QTOD: my story makes me cry inside, haha.

i was a senior in college in ’05-’06 and was reading the effusive descriptions of the 2005 Bordeaux and i told my family, cousins, anyone who would listen to me. BUY BUY BUY! once in a lifetime, etc.

i knew about 3% of the total, and practical wine info i know now so everyone was like, ‘eh’.. i told them to buy cases, let’s do this as an investment, and a wonderful time capsule..

now i’m sitting here with nada, zilp, zero, zilch.
sad. sad but with 2 bottles of the Les Secrets De Cardinale..

Still good value to be had. Check out this months Decanter Magazine. Crus Bourgeois are the way to go for good 2005 values.

Funny, I finally made it to Bordeax in 2005 and it was an excellent sexual trip with buckets of ripe grapes, mainly petit verdot and merlot, lots of Dionysos slathering and reciting of poems with non-rhythmic gestures of funny wildness. Would love to see gary’s bum splattered with cabernet jam by a pretty girl while overwhelming jubilation and chanting?

2005…. At 50, It may almost be too late to buy and store some of the great stuff. I did though, buy a few cases of the 2000 and have everything from $20 to $400 bottles that I am hanging onto. I guess I should at least get a few to drink in the next 5-7.

See ya tomorrow to hear my name.

  • Dr T from N. Carolina

2005 Bordeaux? LOL Just 4 bottles of Merlot-blends and one Cab-based, all released months ago, so nothing special.

QOTD: I have no 2005 Bordeaux story, if I see a bottle and I have the money for it I definitely will pick it up, but alas my meager income and college requirements will inhibit my purchasing power of such quality wine. So serve up that California Cabernet because the 05 Bordeaux will be the one that got away.

    Great Show!!!

Cant wait for tomorrows show. Ive been on since about episode 40, so the two year mark for the show is awesome and im glad to see it still moving strong.

QOTD: I actually have purchased a few bottles of the ’05 vintage…more specifically bottles from Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Gruard Larose. The problem is the price for the ’05 has skyrocketed and makes alot of other chateaux that I usually drink from a little out of my price range. Im dying to find some good values from Pomerol in this vintage, but as of now…..nothing.

I haven’t been very much into 2005 Bordeaux, and I’m having regrets as I taste some of the little ones and see how good even they are. Alas.

  • Christopher J

Bought and already drank many 2005 Bordeaux wines. I am glad that I had the opportunity to try many before the price went up.
