You’re like Letterman not being able to stop the “Top Ten List” with your “Sniffy Sniff” – you’ve created a monster! You have a public to serve! Etc.

QOTD: July 2007, I believe it was #276.

qod: about one year, or more, but have seen you a couple times near the beginning.

Gary, I personally have no reference for whether or not pinot noir is more popular after sideways, so I’ll take your word for it. however, it is my opinion that pinot noir goes better with food-that-is-not-steak. Much more so than, say the other favorite, Cabernet sauvignon, which really ONLY goes well with steak and meaty dishes. As someone who eats red meat once a week or less, I buy more pinot than cab, based on the food pairing options.

And as for ‘sniffy sniff’…I got up and did a dance when you announced its demise. Your’e such a tease! Get rid of it already!!!

Good episode .I’ve never been a big fan of pinot but have had a few really nice ones and a few really bad ones. It seems to hit or miss with pinot’s do you find this too.Qotd I started watching around episode 90, I’ve been around for all three century marks and will be for many more.I lurked for a good long time, then didn’t miss a single Qotd for about 7 months,Recently I’ve missed a few days comments but have always watched every episode, sometimes I’ll watch four or five in a row to catch up. It’s been great, invaluable wine knowledge and fun .You’ve changed my wine world . Thanks Gary and WLTV crew.

  • QOTD: January 2007 exactly 1 year. OK how about giving “sniffy-sniff” a 1 week vacation. Bet you can’t even if you try. You’ll slip, no doubt about it.

  • Mike Fagan

    Gary
I just watched the last show. A question . . . don’t you find that the “big-arse glass” strips lesser pinot of character. I’d love you to re-taste with the standard Riedel pinot glass. Thanks for the show.

  • QOTD: I can’t remember what my first episode was… but it was the autumn of 2006, I believe…. or maybe the winter….
It doesn’t matter now, ’cause Im totally changing the wine world. 🙂 with a little bit of you…

GV – No need to listen to those few critics, the “Sniffy Sniff” is so 2007.

QOTD – Somewhere around epidsode 15. It wasn’t too exciting then, and would only tune in once in a blue moon. I became hooked around episode 100 once you found your voice. Thank you!

Still waiting for my wristband, sc

If I dug around in my gmail, I probably still have the email from Gary tipping us off about the first episode.

Pity I can’t join you on the 29th, that’s coming right up on our big charity wine auction fundraiser thang, and I can’t get away. But I’ll be in good company.

Nice episode and it couldn’t have come at a better time- today I was reading all about Burgundian winemakers in Jonathan Nossiter’s new book, Le goût et le pouvoir. (For the record, Nossiter, who directed Mondovino, is out and out against Parker and other wine critics that have dictated the “new rules” in the wine world).

QOTD: Been watching since July ’07, after I read that article in Time. However, I didn’t know that there were shows every weekday cause I got them through iTunes. Thus, I had a lot of catching up to do! And now I am thoroughly addicted.

    QOTD: #345 I think.

I have a hard time with CA pinots. I rather prefer pinots from Oregon or France. That’s just my palate:)

  • Great show Gary! Unlike my few prejudices (whites, sweet wines, merlot) which I am earnestly trying to work past (I chant “Chateau Petrus is Merlot” like a mantra), I am downright AFRAID to get into Pinot and Burgundy in particular. Allen Meadows describes Pinot as the most “transparent” grape of all, in terms of terroir, and in one episode of WLTV you mentioned that the only way to learn about Burgundy is to read a lot and taste a lot.

I’m afraid I will fall into a black hole of Burg-addiction and emerge a penniless alcoholic.

QOTD: I had “the bottle” on August 26, 2007. Sometime in September, I was scouring the internet for info/interviews with Robert Parker, and your episode “Robert Parker Rated Wines” came up on Youtube. I watched a little, wondered who in the world you were. Thought you were a little obnoxious, and moved on. About a week later, I actually watched the whole episode. Then I reluctantly watched another, then I eagerly watched another. I think I needed a better source of general wine knowledge because my bone-headed strategy of buying on Parker Scores was burning me big-time. So here I am, over 300 episodes later. I have a confession to make: I fall asleep to old WLTV episodes.

    You rock, Gary!

I am glad sniffy-sniff is here to stay, although you never explained your reason for even considering retiring it, I would be curious to know.

QOTD: About a week before you were on Conan O’Brien I saw this show on iTunes. I was a little taken back at first, but I could not stop watching. Like the highlight reel of the old man getting hit in the stomach with a cannon ball. I was an instant Vayniac, my wife can attest to how excited I was that you were going to be on Conan.

Very nice episode Gary. And that’s from a Pinot Noir challenged Vayniac!

    QOTD- From the beginning.Cheers!

  • Glenn

Love Pinot Noir but have only found one Cali winery that produces consistently good pinots in my price range and that winery is J.

QOTD: Episode 325 I believe. Sometimes it gets muddled as I watch the back episodes as time permits.
