Have not had this wine, Sbragia Chard for sure and reds. Have had some pretty good California Sau Blancs recently. http://www.winelx.com

  • Gary — you gotta try Hagafen’s Napa Valley Sauv Blanc (Rogov 91). As citrusy (but not just limes/grapefruit) as the Allan Scott, but so much more. And it’s $18, kosher, AND mevushal to boot.

    I wish I had more.

Give you credit for faithful search of good California SB. I feel the same way about Beaujolais and dessert wines but will never say never. I like surprises.
QOTD: Gotta ref a soccer (the real football) tournament in Tucson.

QOTD: Hanging with my Roc Girlz.
Football pick: LSU over Ohio State

Two more alternatives to pouring wine down the drain: sangria and cooking.

That couch looks very comfy (not crazy about the color) – what company is it?

Gary, great to know that your family started with little money and grew to run a multi million dollar company! It’s sure inspiring to hear such stories.
    QOTD: Pit, SD, Tampa, Sea
Driving over 90 miles from northwest suburb of Philly to Springfield to pick up 16 bottles of wine i haven’t tried before…damn these liquor law that won’t allow me to have it ship to my place….my parents are coming over from harrisburgh cause my little bro in 9th grade is presenting his robotics project at Drexel (he might be even smarter than me….damn….).

  • WeisGuy

Bad call on the NY/TB game, Gary. BUCS all the way (sorry, Mott)! I like the rest of your picks though: SD over TEN, JAC over PIT, and WASH over SEA.

Cooking a Ligurian Seafood Soup. To your earlier question about New Year’s resolutions…I’ve already started trying to do more cooking and am enjoying diversity of wines even more that way…while prepping/cooking and then with the meal.

Picks, hmmm. Relo’d from Cape Cod to Seattle. Could be an interesting Bowl but don’t think the odds are too good for one of the teams…

A proper post-caucus unwinding bottle, because by the time I got around to it, the food and the beer were gone gone gone.

I’ve had a SB masquerading as a chardonnay before, I think it was Chalone or Montelena, I forget which. Still liked it better than the last oak n’ alcohol bomb masquerading as an aperitif that I was subjected to at Xmas …

Oh, and Hawks, Jags, Bucs, Chargers.

I just knew before turning on my MacBook that you were going to be couching it today. It feels good even here.

I completely understand your rant about Chard wanna-be SBs. I also agree with you–up until the point where you said cantaloupe with ice cream and a whiff of vanilla. I do actually like the Chardonnay-ness of some SBs–not all the time and not if it’s overpowering. I look at the Chard masquerade more like a “meritage” than a wine not being true to its essence. Granted, it’s not a blend of two grapes, such as a true meritage, but I close my wine’s eye for a few minutes and role with it.

QOTD: Jax, G-men, L-bolts, and Fish.

Glad you got some couch time in. Its been a while. The weekend is packed with work, which sucks, but I will hopefully get a bottle of wine squeezed in somewhere.

QOTD: Seahawks and Jags cause I hate the Steelers (bengals fan) and my brother in law works for the Seahawks. I could care less about the other games. (disgruntled bengals fan)

Giants over Bucks, Steelers over Jags, Chargers over Titans, Redskins over Seahawks
We are chillin’ in Indy (GO COLTS) this weekend with football, homemade Chicken Tortilla soup and a Freemark Abbey Cab 2000…very floral! And maybe I can talk Eric into a day at the IMA (art museum).

Gary, as a Californian, I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for a Sauvignon Blanc that’s true to the grape. I’d guess it’s more likely to come from Sonoma than Napa. I’ll give you a holler if I find one I think you’ll like.

Good job on answering the questions,

QOTD: I have a date in S.F. We’ll be walking around (probably in the rain) and taking pictures like tourists, helping her learn how to use her camera. She’s a Charger’s fan, though, so we have to make sure she’s back in time to watch the game.

  • Sorry – I am not a football fan, even though I once lived next door to Joe Namath’s cousin, and kissed her once.

    Tennis rules. Federer rules.
