Wow! I don’t know how you handled that. I would have been a complete idiot around someone with that much knowledge and coolness about wine…..especially French wine which j’adore. I will seek out the Legras rose as well as some of the ’04 Bordeaux. Thanks again for bringing the thunder to this otherwise ordinary Wednesday.

QOTD: Anything worth decanting, I decant!

Gary you keep raising the bar. awesome episode, I think I’m trying all 4 of these. I think you’re onto something with PV. i’m a little curious about the Hungarian Oak Monster. and oak/makeup, am i having deja vu, didnt you make that analogy yesterday? you’re also onto something about mindset, could be QOTD potential, I’m particularly fond of the 03 Jordan cab and I’m convinced it has everything to do with the girl I was with when I drank it.

qotd – no excuse, since I watched episode 18 I decant everything, I drank a 99 bordeaux today after 4 hours of decanting, and tried it when I first opened it, and the difference is unbelievable.

  • Great show! I learned a lot from Mr. Davies.

QOTD: I am a totally new to wine and I always decant my red wines because of what I learned here.

if Gary Vaynerchuk were a poodle he’d be a grand wine drinker and I believe his dog hair would be soft!

Amazing show. I guess I’m one of those “wine nerds,” (more aptly, a wannabe wine nerd) because I’ve been secretly wishing for more information behind the wines, and this episode definitely delivers. I’ll be watching this one again and again.

Why don’t I decant? Because it is really weird to bring a decanter to a party. Plus, every time I do people pound it like CKC made sangria.

  • Good, solid show Gary 😉

Man, you are raising the level of the show.. damn, who will be your next guest? RP? Suckling? Gaja?

QOTD: There is non. I’ve even decanted the German Chardonnay from Sander yesterday eveninig.

  • Awesome show goes … Gary having Jeff on board really took things to the next level. I was really impressed with his knowledge and smoldering passion.

QOTD: I do 98% of the time and I’ve got a huge vase size decanter in which to work the magic!

QOTD: In fact I think I will. I decant but not as often as I should with all of the young potent red wine I consume. Here is a wild thing to try, try decanting a nice white burgundy. You would think no no no with whites but seriously some of these wines are better the next day. It is crazy stuff. Gotta love the Cote D’or

    Wow… that was a Great show….!!! 🙂

I love to decant to, for as long as possible, usually around 30min to 1 hour.
When my husband is in a hurry for dinner, we sometimes have to do the pop&pour.

Awesome show. I love JD wines. If I see his name on the bottle I usually feel safe in making a solid purchase. Keep the great guests coming.

What a great episode. Thank you, Gary, for bringing in Jeffrey.

QOTD: Vayniacs need to know that they don’t have to have a fancy Riedel decanter to decant wine. In a pinch I’ve used a Pyrex quart-size glass pitcher and it worked great.

Nice show, love the guests. QotD: I do not decant every bottle of wine I drink but I will probably start… I’ve found it lessens the oak flavors I don’t care for a bit, and smooths out the wine as a whole.

    Great show.

    My question of the day.

Once wine has been decanted, will pouring it back in the bottle reverse the decanting step ?

  • Grasshopper

Salvatore – no it will not. Once the air has come into contact with the wine the process begins. Many people pour back into bottle and take to restaruants and pay a corkage fee.

Excellent guest. Really enjoyed Jeffrey´s story and all the background information he provided on the wines and vineyards. Good stuff.

Only complaint would be the volume. Ever think about using mics? Maybe for guests at least. Most people don´t project as much as GV.

QOTD: I just moved (well, 6 months ago..) and don´t own a decanter. I don´t own anything! But I´m planning on getting one for my husband as a x-mas gift.

  • FANTASTIC show. Thanks Jeffrey and Gary – the ‘team’ approach makes for a great show…

I decant about 50% of the time…for me, I taste it first, and it all depends on how that goes…regardless of price – sometimes a $10 wine really shows its stuff after an hour or 2, for me.

QOTD: I have been decanting for about 8 months now … it does indeed make a difference!

awsome show. JD is the man.
I thought GV stepped in way too much. Let him finish a thought and let us listen.

What a rockin episode! Way to take it to the next level…but not snobby at all!!!! Watched it twice just to make sure I didn’t miss anything!! Thanks GV so much for having Jeffery on and hope that he makes many appearances!! Love the PV grape…nothing tastes better!!

QOTD: I have decanted many Italian wines and have noticed a completely different taste, aroma and experience!! Never thought to do it to French wines or any others for that fact! I pop and pour alot but now I want to decant and drink!!

Darold: I would recommend buy the red wine glasses. Its easier to open up the wine with a larger bowl…Its worked for me!

  • Hank

Jeff was a great guest, really fit well with the flow of the show. Thought he contributed a lot without feeling formulaic or talking with the typical and overused prose we’re all so used to hearing. Thanks Jeff!

We decant about half of the time. Especially true if we expect there to be elements, like it being particularly tannic, that would benefit from some air-time.
