Great show, and good question. I have been thinking about getting a decanter for a while now, provided I can find the space to store it, but I have been letting the bottles breathe for a few hours lately and that has definitely softened the wines I’ve been drinking. Of course, by the end of the evening, I find that everything is better, more complex, and easier to dissect, and all that. Maybe that’s because by the end of the evening (in addition to the bottles being open for even longer) I’m more relaxed and less inhibited about what I think I smell/taste. 🙂

QOTD. We almost always decant our red wines. Sometimes only a few minutes before dinner, but they almost always get poured into a decanter.

Quite possibly the greatest WLTV episode, Jeff Davis wines have been a sure thing for as long as I’ve been a wine drinker and had a big influence on my palate. Those Languedoc wines of his years ago blew away any competition for a modest price. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Gary and Jeff need to do this again.QOTD: Decanting is a neccessity for many wines especially if it’s Bordeaux.

My question to Jeffrey and you – would you decant a “regular” bottle of wine? Like a Greg Norman Cab or a Raven Wood Merlot??? (Not that you will answer the question – but I have to be a wisen himer too)

Q: I always try to decant or at least pour a glass and let it sit. Makes a huge difference.

I try to decant the majority of my red wines. Last night I drank the valpolicella that was on the show recently-decanted for 3 hrs-very good
