small quantities, then, after about 2-3 hours to see how it is opening.

  • DO a show on decanters!(don’t drink and type)

    A GREAT ! GREAT ! SHOW
    Thank you Jeffrey & Gary.

Decanting is all it’s was hyped up to be.
Everyone should do it when possible, no excuses on the weekends…….

Thanks again for a terrific show.

I decant everything, including my pee. I’d recommend setting aside a decanter soley for this purpose. Wine is like the blood of grapes. Where is the free bottle of wine today? I just love it. Best decant for me was Tablas Creek, really stripped the wine naked, more naked.

QOTD I need to buy a decanter! It’s not enough to let a wine breath even in the glass. Excellent episode!

decant everything? even whites? i know you’re a fan of the room temp, but wouldn’t that warm up a white too much (unless you put the decanter back in the fridge)?
    great show, gv and jeff

Wondering if it’s worth decanting a wine if my decanter has a hole in it and I’d have to use chewing gum to stop up the hole or if the gum would affect the wine, or with some would a cinnamon gum be better and if it would taste better.

    Hey Mott,

Hey told you twice to link up episode 18. Whats up with that.

    Merry Christmas

    Great show today.
QOTD- I decant about 50 percent of what I drink at home. I think I will start decanting more instead of being lazy and just letting the bottle breathe.

  • Withnail

    Great.

Q(?)OTD: I need to get a new decanter.

Great episode Gary. Loved the guest, and the whole idea behind the show today. I must admit that it takes some planning to be able to decant the wines we drink, but we try to as much as possible. Hard to do all the time when you are not sure what you are eating that night or if you are opening a bottle that night. Great job.

  • Brandon T.

Gary, wondering if you could tape a porno with Jeffrey where you squash Petit Verdot all over ur bum? Then decant it?

JD, I’m all about the ~62 wine! Ever since my first serious wine tasting where the wine was served at such a temp I have been all about it. Good call, I always decant.

  • I think a decanting episode is in order. The first episode showed rightfully that decanting was a useful thing to do, but as someone new to wine(I just turned 21 in aug) I just don’t have experience to reason out the do’s and don’ts. I’m aware that certain more “fragile” wines can really be wrecked by even a little bit of decanting while you can lay on heavier wines for hours on end and experience benefits. Everyone has opinions on the subject in general, but it would be nice to know from the “decanter believer” perspective which kinds of wines you should/can freely decant and which ones you need to be careful with/should not.

So much wine……so little time. I “pop & pour”, and my decanter currently serves as a holder for the fresh cut flowers. But…..I will give it a try.

Barack Obama is the only candidate for who advocates the universal decant. Clinton has been a consistent flip flopper on this issue, and it’s a damn shame. Also wondering if Jesus Christ decanted either the water or the wine, or did he not have to cause of his magical powers?

    Hi Gary,

I enjoy your show a lot. I have been watching for a long time and will continue. But when you get guests like Jeff Davis who really know their shit and can articulate it–you should let them talk more and not interrupt them so much. We listen to you all the time–it is great for us to hear someone else articulate taste profiles using a different perspective than yours. You’re great but so is diversity.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Best guest visitor show I’ve seen…kudos man. I was fascinated with what Jeffrey had to share about Bordeaux and the different areas/vineyeards.

QOTD: I always decant when I have people round for dinner. The problem I have is that I usually pop open 3-4 bottles and only have 1 decanter so I tend to decant the best (what I precieved to be the best one) for several hours (usually at least 3). Might have to go and get another decanter now !! Interesting comment about serving the wine slightly cooler .. I have done it a couple of times and actually found I enjoyed it … didnt think anything of it then, got to try it again.

Gary – Fabulous episode! I was absolutely intrigued by your guest and his confirmation of your tasting impressions. This was a true learning show. Do more of them. This is what the Vayniacs really want.

Merry Christmas good buddy. And thanks for making my Christmas more enjoyable.

QOTD: I do decant my $20 plus bottles, but does it make sense to decant the daily wines too?
